These are the Catholic Ten Commandments…
  1. I am the Lord, your God. You shall have no other gods besides Me.
  2. You shall not take the name of the Lord, your God, in vain.
  3. Remember to keep holy the Sabbath day.
  4. Honor your father and your mother.
  5. You shall not kill.
  6. You shall not commit adultery.
  7. You shall not steal.
  8. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.9. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife.
  9. You shall not covet anything that belongs to your neighbor.
These are the actual Ten Commandments given by the Lord our God explained in Exodus 20 see for youself in King James version and many other versions of the bible.

1 And God spake all these words, saying,
2 I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
3 (1st com) Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

4 ***(2nd com) Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
7 (3rd com) Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

8 (4th com) Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
12 (5th com) Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

13 (6th com) Thou shalt not kill.
14 (7th com) Thou shalt not commit adultery.
15 (8th com) Thou shalt not steal.
16 (9th com) Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

17 ***(10th com) Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ***, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s.

18 And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off…

Now these are the words of God almighty witten in his scriptures that he has given to us. So why is it that you catholics have Omitted the 2nd Commandment, replaced it with the 3rd Commandment, and split up the 10th commandment into two parts and making it into 9 and 10 commandments. Your Church is changing the word of our GOD to suit all of your statues and Graven Images of Christ!!! Is God’s word not sufficient for your chruch? Those who bow before these idols may God have mercy on your souls. Has anyone seen a true picture of Jesus? Then why make for yourself this Graven Images of Him. You are all truly being deceived!

No need to work yourself into such a fret, my friend. The Church never eliminated the command against making graven images of idols–that is what the Lord is commanding here, not that no images can be made ever of anything, but only ones of the “gods,” such as those worshiped by the Egyptians and other pagans.

Secondly, Catholics include, not exclude the prohibition against making idols into the 1st commandment. All Protestants have done is number the commandments differently. So, no one has “changed God’s word,” but merely numbered the commandments differently.

We do not worship idols when we use statues to represent holy persons from Jesus to Mary to any of the saints. They are merely tools for prayer and devotion and not required to adorn any church or home.

For Catholics worship is not worship without a sacrifice, as it is in the Bible. You will notice that whenever there is worship in the OT or NT a sacrifice is being offered. We do not offer sacrifices to statues or paintings or mosaics or other forms of artwork. We only offer the one sacrifice of Christ re-presented on our altars as a part of the worship of God in the Mass.

And please, do read up on what Catholics actually believe before roaring onto a Catholic forum and accusing us of sin. It’s not very conducive to good understanding nor is it fair to us or to you. Thank you. 🙂

These are the Catholic Ten Commandments…
I. I AM THE LORD THY GOD, THOU SHALT NOT HAVE strange gods BEFORE ME.

Pentecostalism - Idolatry - Power - Communism - Atheism - Humanism - Cults

II. THOU SHALT NOT TAKE THE NAME OF THE LORD THY GOD IN VAIN.

Cursing - Blasphemy - Satanism - Pride - Lack of Self-discipline - Abusive discrediting to another man

III. REMEMBER THOU KEEP HOLY THE SABBATH DAY.

“In order to truly Honor God and to be aware of Him, it was necessary to tell man that a given time had to be set aside frequently to do this. God, in delivering this Commandment, announced to Moses, ‘Without this Rule men would not be able to hold up as a goal, the other nine.’ God meant this time to be union with Him in a special manner, perhaps with a small sacrifice attached to complete this union.

God, at a later time, gave man incentive to spend more time with Him. Through His Son He gave to the world a specific Church and that Beautiful Sacrament, the Holy Eucharist, Which is without doubt a Part of Him. It was God Himself who completed the final need for man to be able to obey and love this great Commandment.”

Not attending Holy Mass on days set down to fulfill this obligation to God.

The discipline of a specific day and time is necessary because of man’s need for such discipline.

IV. HONOR THY FATHER AND THY MOTHER.

Disobedience - Disrespect - Neglect - Impatience - Abuse

V. THOU SHALT NOT KILL.

To kill is to rob man of the great privilege reserved for God alone. Only God has the right to judge when the physical must end.”

Physical - Will - Love - Trust - Hope - Faith - Gifts of Talent - Abortion - Moral Standards - Spirit - Mind

VI. THOU SHALT NOT COMMIT ADULTERY.

Impurity - attack through the senses, lack of self-discipline, permissiveness, self-love.

Promiscuity - encouraging men to act without dignity, degrading the purpose of human intimate relationship.

Self-abuse - physically, mentally, emotionally. Mental abuse causes grave sins, sometimes grave intention for sin, permitting the intellect to become so permeated with sinful thoughts that men sin consistently and it weakens them in every way.

Homosexuality - Lesbianism

VII. THOU SHALT NOT STEAL.

“To steal means, to most men, to take a material thing that belongs to another. In reality, there are many facets to stealing. First, many men steal the dignity and respect that The Holy Trinity must have, that The Beloved Heavenly Queen must have, and that all men must have for the Church of My Choice.

Time - Will - Pride - Physical Energies - Material Wealth - Patience - Talents - Hope - Dignity

VIII. THOU SHALT NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS AGAINST THY NEIGHBOR.

Gossip - Slander - Lying - Defamation of Character - Hating

IX. THOU SHALT NOT COVET THY NEIGHBOR’S WIFE.

“To covet, whether it be by grave intention or full action, what belongs in the procreative plan, will be answerable in more depth than men will want to believe. What men do to restrict, corrupt or eliminate the beauty I have planned for man and woman in the role of the physical life, must be held accountable to Me, for I have made man to My Image and Likeness, and all things must remain in the beauty I have designed and in the Plan I had in mind. No man must allow his thinking or lack of self-discipline to cause weakness in himself or another who belongs to another. No woman is permitted to intrude or invite such a sin against Me.”

Adultery - Temptation through thought, word and deed.

X. THOU SHALT NOT COVET THY NEIGHBOR’S GOODS.

“This Rule applies first to all I have created, for I Am The Lord Of All Things.

Stealing - Time, Talents, Material Wealth.

Usury - Through subterfuge - denying a man his rightful property, position and acclaim.

In many instances, the Torah refers to details not included in the written text, thus alluding to an oral tradition. Thus, the Torah states, “You shall slaughter your cattle… as I have commanded you” (Deut. 12:21), implying an oral commandment concerning ritual slaughter (shechitah).

Similarly, such commandments as tefillin and tzitzit are found in the Torah, but no details are given, and they are assumed to be in the Oral Torah. Although observing Shabbat is one of the Ten Commandments, no details are given as to how it should be kept, and these are also in the unwritten tradition. God thus said, “You shall keep Shabbat holy, as I have commanded your fathers” (Jeremiah 17:22).

The source document Catholics use for the 10 commandments is the bible. I suggest you get a copy of a Catholic bible and look up the 10 commandments in there. You will see that there have been no changes made. You are taking commentaries and unauthorative sources out of context and coming up with wrong conclusions. But don’t feel bad that happens a lot there have been a lot of Protestant groups that have done that in error.

So quite simply I am redirecting you to the source document. You may also want to get a copy of the Catechism of the Catholic Church and read it within the context in which it was written. Both the Catechism of the Catholic Church and a Catholic Bible can be found on line.

It makes me sad that you have gotten such bad information. Your facts are totally wrong.

Sometimes at night I kneel down at the foot of my bed and say prayers. Some people might see that and think I am bowing down to my bed and worshipping my bed! I am not. So don’t jump to conclusions about things. I don’t know where you got the idea that Catholics worship images - they don’t.

There’s an expression we have for something like all the laws of shabbat, which are essentially based on that one line (remember the sabbath…)…
The rabbis referred to this as a “mountain of halacha suspended by a thread of Torah” (halacha = law).

The catholic bible today is NOT the original text from the days that in Rome used. Actually the bible we have today is a translated from Martin Luther that the Roman Catholics used to teach from but didn’t allow the everyday person to read and said it was for only the saints. Read your own church history. So the Luther translated bible is what the catholics used until the lies were exposed. Thus changing of gods word to suit MANS needs and desires. The reason you have your statues is to make it Easier to worship and to have those “Tools” to worship. The ONLY “Tool” you need is Gods word and his word alone not images and statues! But I guess you are too versed in the lies that have been passed to you all.

Here’s another way you could make your point. “Cahtolicism works for you. It doesn’t work for me.”

Utter nonsense. The official Catholic Bible never was some version cooked up by Luther. There were German translations long before Luther was even born! I’m afraid it is YOU who don’t know real Church history.

And do lose the attitude if you truly want to understand what Catholics believe. You are simply wrong about all of this–it is YOU who have been sadly deceived, and denied the fullness of the Faith of Christ. 😦

Hebrews 11 encourages us to emulate the heroes of the Old Testament and in the Old Testament “Women received their dead by resurrection. Some were tortured, refusing to accept release, that they might rise again to a better life” (Heb. 11:35).
There are a couple of examples of women receiving back their dead by resurrection in the Protestant Old Testament. You can find Elijah raising the son of the widow of Zarepheth in 1 Kings 17, and you can find his successor Elisha raising the son of the Shunammite woman in 2 Kings 4, but one thing you can never find—anywhere in the Protestant Old Testament, from front to back, from Genesis to Malachi—is someone being tortured and refusing to accept release for the sake of a better resurrection. If you want to find that, you have to look in the Catholic Old Testament—in the deuterocanonical books Martin Luther cut out of his Bible. The story is found in 2 Maccabees 7, where we read that during the Maccabean persecution,

The group of Jews which met at Javneh became the dominant group for later Jewish history, and today most Jews accept the canon of Javneh. However, some Jews, such as those from Ethiopia, follow a different canon which is identical to the Catholic Old Testament and includes the seven deuterocanonical books (cf. Encyclopedia Judaica, vol. 6, p. 1147).
Needless to say, the Church disregarded the results of Javneh. First, a Jewish council after the time of Christ is not binding on the followers of Christ. Second, Javneh rejected precisely those documents which are foundational for the Christian Church—the Gospels and the other documents of the New Testament. Third, by rejecting the deuterocanonicals, Javneh rejected books which had been used by Jesus and the apostles and which were in the edition of the Bible that the apostles used in everyday life—the Septuagint
The Reformation Attack on the BibleThe deuterocanonicals teach Catholic doctrine, and for this reason they were taken out of the Old Testament by Martin Luther and placed in an appendix without page numbers. Luther also took out four New Testament books—Hebrews, James, Jude, and Revelation—and put them in an appendix without page numbers as well. These were later put back into the New Testament by other Protestants, but the seven books of the Old Testament were left out. Following Luther they had been left in an appendix to the Old Testament, and eventually the appendix itself was dropped

Really? Wow! Can you give me the reference on where you got this idea?

Where will I find our church history that teaches this? I assume you have read some Catholic document that substantiates this since you are referring us to that so please give us some better information.
So the Luther translated bible is what the catholics used until the lies were exposed. Thus changing of gods word to suit MANS needs and desires. The reason you have your statues is to make it Easier to worship and to have those “Tools” to worship.
What is wrong with making using things easier to worship God? Am I missing something? Is there some source document that says we should make it hard to worship God?
The ONLY “Tool” you need is Gods word and his word alone not images and statues! But I guess you are too versed in the lies that have been passed to you all.
Where do we find God’s Word? The bible tells us that the Word Was Made Flesh and dwelt among us" So I would think we would need to get God’s Word from the Church as Jesus taught.

Now for a very honest question - you have some very serious misconceptions about the Catholic Church. Have you read the Catechism? I suggest you start and then if you have questions come back to us. Please don’t attack what you don’t know…

Actually, there are more like 14 or 15 “commandments” listed in that excerpt from Exodus 20 and Deuteronomy 5. They have just commonly been refered to as the Ten Commandments. Pick up your Bible and look it up. I’ve never read,“Commandment One:… Commandment Two:… Commandment Three:…” have you??

However, the word “Ten Commandments” are in the Bible itself.

**

Exodus 34:28

28 So he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he neither ate bread nor drank water. And He wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments.

Deuteronomy 4:13

13 So He declared to you His covenant which He commanded you to perform, the Ten Commandments; and He wrote them on two tablets of stone.

Deuteronomy 10:4

4 And He wrote on the tablets according to the first writing, the Ten Commandments, which the LORD had spoken to you in the mountain from the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly; and the LORD gave them to me.

**

And so if Moses called them 10 commandments, it is safe to say that the Israelites has a numbering given by either God or Moses. And that is the grouping then that should remain since it is the original intended by God.

This sounds like a Commandment
1 Thus saith the Lord God: The gate of the inner court that looketh toward the east, shall be shut the six days, on which work is done; but on the sabbath day it shall be opened, yea and on the day of the new moon it shall be opened.

God gave many commandments, and we should obey them. Talking about every other commandment outside the ten commandments are not relavent to the discussion. The topic of the thread is the 10 commandments, known as the Moral Law, and as the ten commandments since the time of Moses as indicated by scripture. So, if Moses knew them as the , 10 commandments, then how did Moses group them?

Lutherans number the Ten Commandments the same way that Catholics do. Most other Protestants (and the Orthodox?) number it the other way. Are you a Zwinglian by chance?

No distinction? Of course there is. Did you mistype? That verse is not equating the new moon with the sabbath. It is saying that on the day of the new meen, the gate shall also be opened.
