The NJ High School teacher, Patricia Jannuzzi who was suspended from Immaculate Conception H.S. for upholding Catholic Church teaching has been reinstated to her position.

Thank God!

Lord Jesus Christ have mercy on us and our country.

Her facebook post was not something that upheld the Catholic teaching of marriage. The Church does not teach that homosexuality is a choice. Nor does She teach that homosexuals are attempting to bring about the extinction of Western Civilization. In case there’s anybody that didn’t actually read her post, here it is. You can agree with her but to say she is affirming Church teaching is ridiculous. Seems the school agrees with me on this. There’s also the issue that many claimed she was fired, she was on paid administrative leave.

She is certainly entitled to her fringe views, but should not get fired for them. I image the reason for the administration leave was to examine her reasoning and judgement may effect her teaching ability.

I agree 100%, I’m glad she’s back at work. From what I read, she did not bring those views into the classroom.

More than anything I am speaking in support of the school and the Bishop. I saw a lot of misleading articles and comments about this. One that bothered me the most were the ads which were critical of the Bishop that were run by The Lepanto Institute on right wing radio. That crossed a line in my opinion. I think it’s safe to say that the accusations that the teacher was fired and it was covered up can now be considered paranoid (nj.com/somerset/index.ssf/2015/03/radio_ad_accuses_bishop_of_covering_up_firing_of_n.html)

The school and the Bishop did the right thing as far as I can tell. Whatever side we are on with gay rights, we need to remain rational, regardless how we perceive the “other side”.

While I’m glad she is reinstated, I understand the administrations reaction and appreciate their due process. In my line of work, my employer asks (demands) that we be guarded and mindful that social media reaches out to fellow staff, clients, and the public. What I post or not post can be misunderstood, twisted, or out right offend someone. That’s even when I post up the unvarnished truth of my beliefs.

Not trying to quash free speech, but one has to be mindful of the impact. Set up an alter ego FB page to push open discussion of touchy issues in a fair and respectfuly manner. No to alter ego spewing of hate and overstatements.

I’m not glad. Forget about what she thinks about homosexual people (even though she’s beyond wrong), she is apparently, at best, semi-literate. And I’m being charitable. That’s what should have gotten her suspended. Or dismissed.

Is this who you want teaching your children?

Great piece on this incident from Catholic Culture:
Do you count it as a victory that Patricia Jannuzzi is back in the classroom? I don’t.
It’s a good thing, certainly, that the Catholic-school teacher who was suspended for her Facebook criticism of homosexual activists has been reinstated. I’m happy for her, and for the many good people who supported her. A gross injustice has been partially—partially—corrected.

I see nothing wrong with saying that “we need healthy families with a mother and a father for the sake of the children and for humanity.” It’s a truism. As for western civilization, it is quite apparent that it has been on a downhill slide ever since the sexual revolution.

Ms. Januzzi was subjected to a ferocious backlash not for opposing homosexual persons, but for opposing homosexual activists. A Catholic school teacher with 30 years tenure can speak out against many things, but not, apparently against a homosexual activist agenda. Students would have been petitioning to retain her had she been suspended for being in a same sex marriage. But speaking against the agenda of gay activists—well, that’s the only mortal sin remaining, isn’t it?

👍 Agreed. That is why I am glad to see Catholic Culture pipe up here.

Here’s another gem about Cardinal Sarah. This one in my view should get a standing ovation. Have you seen this? (it is related more or less - the Church colliding with modern cultural values or lack thereof and trying to be nice about it)

Thanks for the link. I can’t help but post a quote:

“On the question of marriage, there is a chasm between a certain world and the Church. The question is ultimately very simple: is it the world that must change its attitude, or the Church its fidelity to God? Because if the faithful still love the Church and the pope, but do not apply its doctrine, not changing anything in their lives, not even after coming to listen to the successor of Peter in Rome, what kind of future should we expect?”
No matter how pervasive the permissiveness of the present age, no matter how much one does not wish to offend an increasingly corrupt culture, the Church can and must remain faithful to Christ.

Look, this is someone who claims that gay people “want to reengineer western civ into a slow extinction.” That’s ridiculous.

This is also someone who utterly fails to grasp what the 14th Amendment to the Constitution is, and what it means.

This is someone who can’t string a sentence together.

Whenever anyone starts talking about “them” and their “agenda,” I know nothing worthwhile is going to be said.

If this woman were a teacher at my child’s school, I’d be unhappy. Not because she’s opposed to the legalization of same-sex marriage – she’s entitled to her opinion – but because she comes across as bigoted and hateful, she doesn’t understand what homosexuality is, and (most importantly), because she is obviously (regardless of the content of her speech) very nearly illiterate. Has this woman ever read a book in her life? How did she qualify to be a teacher?

Ms. Januzzi in her Facebook post was reacting to a comment by Dan Savage. Posting anything at all on Facebook is not something I would recommend, least of all by a teacher, but it’s hardly a hanging offense.

I don’t agree that it is a homosexual agenda to re-engineer western civilization into a slow extinction. That process was already well underway with the advent of the sexual revolution, beginning with contraception, well before the gay marriage train ever left the station, and from which it benefited.

Perhaps if one were to ask the authors of the 14th Amendment whether or not they understood it to authorize same sex marriage, it might well be that they did not understand the amendment either. Nor, apparently did those who voted to ratify it, as it would likely have failed if that had been the understanding.

In any case, some additional insight as to who Ms. Januzzi is can be found here She was given the Regina Nostra medal by the Bishop of Metuchen in 2012, a student reporter noting at the time that “because of her love and devotion to Immaculata High School and the parish, Mrs. Patricia Jannuzzi was the ideal nominee for the award.”
