If you decide not to go, would you be able to sell it to someone else?
OP, I’d check into this and see if you can get your money out of it. Just for information, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t go on the cruise anyway. You never know, you could meet your “Mister Right” there!

OTOH, it’s easy to drink too much where the wine and beer are free…so be careful.

Maybe I’m just too cynical, but I thought that the point of singles cruises was to get away from home, get liquored up, and have casual flings. I really can’t imagine anyone going on a singles cruise as a way to possibly meet a serious partner. I mean, you will be on vacation with people from all over the country. No one wants anything serious, just sex.

FYI, on most cruise ships, the beer and wine are not free – cruises are not all-inclusive. Usually your coffee and tea and juices are free, but all other beverages (including soft drinks) cost extra. All of the major cruise lines are that way – Princes, Norwegian, Royal Caribbean, and Carnival. There may be some that are all-inclusive that I’m not aware of.

Man or woman on a cruise ship alone is not a good idea. If as a woman you don’t want to meet a man, not going on the cruise will assist in that. If as a man you don’t want to get into some nonsense, skip it as well. Together, blissful (maybe).

Don’t expect to meet anyone special. But you can still have fun on this kind of cruise without getting into spiritual trouble. Just watch your alcohol consumption and don’t be alone with any creepy people. I mean, you can go to bars or clubs without ending up in big moral trouble, right? That’s basically what this could be for you.

Oh! I thought wine and beer were included, but mixed drinks were extra. Learned something new today! You can tell I’ve never been on a cruise!

😊

Me neither, maybe some are inclusive and some aren’t.

there are some like Dr. Charle Stanley who have cruises, and some churches go to the Holy Land, just a thought.

I wouldn’t go on one by myself, but thats me, find out if you can get a refund just in case. I would feel ill at ease being around a bunch of single men and wearing a baby suit even when I was in my 20’s.

What’s a baby suit?

To OP – and any who are interested: I know that Ave Maria Singles puts on cruises and other trips. They will put you with a roommate (of like gender if you’d like – or you can pay more for a single). That way you’re with a group of like-minded Catholics but it might make you feel a little more secure if you’re wanting to go by yourself. I know they have a priest that goes with them, and I think they have opportunities for Adoration.

I’ve never been on one of their trips – I went on one of their retreats, and it was fabulous!!! One of the ladies I met at the retreat was going on their Alaskan cruise, and she really enjoyed herself.

So just an option I thought I’d throw out there.

I went on three of these Ave Maria Cruises, and I was impressed. These are the only times I have been on a cruise. If you go by yourself you can go “pot luck” on a roommate who is part of the tour. You can also ask a single sex friend to go with you, and you can share a room together.

I still keep in touch with people that I met on these cruises. It’s a good way to mingle with “like minded” people, and you can go on excursions together, as well as have dinner, etc.

I do know people who met their spouse on these trips. One trip had two marriages two years later. One cruise I arranged to meet some people before going, which made the transition easier too.

Ave Maria Singles normally uses Norwegian as the cruise line, and books a 7 day cruise. Norwegian made some rooms available in advance on the ship for Ave Maria Singles to use for Adoration, Mass, and Confession. The founder even appeared in one of the talent shows (he’s a guitarist) on the 2009 Cruise, and the priest did a public Mass on the ship Saturday evening. I appreciated Norwegian providing this type of service.

Norwegian also has dining rooms where cruisers are not assigned the same place (or the same table) to eat every night. This is more conducive for a group setting, as it allows interaction with others.

The next Ave Maria Cruise is in January 2013. It is the 10th Annual Carribbean Cruise. If you go to their website, you can find the link.

Mely 2020:

My knowledge of other cruise lines is limited, because I have only gone on Norwegian, and I have only taken 7 day trips. Others tell me the 3 day trips are really short, because by the time you get used to the boat, it’s time to go home. So, I recommend at least a 5 day trip.

I know Norwegian plans some “singles mingles” and “meet and greets” for those traveling by themselves. I didn’t attend these because I was with a group. Other cruise lines may have these too.

Norwegian would also deliver a daily newsletter to your state room, with a list of activities for the day, and what ports you could go into for shore excursions. The shore excursions were fun too, and since they are organized by the cruise line, they will get you back to the ship within a reasonable amount of time.

I’ve heard very positive feedback from Royal Carribbean and Princess, and I have liked Norwegian. I would like to try a Mexican Riviera Cruise sometime on Princess that leaves out of San Diego or Los Angeles. I’ve heard good things about Celebrity, which is a smaller line.

One cruise line I’ve heard many “mixed reviews” is Carnival. Some tell me it’s the “party boat”, but IMHO, I think some of it depends on the itinerary and what time of the year to go.

As far as other groups besides Ave Maria Singles, I am aware that some universities set up cruises for alumni and singles. A few years ago, two friends of mine went on one that was combined with four different universities, and the age range was 22-40.

I don’t know if you purchased travel insurance…if you did and decided not to go, you can get some kind of a refund.

Mely 2020, have a good time on your trip, and I assure you that your ship will not end up like the S.S. Minnow.

I hope I was able to give you some help.

So far I’ve been on Royal Caribbean, Princess, Norwegian, and Carnival.

I personally don’t like the freestyle dining (what Norwegian does.) I like having the same table and dinner mates all through the cruise. But it might work better for a group traveling together (like the AMS cruises) as it allows for people to mix and mingle better.

Princess is great, but it is a bit pricier. My favorite cruise line is Royal Caribbean. It’s a good mix of classy with reasonable prices.

Carnival is great if you think of it as a weekend get-away type cruise. Now, I’ve never been on one of their really big ships and done a great destination like Europe or Alaska. I’ve only done a four or five-day Caribbean on Carnival, and it is a party boat – because they’re usually cheaper than the other cruise lines.

Overall, cruising is a great deal for the money – you get to see a bunch of different places in a short amount of time and only have to unpack once. All of your food is included in your trip so (depending on what kind of cabin you get) your average is about $100 a day which is what you’d probably pay for just a hotel room on a regular vacation. Of course, the excursions are extra and can add up quickly so budget accordingly.

I could go on and on about cruising but I don’t want to get too far afield of the OP’s question. If anyone has specific questions about cruising, I’m happy to answer them in a PM.

Go and have a good time. Keep your alcohol comsumption at near zero and don’t give out any personal information, you don’t want anyone showing up on your doorstep two months later!

Sometimes these speciality cruises are just a large group that is booked as a unit on a ship that also has other cruisers that are not with the group. If that’s the case here, then there will be other cruisers who are not in the ‘singles’ group.

I’ve been on three cruises, one four day one that was wild with a lot of dangeously drunk younger people, and two quieter ones (1 nine days, 1 twelve days) that were mostly older folks. In general, the longer the cruise, the older the age group will be on the ship. A lot of the older folks are single too, you know, due to divorce or being widowed. So, it doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s going to be filled with wild people wanting to ‘hook up’.

I agree with the person who suggested the cruisecritic site. They are very nice over there, an can give you a lot of good information about what to expect.

That’s a good point. It’s probably also best to go on a cruise that is not departing during Spring Break time, if you have any option to change the date, OP.

Hello Everyone,

I have booked a singles cruise ship for the Caribbean 2 months ago, I haven’t taken a real vacation for more than 2 years, I wanted to do something different (since all of my friends are either married, can’t get out of the country, or they can’t afford). As time has passed by, I been hearing that a lot of people go on singles cruise ships to hook up and have flings. Now I am scared of going because I don’t want been surrounded by this kind of behavior. Since I am 27, I can be naive, and going alone I can be a target. I’ll rather lose the money and don’t go, than going and doing something stupid and later regretting later.
Any thoughts or advice?
I’ve done a couple singles cruises and yes there are those who go to hook up and then there are the rest who just go to have a fun relaxing time and aren’t looking for anymore than that. Usually those groups find each other easily so just hang out with the group that is there to have fun and relax instead of just there to hook up. Almost anytime you take a group vacation some singles or otherwise there maybe those who are looking for strickly a vacation romance or affair. Not sure I understand why but it seems to happen again just hang out with folk that are there to enjoy the vacation venue.

I’ll add to that that it’s nice to go on a cruise where not everyone is couples. When you’re single, it can sometimes feel like you’re a third wheel; and when you go with a group of singles, you can feel like you fit in.

As Luvz said, there will be those who are only looking to hook up – I would suggest that’s true no matter what activity you engage in. But you could also find some new friends who have similar interests; and since they’re single, you could find some new travel buddies for future trips. I’m blessed in that I have a core group of single female friends who enjoy traveling so I usually can find someone to go on vacation with. Before I met them, I found myself going off by myself because everybody else was married and they didn’t want to go off on vacation without their husbands.
