If that is the case, why does the Vatican continue supporting the UN?

I think the UN is short for “united nations.” That’s not a world government, but a coalition of local governments.

At the same time, I thought Catholic teaching absolutely advocates a world government. What is the “Kingdom of God” if not a monarchy encompassing the entire world with one ruler, God, at its head? Maybe I should read the full article more closely.

Vatican City is the only sovereign state with general international recognition that is not a UN member (the Holy See, which holds sovereignty over the state of Vatican City and maintains diplomatic relations with other states, is a UN permanent observer, by choice).

“Furthermore, such an authority would need to be universally recognized and to be vested with the effective power to ensure security for all, regard for justice, and respect for rights. Obviously it would have to have the authority to ensure compliance with its decisions from all parties, and also with the coordinated measures adopted in various international forums.”

I really wish they would just stick to faith and morals. Do anyone really believe such a powerful entity would be so benevolent?

And when they don’t ensure “security…regard justice, and respect…rights” will the vatican encourage their overthrow?
