Yup. We ARE part of the Church. We are it’s body, it’s limbs. And while we did not do the crime, we are part of the body that did.

Than why are people associating most of the Church hierarchy for the sins of others?

Yeah, well by that reasoning, every time I meet a Japanese person they should apologize to me for killing my uncle in WWII and shooting at my father.
Which is obviously ridiculous.
I’m not apologizing for the Church.

That’s up to you.

I’m saying; “I’m sorry the Church treated you this way,” is probably a good first step.

Because many of them held a leadership position in the Church when the abuses were happening.
Also, when you’re in a leadership position and stuff happened even before you got there, “the buck stops here” with you.

If my company committed fraud, it would be the current CEO’s responsibility even if the fraud happened under the last CEO.
But if the fraud happened before I came to work there and in a different department from mine, and I wasn’t in management, it is not my responsibility or my place to apologize.

What Dan says there is consistent with what I said. As I said, gay men are typically more promiscuous than other men. But you originally were denying the claim:

“Homosexuals do not necessarily have an obsessive need for sex.”

This means that you hold to the position:

“Homosexuals DO necessarily have an obsessive need for sex.”

That second statement is false, and it is not something Dan Mattson defended in his FT article.

That’s a confusing statement because if men are abusing boys they are abusing their same sex.

Under subsidiarity, it would be more like holding the president accountable for fraud going on in county government. I get your point, but there is no company with the number of branches the Catholic Church has, or even close. It is a different scale.

Or let him resign, if it he really mislead his diocese. I have no problem with that. Too many bishops care more about their position than the Church. Jesus taught that the good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. There are some bishops that would never even consider laying down their lifestyle for the sheep.

Girls were abused as well. Nineteen percent were girls. A pedophile - male or female - will abuse a child of either gender. That doesn’t make the abuser bisexual or homosexual, though of course, I believe some were.

Not necessarily. There are plenty of pedophiles who won’t touch girls and plenty who won’t touch boys. It’s not as if their deviance includes any child. They do have specific desires and inclinations.

All the pedophiles I knew were girl focused. They had no interest in boys at all. As a result all the boys refused to believe the girls when the girls came forward with the abuse.

Yes, after I posted, I realized I was wrong that they will abuse either sex. You are right, they definitely have preferences.

Thank you.

Here is one study:

The empirical research does not show that gay or bisexual men are any more likely than heterosexual men to molest children. This is not to argue that homosexual and bisexual men never molest children. But there is no scientific basis for asserting that they are more likely than heterosexual men to do so. And, as explained above, many child molesters cannot be characterized as having an adult sexual orientation at all; they are fixated on children.

http://psychology.ucdavis.edu/rainbow/html/facts_molestation.html

It also talks about the difference between pedophilia and child molestation.

Oh yeah, I get it. My experience with abuse was all hetero men and hetero women. But, the stats don’t lie. The majority of children abused in the Church were male, and the majority of the abusers were male. I think it’s safe to presume the abuse problem in the Church, specifically, might have been a homosexual pedophile problem.

I never said all priests molested children. I don’t believe most do. I said it seems all the molesters had in common was that they were priests and abusers. Certainly there are child molesters who are not priests or even Catholic. But all of the priest molesters were child abusers. We are only talking about this group of Pennsylvania priests, not priests in general.

Yes, I’m sure it does. It certainly doesn’t help advance Catholicism in the eyes of those who know little about it, either. I’ve heard things like, “Here we go again.” I know in my diocese, if someone reports abuse by a priest, that priest is immediately suspended pending an investigation. Our bishop takes this very seriously. Our weekly bulletins always contain something about where and how to report abuse, and they encourage people to do so.
