Catholic school board found guilty of religious discrimination against UFO cult

The Ontario Human Rights Tribunal has ordered a Catholic school board to compensate three members of a prominent UFO cult after finding the board guilty of religious discrimination.

Daniel, Michel, and Sylvie Chabot, members of the Raelian cult, were hired in November 2006 by the Conseil Scolaire Catholique Franco-Nord to offer ‘emotional pedagogy’ training sessions for teachers. They delivered such sessions through what they call the Academy of Pleasurology and Emotional Intelligence (APEI).

The Catholic board chose to end the contract in January 2007 after discovering their membership in the cult, which claims that humans were planted on Earth by benevolent extraterrestrials.

On December 15th, Tribunal vice president Michelle Flaherty ruled that the board had discriminated against the three siblings on the basis of their beliefs. The parties had agreed to mediation, but asked the Tribunal to determine if the human rights code was violated. The decision does not reveal how much the board must pay in penalty.

Perhaps there is a lesson to learn here. hopefullly they stop hiring outsiders of our Fatih to teach Catholics.

Whats the church come to when it hires people who hold such a deviant morality as the Raelians. A quick analysis of their moral teaching reveals a worldview incompatible with christianity regardless of other beliefs.

To be fair, the school didn’t know, when they signed the contract, that the organization was led by Raelians. And once they found out, they canceled the contract.

I guess I have to wonder why the school didn’t see a red flag when it came to contracting services from an organization called the “Academy of Pleasurology and Emotional Intelligence.” I don’t know, maybe it sounds better in French, but in English the name sure raises my suspicions. The news article doesn’t say, so I wonder how thoroughly the school vetted the organization and its teachings before hiring it.

A specific example: Tony Blair said of Gordon Brown in his memoirs “Political calculation, yes. Political feelings, no. Analytical intelligence, absolutely. Emotional intelligence, zero.” This was probably the best summing up of the complicated figure of Gordon Brown I’d read.

I’m not particularly bothered about whether Emotional Intelligence is a generally accepted term or not, but to be fair to those that use it: It’s not supposed to mean that Emotions have Intelligence. It’s a way of measuring how smart someone is not about logic or knowledge, but but how smart they are at realising what you and someone else is feeling, and reacting appropriately. There’s no religious or New Age component to it, any more than there is with an IQ test. Note that Tony Blair would have already been Roman Catholic as he wrote the words I quoted.

Although, I must say “Pleasurology” does have an attractive aspect, albeit it somewhat smutty, to the non-thinking in the group. Pity it’s an education board that was attracted to it.

Such things could easily be avoided if Catholic schools made sure anyone they hired would be Catholic to begin with and sign a document saying that as long as they were employed here they would support, uphold and teach Catholic principles listed here: etc.

Sadly some people in Catholic schools are more interested in spreading heresy, immorality and anticlericalism amongst their students and staff than teaching them anything of substance.

It doesn’t surprise me when 99% of Catholic students in Catholic schools couldn’t tell you why the Catholic Church needs a pope. Much less why we should listen to him…
