VATICAN CITY (CNS) – Climbing the Holy Stairs on one’s knees, getting a blessing from Pope Benedict XVI, visiting dark catacombs and downing green Sambuca and mounds of pasta carbonara well past midnight.

That’s just a small sampling from the itinerary of a new and rather novel Italian pilgrimage led by U.S. radio talk show host, “The Catholic Guy,” Lino Rulli.

Rulli and 40 listeners of his nationally broadcast radio show traveled with Father Rob Keighron of St. Helen Church, Howard Beach, N.Y., to have what Rulli called “the best and the worst pilgrimage in the world.”

Besides the fact that I remembered hearing about this months ago, my first thought was “It must be Lino”.

God bless Lino and his giant nose.

Heh, sounds pretty cool to me! I don’t think I get this radio station in my area but it would be nice to listen to sometime.

Most likely you do get the signal, it’s just that he’s on satellite radio.

He’s a great host. It’s not overtly a teaching show (like CA), it’s more like a talk/variety show. There’s lots of talk about Catholic things. For example, Lino seems to talk about going to confession a lot. Or he’ll have an hour where he talks about vocations because he’s getting close to 40 and wants to figure out what God wants for his life :).

I caught his last show yesterday from Vatican Radio and toward the end he played their final meal and toasts to the pilgrims. Lino’s mom was in the studio too. That was fun.

Personally, based on Lino’s comments at the end, I think he grew somewhat on the pilgrimage. It was very good for him. As he said himself, he was actually truly concerned for other people besides himself.

I can’t wait to see all the postings on his website of the trip.
