Are you kidding right? Get real the Church says so. CHRIST is present in the eucharist, but seems you don’t believe so.
Does she know so? Seriously… I didn’t hear about the ‘real presence’ until I was in my late 20s, and I went through Catholic school. It could be that her culpability is limited due to poor catechisis in which case, there are others more culpable than she is. I’m not saying her actions weren’t wrong but she may not have the knowledge to make her fully culpable for the desecration aspect. At her age, I wouldn’t have known it was anything more than symbolic. I wonder if this is the case for this girl too.

I wouldn’t be suprised if this was the case with this young lady. A lot of folks miss a lot of the catechism even if they memorize it, she wouldn’t be the first.

This story seems so typically anti catholic fiction. Far to reflective and emotive to be a spur of the moment action. Maybe true in action but the spin doesn’t ring true.

Once you are over the age of reason (~7) you are culpable for your mortal sins. If she descrated the eucharist and still unrepentent she has sinned gravely and that demands justice or repentance.

God Bless

Give me a friggin’ break. This is what is wrong with modern society. We coddle criminals and rebellious youth who, while immature, have enough reason to know the basics of what is right and wrong. If she didn’t know that this was something terribly wrong to do, then she should be permanently institutionalized. Its this bleeding heart nonsense that will send more people to hell than anything else.
Hi Byzmelkite:👋
You’ll need to read my post a wee bit more carefully. It in no way suggests coddling, or what the appropriate reprimand might be. You assumed that part yourself! Yes, I believe the girl should be punished appropriately and made to understand what she did was wrong. Her schoolmates must understand it also.

Plenty of people have made that point and I couldn’t agree more.:yup:

But moving back to Bella’s excellent point which is a separate challenge: What this girl did, was the epidome of a sick, sick, sick society. Remember, it’s the same environment and society that sees abortion, euthanasia, and other evils to come to fruition. All we are experiencing at these end stages, is the manifestation. The cold sores of the disease.

And at a certain level, I’m afraid that you and I belong to that sick society, and are collectively responsible. We cannot make Pilate’s claim here. We must examine our own roles in prevention - before the manifestation itself as seen in this example. Ask yourself - What more you can do to prevent this from happening ever again? What have you done lately to make children understand that the Eucharist is one of, if not the most Holy and Sacred tradition of Christ’s Church?

I will answer for us all. Evidently not quite enough.

What do you suggest be done? Pope JPII the Great dedicated this year to the eucharist. He must have known before he died that we needed a renewal of our awareness of the “real presence”. I am sure he is watching us from above. What kind of a miracle will it take to get the schools, parishes, and parents to instill in their children the true meaning of their faith…the real presence!!! I encourage all of you reading this to say a little prayer to Pope JPII the Great and ask for a miracle.

What can we do? It’s about our relationship with our Lord - Nothing could equal attending Mass and understanding it as heaven on earth.

The Lord sends us what we need. John Paul II recognized this and beatified Mother Theresa so that we have the modern role model and example of the very type you describe. In turn I will simply quote her famous words, “In this life we cannot do great things. We can only do small things with great love.”

Elizabeth B.:
Has the school administration publicly responded to this article?
As of July 27 there has been no response from the administration either by e-mail, responding on this forum or writing a letter to the editor. Sounds to me like they think this is a trivial matter and they have better things to do.

Sorry, she should in fact be expelled as to send the message as well that the purpose of a catholic school is to be catholic. This is the ONLY reason Catholic Schools exist. Not to babysit.
I suggest she stay because she WANTS to be expelled.

The purpose of a Catholic school is to teach Catholicism and all it embodies to children, even overgrown ones with raging hormones and underdeveloped thought processes. It would be the same if a girl in a Catholic high school got pregnant (or a boy was known to have gotten a girl pregnant), or obtained an abortion- she (he) could attend classes, but all the other great stuff of school is lost to her, including walking across the stage for graduation, sports, yearbook, all the fun stuff gone. It doesn’t teach these kids anything if they are kicked out- and in most cases, they want to be kicked out. They know these actions are mortally sinful, but of course, they are teenagers, and so much more smarter than adults- until the reckoning comes.

My way is a lot more punitive than you think. It is easy to publically thumb one’s nose at convention by committing a mortal sin; nay, even a full-blown act of defiance and excommunication- and be able to shrug one’s little shoulders and walk away from it. Sure, go off to the new school, talk bad about the horrible, medieval Church, get a whole new set of avant-garde friends, and make your parents and family feel as if they don’t even know you. Better these children (and they ARE children in adult bodies) stay put, and face what they’ve done, make public ammends and penance, lose all privileges except the privilege to attend school, and see what happens in a year.

But I would not leave this one alone during Mass- which I am sure she wants to skip. In fact, I’ll ammend my last idea: Her parents should have to come to school Mass with her if she stays. If that’s five days a week (which I doubt), then fine. Each and every time there is Mass, Mom or Dad has to sign in at the office, escort her to Mass, and stay through the whole thing. Now, if Mom and/ or Dad can’t do that simple thing, then yes, she should be asked to leave, in fact told to pack it up- because Mom and Dad are not putting action to their professed faith. In that case, it would be like this::banghead: and not worth the administration’s trouble.

Are you telling us that the Catholic High School is

 L I B E R A L???

Do liberals advocate abusing the eucharist?
I should fervently hope not, which is why Mr. Howard should be bombarded with email. Let us give these

 LIBERALS  a chance to put their faith into practice, and show us what they are worth. Mr. Howard is the campus minister. He’s the one who handles Masses and the like. He needs to be concerned about this. At best, we’ll be seeing the good side of somebody if he does something about it that’s really doing something. We’ll be giving Mr. Howard an opportunity to put his faith in action. At worst, we’ve said our piece in accordance with scripture and clogged his email box in the process.

I say that all of us concerned go spend an hour in Adoration for the girl and for those who are working with her. Let us do penance for the manner in which she has hurt the Lord, and plead for His mercy and graces to be poured upon her so that she may soon return to his precious heart.

This one act can mean more than all of the letters we can send.

In addition, I would ask that we all pray at least one Rosary for the same intention. Jesus will not ignore His mother.

Don’t get angry. Don’t be hurt. Pray!

Thank you Fergal and Elizabeth Joy for publishing the article. For anybody else who would like to write to the principal of Archbishop Mitty High School the name of the Principal is Tim Brosnan and the e-mail address is info@mitty.com
Just FYI, I tried to e-mail at that address, but it came back “The following addresses had permanent fatal errors.” Perhaps it’s because lots have contacted him? Let’s hope!

But anyway, if anyone else wants to send a comment to Principal Brosnan, you can post a comment on this page:
mitty.com/email.php?name=Tim%20Brosnan&addr=brosnan

I just sent in some comments.

Thank you AuntMartha. When I e-mailed the High school I received an immediate “Thank you for writing…etc” and the e-mail address on the automatic acknowledgement e-mail had the address that I gave. The address you gave is much better. I hope there will be someone who can monitor the Mercury News for the next week while I am gone. I haven’t checked to see if “Letters to the Editor” are available on-line.
Outinchgoburbs has suggested that the person we need to be corresponding with is Mr Howard, the campus minister. I would love to have Mr. Howard join this forum.

It would be grwat to contact the Catholic League, as well as very orthodox newspapaers and media. Some good ones are The Wanderer, The New Oxford Review.

Nope!

I have done the same thing when I was a teenager .I took it home and burned the host in front of my crucifix and stabbed Christ on the cross with a knife through his heart and said this is for satan.
**** you I said.
My life since that day has been of sorrow and disobedience. a constant battle between satan and Christ.

So anyone is ever thinking of doing this …DON’T.

I have deeply hurt God ,I can never get over this .I am in the battle fields and
God forgives
but I haven’t forgiven myself , I have committed horrendous sins, I hear things , I have pains that creep up on me…nice things and love snapped from right under my feet…
The only thing that stops me killing myself is fear of God ,hope ,God’s mercy and grace.
And I have to believe this.

The catholic Girl who blasphemed the Church .I don’t know what she said and I don’t want to know either but what was her frame of mind ?.
Was she abused and angry and it was her way of hitting out like I did and couldn’t handle the pressure anymore.
Something would have triggered her off.
Was she in the spiritual battle zone?.
:tsktsk: Lets not speak harsh of her ,pray and encourage her to find redemption.
She knows she has done wrong.

I sincerely hope you know you were excommunicated for this automatically, and probably still are if you have not confessed it to a priest in your local CATHEDRAL. Why cathedral? Well because only the Cathedral priests are delegated by the Bishop to absolve serious church crimes against the Eucharist, as the one you comited. Were you involved in devil worship? What would inspire you to do such an evil thing?

That being said, God forgives and is merciful. Go to confession, forgive yourself as well. God loves you.
