I was finally able to download the video. It looked like he was reaching out to the young and also young adults. If every priest could reach out to the youth of their parishes-then the pews would be full-every Sunday and day of Obligation. And I may add that there are many health issues or handicaps that are not visual. So if a priest can cast his net and pull in all the little fishies-who am I to judge. Peace.
I was sorta thinking :rolleyes: the same. One one hand, Christmas is a very holy holiday. We should not take our eyes off the prize. On the other, is the birth of our LORD and Savior supposed to be celebrated solemnly? Nope. Joy to the world, the LORD is come, let eartth receive her King! Let us celebrate! I get a gimmick in church may not be the best place, but like Mary Estelle said, it’s a great impression for the kids. And if the kids want to go to church, the parents will have to take them! I hate to say, but it’s time to think outside the box. Radical Christianity. We have commercialized GOD to our demise, with eyes off the prize. At least the focus was back on church. Well, sorta. Tough for the tradtionalists. But these are tough times. Two sides. Great debate. Happy new year ! And buy stock in that company.

As a Young Adult, a leader in my parish’s Young Adult ministry (and friends with young priests and seminarians) in a very active diocese and parish…No. Just, no. That’s not how you reach out to us.

We can get irreverant BS on TV, and you don’t even have to wake up early.

My priests (there’s four here) would literally die before doing something like this. And my parish has near full pews for all of our 10 Sunday (two vigil) masses too.

This is the problem that older folks can’t seem to grasp about reaching out to the Young. “If we offer them something familiar and trendy, then they’ll come!”

First up, you’re not going to be trendy. At least not well, or behind the trend. And trendy in church always looks hokey and forced. Plus, you simply won’t compete with TV and Hollywood and will look bad in comparison.
Second, familiar just means I can get it from everywhere else with no effort.

I don’t want the familiar and trendy, I want the transcendent and eternal.

And that’s why this guy just looks silly and like he’s trying too hard. The board adds nothing. It just says, “Look at me! Look at how cool I am! I’m on a boards, isn’t the cool. I’m cool!” One, it’s not about the priest, and two, no, he doesn’t look cool.

Yes! Absolutely! I am a young adult too. “Kids” want authenticity. They want to be part of something bigger.

If church is just another entertainment venue they will treat it as such and move on when they are bored.

Because I couldn’t download the video I guess I will have to give the priest the benefit of not judging him. It could be he has;
bad knees
bad hips
bad back
bad heart
who knows-I don’t.
Peace.
After much practice on that thing, it could be that he has all of those things 😃 After watching the video I was not impressed.
