Catholic School teaching kids Yoga #miniyogis

They have since edited their original post to say that they are teaching the kids the Catholic faith through exposure to yoga.
 
It certainly has physical health benefits but it’s really suspicious. Isn’t this also “cultural appropriation”? Just set up an exercise program that incorporates the same physical health benefits and is not rooted in a spiritual tradition centered on extinguishing our existence. Like, um, catholic tradition. Too crazy?

Through the comments section, the school has defended itself by saying that it is important to teach children about other people and their beliefs, and that, “Hands-on experiences and play are integral parts of our early childhood pedagogy.” I hope they don’t start learning all world religions through hands-on experiences and play 😧
 
If boxing was good enough for Bing Crosby, it is good enough for me. Children in a Catholic school used it (in movies) to work out this same stress in a healthy. Then, if we want to go traditional, the is self-flagellation. The choice of saints throughout time.
 
Yoga isn’t a religion. It’s cultural at most with maybe a few philosophical components from Hindu traditions - none of which would be antithetical to Catholic beliefs.

This is pretty much a non-issue.

I’d be pretty convinced yoga has a definite effect irrespective of the intention of its practitioners.

That effect being to drive the Holy Spirit out of the soul of that person
 
The Holy Spirit is not “magicked” away by body positions. Mortal sin is the only thing that can drive out the Holy Spirit, and in that, intent is everything.
 
Yoga is invitation to a spiritual reality. They don’t give two hoots about intention.

I’m thinking of children who may just have received Holy Communion. Then engaging in an eastern pagan practice

How that would horrify and repulse the Holy Spirit of God
 
If you’re talking about shakras and spiritual grounding and hello to mother Earth and sun that’s one thing.

Don’t insult St. Francis and compare him to the yogis and the yoga that has lead so many astray. It is beneath you.
 
What about using the pagan Latin language that was also used to honor Jupiter? That same language was adopted by the Roman Catholic Church and used in the liturgy.
