VietCatholic, this school is not part of the Catholic Church of the United States.
They may use the name “Catholic:” but they are excommunicated; they have their own Pope and it isn’t Pope Benedict XVI.
So, I sort of take objection to your use of the word “Catholic” in your Thread.
It is this sort of badly written / poorly researched headline mumbo jumbo that libels the True Catholic Church.
I’m not a chauvinist, but given though the state of affairs you have described, my own opinion is the school isn’t a business (I don’t think), and it isn’t a public school run by government money.
Therefore, this school has a right to hire / fire whomever they want on their staff for whatever reason they see fit.
The Equal Employment Opportunity Act which prevents job discrimination only applies to businesses that have more than 15 employees, and government jobs I think.
This school has rights and freedom too in our country.
I didn’t read through all that ink, but if the school wants to have a male referee, that’s their perogative.
After all, it is **their school **and institution of learning.
And about that Title IX, all I can say is that in the state of Michigan, in my opinion, it’s been the public schools that don’t want to enforce Title IX.
I really doubt Title IX applies to game referees.
They’ve interviewed male public school coaches on TV here in and outside Detroit and they flatly say scheduling girls’ sports during the fall season with the main boys’ sports is such a pain, they don’t want to do it, etc.
They’ve said there may be no referees available or the refs will be overworked and not be able to give their best calls because of too much work. Sounds like a lame excuse to me.
They said these kids can only play one sport instead of two because of the lack of facilities etc etc., and it’s our local media interviewing them, and the secular media doesn’t give these male public school coaches a rough time because of what they said.
On the contrary, IMO, their TV interviewers almost agree with them.
