She sounds to me like a bright young kid with an attitude who really knows how to pull certain people’s chains. She may half believe the well done drivel she has written, but it fails to exercise my ire. What happened to the host? Reverence and concern is a good thing but I cannot believe that Jesus is the least bit insulted by her actions. After what we did to Him on Good Friday, Him being folded away in a pocket or even being tossed in the garbage is nothing. Maybe Jack Chick can sign her up to continue his misbegotten mission.
What??? Are you even Catholic?

The thing that strikes me is that as a society, in an effort to create free-thinking, intelligent young people (certainly a very noble pursuit and one we should continue) we have instead created an entire generation (a generation of which I am a member) that is more interested in making rash conclusions taking anti-everything positions without ever bothering to take a real spiritual and intellectual journey. This young woman can’t possibly be mature or educated enough to make conclusions about a 2,000 year old institution like that. People in my generation always seem to think they are smarter than they really are.

I am currently entering my senior year at a public university majoring in history and philosophy. Now, when I first arrived and was introduced to Neitsczhe, Hume, an anglo-centric and anti-Catholic view of history, and a host of athiest professors…the easiest thing in the world would have been to cast aside my faith and take the trendy, Anti-Catholic position. It would have been easy to proclaim myself Buddhist or New Age or an athiest without even giving it a second thought, and many in academia probably would have liked me all the better for it. But instead I realized that I was far too ignorant and young to take such a position, and continued to learn and remain steadfast in my faith, just as I was taught.

Then, I took a Philosophy of Religion class, thought, wait a minute, it isn’t either study philsophy or be religious–I can have both. The Catholic Faith actually makes sense. Well, after falling in love with greats like Lewis, Chesterton, St. Bonaventure, St. Augustine, and most especially St. Thomas, the faith became all the more beautiful. The Catechism, Humanae Vitae, and the Nicene Creed seem like brilliant works. I now can see the truth of the Catholic Church in Mozarts Requiem in d minor, in Rublev’s Trinity, and in the history of Catholic Europe. More importantly, I can more fully appreciate the grace I receive every time I partake in one of Christ’s sacraments. I realize that even now I am far too ignorant on most matters, but it is my hope that the seminary will continue to educate me more.

I feel like most of us on this forum probably have a similar story or experience with the faith. The point is, this girl denouncing Catholicism as a teenager is like pulling a cake out of the oven after 5 minutes and saying it tastes terrible. Its just premature. For some reason our culture seems to have been, for the past 40 or 50 years, producing scores and scores of people like this girl. People that are too arrogant to realize their own ignorance, not patient enough to wait for the finished product. This girl doesn’t deserve our disdain, only our pity and prayer. God bless.

Maybe what we should do is take an hour of our Eucharist Adoration and use it and pray for the reparation of the sins Against Our Lord in the Eucharist. Let Our Lord know that we will sit with him and Stand by him!

Something in that girl’s story smacks of fiction. I don’t think I am that naive, but I truly believe that a Catholic highschooler would do anything so absolutely reprehensible.

Assuming she destroyed the most precious body of our Lord Jesus Christ, this woman has already excommunicated herself by desecration of the host. Besides being burned at the stake ( long over due), she should be expelled from the school, if she refuses to recant her words and repent.

Now if we just all recieved Christ on our tounge loonies would not be able to walk off the Christ or sell him on Ebay!
Sorry, but how would receiving on the tongue prevent that? She could have just as easily removed it by making a fake cough or something.

HOW she received it isn’t so important as that she felt it was OK to slip it into her pocket. The fact that she blabbed about it in a newspaper (I’m going to check and see if I can pull up that link, if it’s the paper I’m thinking) says it all.

I would not expel her. She obviously needs to be in Catholic scool. She would be in my office, first alone, then with her parents, and we would TALK (I would talk, they would listen). She would not have any senior privileges. And she would be expected to attend school Mass despite her new-found disbelief with a chaperone- and no Eucharist wihtout proof of repentance. In short, she would be treated the same as any non-Catholic in a Catholic school.

I was right, San Jose Mercury News, the most liberal of liberal papers out there.

Not just the bishop, not just the principal, but the campus minister. His name is Dick Howard. This girl needs to be watched.

Well if this is what you think, then the naive one is you. No, they have actually done WORSE than this.

Sorry, she should in fact be expelled as to send the message as well that the purpose of a catholic school is to be catholic. This is the ONLY reason Catholic Schools exist. Not to babysit.

Maybe this poster is just saying it’s NOT a Catholic School.

In a word ,you’re wrong about the black mass.

In order to have a black mass, you need a priest gone bad. The priest says the black mass and can consecrate his own host(s).
That, also, is incorrect. Although satanists would certainly love to have an heretical priest involved, it is not required to have a so-called “black mass.” Consecrated Hosts from an actual Mass can be used instead of actually consecrating Hosts during the black mass. That is why it is so dreadful what this young lady has done.

This sounds like a “black communion service” instead of a “black mass”. 😛

I found the article and have reproduced it above. I contacted the Principal of the school by email stating my profound sadness at what had been reported in the Mercury and asked him to consider his duty of acknowledging this sacrilage and how he may now take steps to let the student know how the Church views such matters.

I suggest if you feel strongly enough about it you may do the same. It is a Catholic school and they need to repond to this shameful act.
From her article it appears she was never taught Catholicism, or how to think critically at all. Either the school is typically CINO or the student has failed to grasp the truth for one of many reasons we can all list.

Instead of trying to damn this poor girl to Hell why can’t we do the Christian thing and pray for her. Pray that she sees the error of her ways and repents for her sins before it’s too late.

God, bless this young woman who has closed her heart to Jesus. Bless her and open her heart to your love and help her to see the error of her ways and have mercy on her and help her get back on the path of salvation. Amen.
Thank you for saying this… :clapping: Oh my Goodness, there are so many mean spirits out there.

She is 16 years old for crying out loud… This is NOT the end of the world. Just a cry for help.

I think the shock is not only at the girls’s actions, but that one receiving a Catholic education could come to hold such erroneous beliefs.

Bella,

I think you have missed the point. If this girl were only seven and had just reached the age of reason we would be more understanding of her actions. The point most of us is making is that this is the behavior of an honor student who has spent the last three years in the Catholic school environment. We don't know if she is 16, 17 or 18 years old. If you have read all the posts you would see that most of us are concerned not only for her lack of religious training but also the scandal she has created by making light of "pocketing" the eucharist. I went to communion this morning and was almost in tears when I "apologized" for the scandal of one of our fellow Catholics. I am positive many of us are praying for her and we hope that the school will also apologize for her behavior. I am sure our lord and saviour does not want us to just ignore the sacrilege. I will be praying for not only Lisette but also the Catholic school that failed to teach her the basic truths of Catholicism.
Dear Jesus,
I am sorry for the sins of all of those who have desecrated your sacred host. I am sorry for the sins of the Catholic schools that no longer are able to teach the students to respect and love the eucharist. Please dear God have mercy on all of us sinners and please send your holy spirit to enlighten those who are responsible for the moral and spiritual teaching of the students in the Catholic schools. Please inspire the authorities at Mitty High School to properly discipline anyone who would desecrate the host. Since the scandal was public please inspire Lisette to acknowledge publicly how much she has hurt not only your sacred eucharist but also all your faithful Catholics.
Amen

Has the school administration publicly responded to this article?

This was kind of my line of thought too.

The kind of shallow catechism that has been taught throughout the years, and consider the region in which this school resides. If I’m not mistaken, it does tend to lean more liberal, or is that just specific areas of that state?

While she may have committed a grave sin and sacrilege, woe to those who didn’t do their job adequately instructing her while she was in her formative years. That kind of decay doesn’t happen overnight. Somewhere between home and school, or both, she was failed. Or, many around her were failed, sucking her into the vacuum.
