Latin was not adopted, it was conquered. It is also not the same thing. One is an occult practice. The other is a language. The same language that has been sanctified by over 2000 years of liturgy, 2000 years of exorcisms, and 2000 years of tradition.

You cannot perform the liturgy in yoga. You cannot perform an excorcism in yoga. Exorcists advise agianst yoga for a reason.

Yoga has come up many times before here. A search should bring up threads, some of which have many posts.

I cannot recommend this book highly enough to anyone who may think yoga is fine

Yoga and Christianity: More Than What Meets The Eye New Book Warns of Possible Dangers By Father John Flynn, LC.
"Many Christians who practice yoga, tai chi and similar techniques do so without any desire to embrace the underlying philosophy or spiritual beliefs, yet, he commented, the mind-altering techniques in themselves bring with them serious spiritual risks.

In the section on yoga he explained that it is inextricably linked to the religious beliefs of Hinduism, which is in contradiction with Christianity on many fundamental points."

Why is Yoga incompatible with Catholicism? FATHER JOHN A. HARDON, S.J

yoga postures were not created because it is a healthy exercise. They were created to pay homage to Hindu gods. Whether or not you’re practicing yoga “just to stretch” you cannot remove their intrinsic value. Let’s be genuine here. These things matter. You cannot form some other religion/culture around your own and call it good. You are just watering everything down. You are opening doors. You are moving your focus away from God.

It’s extremely ignorant at best to practice yoga in Catholic schools. It’s very disheartening for countless reasons.

Just set up an exercise program that … is not rooted in a spiritual tradition centered on extinguishing our existence. Like, um, catholic tradition. Too crazy?
🤣:point_up_2:t2::+1:t2:

All that does not alter the fact that Latin has pagan origins and was used to worship pagan gods. Yet the wisdom of the Church saw its practical value in Christian life.

There are churches in my area - not “mainline” protestant churches such as Lutheran, etc - that have “Christ Centered Yoga”. Why not just have a pilates class? I don’t think exercise classes belong as a part of church offerings but I can see how different activities that build fellowship are also beneficial. Or to offer something “in a Christian environment” a la preschool classes or a mom’s of toddlers group or clean up the neighborhood day.

There is a challenge for some churches that have large activities buildings or schools that have shrunk their footprints to subsidize their spaces so they do not have to close them and the trend is to rent them out. Examples in my area are renting 2 rooms to a daycare/Playcare, renting space to a piano teacher or a small business that’s compatible. But i have yet to see exercise classes at a Catholic church

Exorcists will tell you yoga and reiki are huge problems.
The Catholic Church needs to start listening to its own Exorcists.

What about using the pagan Latin language that was also used to honor Jupiter? That same language was adopted by the Roman Catholic Church and used in the liturgy.
Speaking in Latin does not invite in the Devil unless you are using the words to deliberately do that.
Yoga invites in a particular devil. 'Innocent ’ practitioner or not , that’s what it does. No one is really innocent who engages in yoga…they are all wanting something that they are not prepared to look for in Our Lord
Our Lord told us about self sacrificial suffering and yoga is the antithesis of that, and a most terrible one as it is also a deceiver.
Hence all the Catholics who profess to see in it no harm.
If there is no harm why does any Catholic church ban it. They gain nothing, they probably lose income.

Because that is putting Christ in the same bracket as the devil…as if somehow they work together…Individuals in churches who do that have already broken the Commandments

Which particular devil?

Why is it that in the pagan language of Latin deliberate intention is required but not in yoga? Seems superstitious to me.

It is one which is like a snake as far as I can remember in my reading. It is not superstition. I haven’t looked at Elias’ video above as it would use up my phone data but I bet the answer is somewhere in there.

Seems superstitious to me.
I think it is because there are all sorts of traps designed in hell and they are not the most obvious ones. They are designed by creatures with phenomenal intelligence and phenomenal malice. As Elias and lots of other people including good priests have explained yoga is something everyone should avoid definitely Catholics as they will be targeted more fiercely than anyone else

How was quoting St Francis words, “Brother Sun, Sister Moon,” an insult to him ?

From the article:
Should you take up yoga? As a spiritual path, yoga is incompatible with Christian spirituality. But if you can separate the spiritual/meditational aspects of yoga from the body postures and breathing techniques common to yoga, then you might be able to use those postures and techniques beneficially for health. If you’re at all unsure of your ability to do so, you may well be advised to find another form of exercise.

It is important for Catholics to know that yoga should neither be hallowed nor damned.

CAF is littered with old yoga threads. There’s really nothing spiritual about yoga so it’s a moot point. There’s a difference between something having ‘spiritual trappings’ and it being a ‘spiritual path.’

What about Catholics who don’t “stretch in the gym” and changed the name to something else.

We just went through the same thing about a year ago. The elementary school was teaching “yoga” (that’s just what they called it…because everyone knows the name…it was basic stretching). The parish got all up about it and then started their own program…which was basically the same thing…just not called yoga. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
