I wish we had Catholic radio in my area. We are getting a brand new Catholic university, Ave Maria, and a town to go along with it. They purchased a local FM radio station, but say it will be about three years before they can offer Catholic programming. It does look like we will be getting Catholic radio this year. Unfortantely, on an AM station that doesn’t come in too well.

Our local diocese’s FM radio station plays mostly Christian Pop Rock 😦 Catholic Answers was kicked off when they had a guest that criticized the American bishops. Listen on short wave or Internet.

Dear friends,

In Ireland with a population of over 90% Catholic we are not allowed to have a national or local CATHOLIC radio station. The reason is that we might offend our Protestant neighbours. I know the religious divide has taken many lives here in the Northern part of our country and in the Republic (but not to the same degree at all). See we have now enacted the Good Friday agreement which spotlights religious indifference and tries to deal with it. Fruits? No Christian Radio station at all. Talk of them but none yet. Now we have people taking civil action to hush the bells of the Angelus as they are offended by the Catholic call to prayer.😦
So! It is ok to have a non-denominational Christian station. Hmmmmm:hmmm: To me non-denominational means don’t mention anything Catholic and you are fine! Surely thats denominational, exclusive and bordering on supression? There again our government has always favoured the tail wagging the dog so we should not be suprised.

Although it is a pity that we have no national or local catholic radio, of course we have international EWTN radio as it is available on the SKY satellite system and there is talk of the TV station coming to SKY shortly. So I will be very grateful for these mercies!

Blessings,
Fergal

I live just east of Ann Arbor, MI, and am blessed to be able to receive TWO Catholic radio stations (WDEO and WCAR). The ONLY times I switch to another station other than those two is if I need a quick traffic report, and to listen to A Prairie Home Companion on NPR.

Unfortunately I can’t get AM radio where I work (Renaissance Center in downtown Detroit), and my work laptop’s soundcard is kaput, otherwise I’d tune in on the Internet.

I listen on WQOP Queen of Peace Radio out of Dora/Birmingham. I live just a hop, skip and a jump from the EWTN studios. In Irondale, AL.

John Martignoni is one of my favorites. He is on EWTN Open Line on Thursdays. HE ROCKS! 👍 He is an excellent apologist. Check out his website: www.biblechristiansociety.com
:bounce: Me too on all counts!

I discovered WQOP while driving my children back and forth to school. Open Line is on in the afternoon while I’m in the car and that’s how I became a HUGE John Martignoni fan. Do you have all his tapes? They’re as much fun to pass around as they are to listen to!

To those reading this who have never heard John, go to his bible christian society website and get some of his free tapes. He DOES ROCK and he is an excellent apologist.

How does Catholic Radio fit into your life?
I love my local EWTN station! Open Line and Catholic Answers Live are my favorites. That is how I found catholic.com and subsequently these forums. More importantly, I am know much more about my faith than I did a year ago thanks to these programs, and if I am every challenged, I’ll be able to rise to it. Thank you EWTN and CAtholic Answers.

As I write this I am listening to John Martignoni’s June 10th radio show that I clicked on from your blog.

Thank you, kevinfraser!!🙂

I try to listen everyday. I live in the Ann Arbor area, so I listen to WDEO 990 Ave Maria Radio. Back when I was going to school, I would get up at 6 am and listen to Sister Anne Shields’ radio show “Food For The Journey”. I’ve also gotten her two booklets “Hope In The Midst of Suffering” and “Why Forgive”. They’re very good, you should try to get them if you can.

Those are my favorites too! I haven’t listened to Catholic Answers that often though, but I still make sure I listen to Open Line Thursday when John Martignoni does apologetics.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news regarding WQOP, but it appears to have been sold to non-Catholic Christian group, Crawford Broadcasting, for $1.15 million.

A little more on that.

I love listening to Catholic Answers and the Dr. is in… these are the only two programs I get to hear… Our station here in Eugene, only has certain time slots… I wish it was available 24/7… I will just keep praying…

***I listen to Relevent Radio. I miss Jeff Cavins on Morning Air!!! :crying: ***

I listen to AM 1440 Midland, MI. The reception is poor. I wish we had an FM station.

I have listened to it frequently since moving to central Texas in 1971. Reception where I am is not very good most of the time, however. It was from Catholic Radio that I learned about this forum, to perhaps the delight and perhaps the disgust of those who have read and reacted to my posts.

Try to listen to Catholic Radio at least on my ride to and from work. Unfortunately, in the Houston area, the reception has some major interference, which can be rather irritating when listening to Catholic Answers on the ride home. Luckily, they have it all on the internet and the reception there is perfect. G (I keep hoping for a better transmitter for the local station)

I love listening to our local station as it has led me to more understanding of the Catholic Faith (and increasing my desire to join it. G)

I’m in Detroit and listen to 990 am. I listen in my car. I love Dr Ray and Heart Mind & Strength with Gregg and Lisa Popchak. They offer great advice on parenting (gee, I don’t even have any kids and I enjoy listening), marriage, family life etc.
I also enjoy Catholic Answers.
🙂

I’m in Chicago, and I’ve experienced a few “waves” of Catholic radio, where it’s there for a while and then disappears, and then comes back in a different form, and then disappears, and then comes back again.

Each time I get really into it for a few months, and then I get really bored with it because it’s the same stuff over and over again.

Most recently I got really tired of “Morning Air” last spring, when it seemed like every day they were either talking about “The Passion”, or talking with Dr. Mark Miravalle about Mary. On very special days they would talk to Dr. Mark Miravalle about Mary in “The Passion”. I also got fed up with the “Back to the Basics” spots, hearing over and over again, “What’s the Triduum?” So I’m back to listening to “Morning Edition” on public radio.

Anyway now I mainly restrict myself to listening to Dr. Ray (who is always interesting), and sometimes the Catholic Answers Q&A open forums with Jimmy Akin or Karl Keating. But even there it seems like people are always asking variations of the same questions over and over again.

As of right now, we do not have Catholic Radio in Cleveland, Ohio.
But I heard that Catholic Radio will be a reality.

Yet, I like the sound quality of the Internet over AM Radio anyday!

Go with God!

We have WILB 1060 in Canton. Yipee! I love it.

I listen to catholic radio in my car on 1090 AM, but just recently they stopped the program at 5:00pm and that’s when I used to listen to Catholic Answers, I live in the Kansas City area, anyone know why they stopped airing after 5:00pm?

River Glorious:
I’m very fortunate to be able to get WDEO from Ann Arbor even though I live about 150 miles north.

I have the radio on almost all day. Once in awhile when I get tired of the talking and want to listen to music, I tune in the Protestant music station.
We get it here in Detroit, but only during the day, at night, for some reason, it gets overwhelmed by a station in New Brunswick ??? I still haven’t figured that one out.

I also had to do a series of meetings at Domino’s Farms so I got to check out the WDEO office and do Mass at the chaple (complete with Fr. Pat Egan) really, really nice!
