Catholic School in Quebec Loses Religious Freedom Case

In the link there was no mention of Private Schools but I took Catholic schools to mean those that are publicly funded.

In Ontario, people get to choose where their school taxes go. If you choose to send your taxes to the Catholic school, your kids get to go the Catholic school for free.

The second last paragraph expresses the bishop’s thoughts that the minister of education could have simply allowed the course already in place to be taught instead of the Provincially mandated one and that it’s not fair that the school has to set aside it’s catholicity for a few periods each week to comply with the ministry of education’s mandate.

The last paragraph refers to the fact that some Québec parents had already gone to the Supreme Court of Canada seeking exemption from this Ethics course for their children based on the Freedom of Religion article in the Canadian Charter of Right and Freedoms. The Supreme Court ruled in Feb. 2012 that being forced to take the course did not violate ‘Freedom of Religion’

Thx. I read the linked article and some of the comments following it and then read the orginal article again.

It’s interesting to know what the next step is going to be. I believe it is better to close all Catholic schools in that area rather than have Catholic schools teaching something contrary to the Catholic faith or not having the right to teach a subject from a Catholic perspective.
