PLease. i would welcome correction. especially if it meant the lives of babies being saved. But where is the evidence that prayer outside an abortion clinic leads to less abortions. Anecdotal aside.
It’s being witnessed every day. There are testimonies everywhere about women completely changing their minds because of the presence. You can call it anecdotal if you like but these are real people with real babies being born. I would be willing to bet the site with Priests for Life, where St. Gabriell’s Project is located has links to stories of hearts being changed.

There’s some powerful changes taking place in the landscape these days. On the spectrum in which you site, but also in the action you were talking against.

Picture this, a 16 year old girl being walked into a clinic for a "procedure’ and a bus load of kids, many girls her own age, are outside the clinic, praying for her and her unborn child. Oh, I think it has meaning and I think it has resulted in much change.

So many young girls are led to believe this is the only way, prayer, fasting and alms giving gives them new hope.

so no hard evidence

i love the miracle stories but fail to see how praying in front of an abortion clinic is more powerful than say praying at home. Both allow the power of prayer to manifest itself.

Just out of curiosity, if people have free will, how will prayer “touch” and change these people that are bent on getting abortions?

It’s called love and compassion which opens and softens hearts. It shows there is another choice if they only reach out.

prayer is important, i just dont see the point in praying outside an abortion clinic. It dosent actually stop abortions and it never wins the hearts and minds of anyone who has already made up their decision on abortion.

Now if you really want to teach kids something have them work hands on with the ministry rather than sit on sidelines praying. Hands on work will probably make their prayer life more rich as they began to understand the social problem from real-world experience.
40 Days for life prays, fasts and holds vigils outside abortion clinics, and has community outreach and following many of those campaigns abortion clinics have shut down and I have read that 4082 - 8012 babies have been saved. Do you think it is a coincidence that abortion clinics shut down and thousands of babies saved and it has nothing to do with what 40 days for life were doing?

There are many stories of people witnessing outside abortion clinics and babies being saved

If you can stand and pray, you can save a baby from abortion: here’s the living proof
Here at the Pro-Life Action League, we put a lot of time and resources into organizing “clinic witness” presence where people stand in prayer outside abortion clinics nationwide. Stories like Maddox’s are why.
Maddox is the adorable baby boy on the left in the photo. The building on the right is where Maddox nearly lost his life.
This is an e-mail I received recently:
Hi, my name is Stacy and I wanted to thank your group for saving my baby. I went to that terrible facility [Planned Parenthood in Aurora, Illinois] on a cold Saturday morning in November, scared to death and the first thing I saw driving in was the pro-life advocates standing in the lawn at 7am.
I went in to the clinic, canceled my appointment, and walked out. I beeped at the group and gave them 2 thumbs up. One thumb for me, one thumb for my baby! My little guy is 16 months old now and a blessing from God. Thank you!
That’s right. Maddox is alive today, and his mother doesn’t have the life-long pain and guilt of an abortion on her shoulders, all because pro-lifers were outside that abortion facility praying.
Nobody talked to her. Nobody waved signs at her. Pro-life people simply stood in witness to the fact that abortion is evil and that all human life is valuable. Their mere presence was enough to change a heart and save a life.

Praying in a closed up room where nobody sees, “go to your inner room and pray in private…” has it’s purpose and holds merit. It has to, that’s how Jesus instructed us to pray. However, in a case like this, public prayer allows the people to physically see the love and compassion of God in the prayers of the faithful who take time out of their lives to be there in person to pray for the “little ones” being aborted and the parents choosing to abort.

Ministry of presence is quite compelling; if you have ever lost a close loved one you know how much it means to have people come in and simply say they are sorry and take a seat in the back of church and just pray. Couldn’t those visitors simply pray for the family at home and know that the prayers are efficacious? Yes, but how would the family of the deceased be comforted in absence?

I spent years praying and counseling outside of mills and have witnessed dozens of turn-arounds. I later ran into one mother who changed her mind and she told me how her baby was doing.

We had a mill worker come outside and tell us to leave because we were hurting their business. Their business is abortion so the prayers and counseling must have had an effect.

A good side-effect of being outside the clinic is that locals and passers-by are informed of the nature of the “women’s health or surgical or whatever clinic” the abortion mill is named.

BTW - just about all of the prayer people and counselors volunteer at or are able to take women and girls to help centers.

Not all women or girls going to the clinics are bent on getting abortions. Some ore being pressured by boyfriends, parents or someone else. Some just are not sure.

Even is one is determined to have an abortion, they have the free will to change their mind.
God can speak to them.

Ah, that is a quite good answer, I was thinking…one dimensionally on that when I asked. Thank you for your reply. 🙂
I see how prayer is much nicer too and showing God’s compassion rather than protestors who scream at women and call them terrible things, I mean, that doesn’t really show kindness towards “enemies” per say, if anything it deters them more from wanting to turn to God right?
There was an abortion clinic around where I lived and there was always protestors yelling and telling them to burn in hell, to kill themselves, how God hates them murderers, etc, etc. I mean, what they are doing is wrong but isn’t that also wrong? I’m kinda having a hard time phrasing what I’m saying but if you want them to see God’s love, even when they aren’t doing something Godly I don’t think that being nasty to them will make the women want to…change? I do see how prayer is so much better, that also will show them and touch them with God’s love perhaps.

On another note, Sorry if I sound “argumentative” on this but there are a few more questions I have.
Like, what if the woman like…can’t birth the baby…like physically, she (and the baby) would die in the process, or suffer mental problems (suicidal, really depressed). I knew someone who was a lockiphobic (one who has a fear of pregnancy) and wound up killing herself because she couldn’t bear the thought(s). Or even if they can, what if they don’t want it, our adoption system is terrible. It seems like a no win situation; she can give birth and suffer possible trauma and still remain Godly (and this is the right way) …even put it up for adoption and hope it’s a good place for them to be. Like if she kept it, I’m not saying this is the case but what if she was abusive…but …I don’t know. Can someone help me out here? 😦

The simple answer is found in Catholic teaching; abortion is intrinsically evil, it can never be used as an option. In the cases you mention, the doctors involved have two patients, mother and child. Both are of equal dignity.

Well of course! I know that part, I’m just talking about the women/people that are not of the Lord in the first place so they do not know/care what our creator has commanded. If they will suffer physical problems/mental problems and haven’t acknowledged God to help them through it then then I guess we can only pray :\

*Have people hovering over me right now, they want me to ask questions regarding this so I might be back later to type them up. 🤷

So I’m back…somewhat…with a question a friend of mine had that I think here is one of the best places to get this type of answer. I’m also kinda curious now that he brought it up…

“Okay, you say both are equal, so what happens when those scenarios come up? What’s “supposed” to happen under Catholic teaching? Is it taught that it’s better to sacrifice the mother’s life in order to save the fetus?”

i hear ya but best way to educate youth is give them hands on experience working with charities like st. Gabriel’s project rather than allowing them to make a political statement that they really don’t understand since teachers are making them do it.

Let kids aid a mother in actually brining life into this world, that is where the learning and winning of hearts and minds will occur.
That sounds like a WONDERFUL ministry! I will have to look that up. I hope this is readily available on Catholic college campuses.

Why would you ask such a question? If they choose the path of sin, God won’t stop it (for now… but we’ll all be judged), but that doesn’t mean that we should accept it.
Ah, that is a quite good answer, I was thinking…one dimensionally on that when I asked.
She was spot-on.
I mean, that doesn’t really show kindness towards “enemies” per say, if anything it deters them more from wanting to turn to God right?
Did Jesus show total kindness to the Pharisees? “You brood of vipers…” When someone is going to kill innocent human life, you can bet that will wind people up.

It’s quite clear to me that a woman doesn’t have that right. She should NOT be able to toss a life away just because she thinks it’ll suffer, she’ll suffer, or she’ll have financial problems. In those times, conditions were worse, and pregnancy more risky, but they didn’t have that mindset. The Assyrians, Sumerians, and Babylonians had laws which forbade abortion. Evidently, the Assyrians impaled women on stakes for attempting abortion. Anybody looking at what has been written knows that the Bible doesn’t condone abortion.

“Against Apion”, Flavius Josephus

“The law, moreover, enjoins us to bring up all our offspring, and forbids women to cause abortion of what is begotten, or to destroy it afterward; and if any woman appears to have so done, she will be a murderer of her child, by destroying a living creature, and diminishing human kind.”

“Sibylline Oracles”, Section: Punishment of the Wicked, Book II

“345 And all who loosed the girdle of the maid for secret intercourse, and all who caused abortions, and all who their offspring cast unlawfully away;”

“The Special Laws”, Book III, Philo of Alexandria

“But if anyone has a contest with a woman who is pregnant, and strike her a blow on her belly, and she miscarry, if the child which was conceived within her is still unfashioned and unformed, he shall be punished by a fine, both for the assault which he committed and also because he has prevented nature, who was fashioning and preparing that most excellent of all creatures, a human being, from bringing him into existence. But if the child which was conceived had assumed a distinct shape in all its parts, having received all its proper connective and distinctive qualities, he shall die; for such a creature as that is a man, whom he has slain while still in the workshop of nature, who had not thought it as yet a proper time to produce him to the light, but had kept him like a statue lying in a sculptor’s workshop, requiring nothing more than to be released and sent out into the world.”

Praise to God! This is exactly what Pope Francis is asking for. He wants our feet to get dirty and preach the Gospel. The Good News is that God has something better for those women considering abortion. Life not only for their unborn child but life for themselves.
My prayers,
mlz

But where is the evidence that prayer outside an abortion clinic leads to less abortions. Anecdotal aside.
How would researchers identify the women who did not get an abortion? Would it be likely to get a statistically representative sample?

I have to wonder if the study you are asking for is even possible.
