its sad that those who lead the Catholic Church in the Philippines would be so narrow minded. i bet more young people now are flocking to Protestant Churches because of this. read the comments. its really sad. they still act like its the 1600s with the Spanish Inquisition

read the comments of those who cared to react. really sad, and of course they view this as what the entire view of the Catholic Church rather than a few misguided leaders

I agree that this is a sad, and sympathize with many of the comments, but I think this comment sums up my feelings.

The leaders of the Catholic Church here in the Philippines must now change their views. Charity, dear Fathers. Anyway, for those who are cursing the Church, what a Christian act. We must understand that the Church is not a museum for saints but a hospital for sinners. Even it’s leaders are sinners. Will you leave the Church that Christ built because of Judas?

If Catholic students avoid engaging in pre-marital sex, then staying in the school that teaches Catholic values will be their reward and privilege. First off, are these approved apparitions, like Fatima?

Second, even approved apparitions are not REQUIRED beliefs, like dogmata are.

I have searched the web for Mutter Vogel, and can’t find anything in English other than these very bits that you post. Where is the story behind these apparitions? What was the result of the episcopal investigation? What is the Holy See’s opinion?

Without some guidance from, at the very least, the local ordinary at the time, these apparitions are not worthy of belief, and may actually be dangerous to the Faith.

Ghoti, this came only from my Pieta Prayer Booklet, and you’re right the quotes are not online and have no proof of ever being ‘approved’.

Despite this I still believe that errant people, especially priests, should not be attacked nor judged; but respected, prayed for and processed gently for their mistakes until the grace of God returns to them if at all, which is parallel to what the quote is saying.

Next time, will not quote anymore until I find the nihil obstat and/or imprimatur. I usually look for these first before I read materials, but the Pieta Prayer Booklet just looked so safe to read and quote because it has all the familiar prayers in it.

i’m not attacking the priests back home but their mentallity. its the new millenium and they’re still in the middle of the Inquisition. here’s the purpose of Inquisition as stated in Wikipedia

quoniam punitio non refertur primo & per se in correctionem & bonum eius qui punitur, sed in bonum publicum ut alij terreantur, & a malis committendis avocentur. Translation from the Latin: “… for punishment does not take place primarily and per se for the correction and good of the person punished, but for the public good in order that others may become terrified and weaned away from the evils they would commit.”

and thats what they are doing. instead of helping a sinner repent, they make them sacrificial lambs to scare other people into moral behavior. but if people only become moral and good because they are scared of the punishment, what good does that do? i know the intention here is good, but the practice is just wrong. and the end does not justify the means

If Mary the mother of God was a student in a Catholic school in the Philippines today, in all likelihood she would be suspended, expelled or “exiled,” punished for the “crime” of getting pregnant without benefit of marriage.

The thing such students do wrong isn’t getting pregnant but having premarital sex. Still, I feel uneasy about unwed mother students being punished by academic institutions. Love the sinner, hate the sin?

Choy, the Never Attack a Priest thing was meant for the comments on the website you posted. Sorry about that.

Re expelling, I’ll have to agree with TienTjen from the other thread forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=378093&page=2 (no 28 and 29, in particular). I just couldn’t articulate it properly.

Re women’s rights activists, I believe they will learn a lot from Mary’s Fiat. If we are just as humble and united to God’s will, we wouldn’t be self-serving all the time.
