Queensland, May 16, 2008 / 02:30 am (CNA).- A Catholic student group at the University of Queensland has been censored and threatened with disaffiliation from the school’s student union because student union leaders believed the group’s “pro-woman” and “pro-pregnancy” campaign took a stand against abortion.
As part of a pregnancy support campaign, the Newman Society at the school displayed a poster and distributed leaflets that bore a photo of an eight-week old fetus in the womb.
According to The Australian, a disciplinary hearing run by the student union’s clubs and societies committee has banned the Newman Society from again displaying the material on a booth outside the student café. The society was placed on 12 months’ probation and must submit all future material to three officials, including the student union president, for approval.

How stupid! I hope the Newman Society sues the school and wins or something.

This is awful. The liberals really don’t believe in freedom of expression, that was just a ruse to allow them to create porn and indecent art and to introduce crazy liberal ideas like abortion and euthanasia and forced sterilization and forced abortion 😦

Well if they won’t tolerate us, they won’t get any more tolerance from me. I’ve had it.

The last sentence in the article you posted says this:

In the ACSA statement, she said, “university can be a time when young women might be faced with the difficult challenge of an unplanned pregnancy. Those women not only deserve compassion, but also support.” :amen:

Those who are pro-death (pro-choice on killing babies), sure don’t*** really ***want to support the woman at all, otherwise they would agree that is when women need their support and compassion the most just as that article says.

There have been numerous cases in the United States where students, including high school students, have gone to or threatened to go over to court over their shool’s refusal to alllow them to have such organizations or even to wear shirts with pro-life sayings, and the school has lost the case or quickly reversed its position simply before such a legal threat. Such people do not like having their action coming out into public light. In fact, there are groups that provide free legal help for such students. I hope this is the case in this country too. Stopping it in this case can mean that numerous other school groups and school heads in the same country that otherwise would proceed to do the same sort of thing will fail to go forward in the same way, however much they would like to. I agree, and the courts in the US have agreed, that such orders to students in this sort of matter are a violation of a fundamental human right to free speech.

I agree. I personally don’t think liberals should be tolerated at all by Catholics. Sure, we have to tolerate their existence but we don’t have to tolerate their sickening ideals.

I hope I am misunderstanding you. Are you saying that pro-lifers don’t truly care about the woman? If so, I strongly disagree with you. Pro-lifers certainly do care about the woman and have done many things to help the pregnant woman. Just take a look at a crisis pregnancy center. See how they provide free or low cost clothing for the the woman and child? And look at some Catholic charities that help the woman to raise the child and/or put the child up for adoption! Pro-lifers are definitely compassionate towards women. We do not view the child as worth more than the woman.
The LifeSite article about this incident has some email addresses and telephone numbers, if anyone wishes to voice support for the Newman Society or opposition to the action against them.

Thank you. I cannot donate to the Newman Society but I might just drop them an encouraging note in their e-mail. 🙂

Holly, you are definately misunderstanding me. Read this part again. **Those who are pro-death (pro-choice on killing babies), sure don’t really want to support the woman at all, **otherwise they would agree that is when women need their support and compassion the most just as that article says. I think its a contradiction in terms for PRO-DEATH people to say that they care about anyone when they don’t even care about innocent babies in their mother’s wombs.
