I don’t think Santorum will be the nominee, but I do wonder whether we could see a Romney-Santorum ticket.
I think it’s unlikely. There’s too much overlap there, with respect to votes. Rubio, on the other hand, would gain Romney votes in demographics he wouldn’t otherwise get.I don’t think Santorum will be the nominee, but I do wonder whether we could see a Romney-Santorum ticket.
Marco Rubio seems to be on everyone’s short list for VP, but he has said repeatedly that he isn’t interested.I think it’s unlikely. There’s too much overlap there, with respect to votes. Rubio, on the other hand, would gain Romney votes in demographics he wouldn’t otherwise get.
Yes but if asked it will be interesting if the senator who has the experience of being a senator for a grand total of 14 mos (and people think Obama was inexperienced) would go back on his word and accept being a heartbeat away from the Presidency.Marco Rubio seems to be on everyone’s short list for VP, but he has said repeatedly that he isn’t interested.
What demographics that Santorum or Romney would otherwise not get?I think it’s unlikely. There’s too much overlap there, with respect to votes. Rubio, on the other hand, would gain Romney votes in demographics he wouldn’t otherwise get.
Exactly. What percentage would Santorum need to win? Which is more likely considering the states still left to vote?CNN says there are 1384 delegates still to be assigned, out of a total of 2286. So just over 60% sounds right.
If we trust CNN’s delegate count, Romney has 489 and needs at least 1144. That means he needs an additional 655.
Since there are 1384 delegates still to be assigned, this would mean he needs to win a bit more than 47% of the remaining delegates.
No, because destroying the whole country without any plan to replace what you have torn down is just plain stupid. It seems the conservatives want to drag this country back to before the civil war era. Perhaps I misunderstand but your comment sounds like you are trying to say that I am motivated by wanting the government to take care of me. Please note that the last democrat I voted for, before Obama, was Hubert Humphrey when he ran against Nixon. That was a long time ago.Because governments the quick and easy answer that will make it all better!![]()
I’m a constitutional conservative libertarian. I think the GOPs too close to the middle. No, because destroying the whole country without any plan to replace what you have torn down is just plain stupid. But the GOP is not the party of Lincoln anymore. Eisenhower, Ford and even Reagan would not be far right enough for the new GOP. .Barry Goldwater’s daughter said that her dad would not be considered conservative enough and would never recognize what his party has become. I had great respect for Goldwater. The party has sold out to far right radicals in the Tea Party, where there is clear evidence that the “so called” grass roots movement started and was motivated by race, Limbaugh,Fox news and financed by the Koch Brothers. It is also interesting how the GOP has now distanced themselves from them at least until after the election. When the GOP again is about being fiscally conservative and moves more toward the center than I will join the party again. In the mean time, I think they are using us and the abortion issue to destroy what is left of the middle class and to raise up all those rich people and companies they are tied to. People like Grover Norquist. Respectfully-
Bare assertion fallacy. Source of something you want torn down? No, because destroying the whole country without any plan to replace what you have torn down is just plain stupid.
Source? It seems the conservatives want to drag this country back to before the civil war era.
I too have a great respect for Goldwater. Can you source the “clear evidence” that the Tea Party is motivated by race? Seeing that the Tea Party movement’s primary focus has been fiscal conservativism, I’m not sure where any Goldwater Republican would call the Tea Party “radical”. Sounds a little like a Media Matters tpm.Perhaps I misunderstand but your comment sounds like you are trying to say that I am motivated by wanting the government to take care of me. So what recent GOP activty to you hasn’t been “fiscally conservative”? What “move to the center” would suit your sensibilities? No opposition to abortion? It is also interesting how the GOP has now distanced themselves from them at least until after the election. With all due respect, right out of the far left playbook. The GOP moved to the center with McCain and Dole and you see where that got us. You are concerned that the GOP should move to the center, what about the far radical left moving to the center? With regard to fiscal responsibility, what get bill has come from the Dems to curb spending and get our fiscal house in order? And I am not sure the Republicans are using the abortion issue at all except to have a respect for life expressed in their platform. I just don’t get how they are trying to destroy the middle class. All those “rich people and companies” you demean are the ones who provide the jobs for the rest of us. Using that as the Dems do is class envy plain and simple. I am surprised you have fallen for that if you truly are an admired of Goldwater. No, because destroying the whole country without any plan to replace what you have torn down is just plain stupid. Give this Lutheran a chance - just a chance - to vote for a Catholic this fall.Would be nice … reversal of HHS mandate and Obamacare !!!![]()
Did anyone on the left have anything to say about this?I just heard this on Rush Lambaugh.Apparently the leftist media is spinning Rick Santorums’ winning in both Alabama and Mississippi as racistWhy,you say? According to the left, the fact that white working class women overwhelmingly voted for Santorum, that must mean that race trumps their desire for control of their reproductive rights
Only problem with that theory is,there are only white men running in the primary:shrug:
I’m glad you have the gift of foresightNot a chance. Romney will likely get the nomination and if Santorum somehow gets the nomination, he will lose to Obama
The best Santorum or Gingrich can hope for at this point is a brokered convention and the guys in the back room aren’t going to pick either of these guys (or Palin for that matter.) Jeb Bush, maybe.
Romney is in real trouble right now. He has had ample opportunity to seal the deal and has fallen short. The movers and shakers in the party are probably interviewing alternatives now.
That’s comforting to know.I still don’t see a plasible senario where Santorum gets the nomination let alone the white house.
