Catholic vs. Lutheran Mass

That’s not quite true. The following churches that are not in communion with the Catholic Church have valid Masses (though many don’t call it “Mass”, of course):

Eastern Orthodox Church
Oriental Orthodox Church
Assyrian Church of the East
Ancient Church of the East

And western groups such as…

Old Catholic Church
Polish National Catholic Church
And other groups like the SSPX, etc.

Well, what I mean, literally, was the mass. The mass. Not something else. And the SSPX does offer masses. They do “have” the mass.

Paul73, I would advice you to try hard to look for other catholics living near your locality and then form some sort of communion with them like sharing the word of God, saying the rosary together for example (it is October) and other catholic activity. You may even form a small catholic community if such system can work where you are and then you may be able to attract the attention of the church for the Mass to be said near where you are even if there is no the actual building of the Church yet. Alternatively, if at all possible in several hours to get to where the Church is on Sunday please try hard. I have lived in similar circumstances in the past. Pray for God to bring the Mass to where you are or for you to be able to go where the Mass is. It is that important. But I advice you against going to no-catholic services in place of the Mass.

Christ himself established the only one true Church here on earth(UNIVERSAL CHURCH)… why would anyone want to go else where to be in communion with him??? why i asked you???

Can anyone find me a link or somewhere to find out the differences between all Christian Faiths, so I can see the differnce of how each mass goes? When I was in Rehab, I was forced to go to a Methedist service, because the program was associated with that Church, It felt so wrong for me to be there. There was a woman as the Pastor, and guitar music. Also I think they only did communion every other week or so, If I remember correctly, because I wasn’t paying too much attention at the service. The only thing about it, was that I got to prayto the Lord in some kind of chapel, and it is my understanding that all Christians have the same God.

I’ve wondered why (some?) Lutherans refer to their liturgy as “Mass” when the English term developed from the dismissal of the Latin liturgy: “Ite missa est.”

Can you explain? Was the Lutheran liturgy ever in Latin?

If they use the term “Mass,” it is because they are just borrowing Catholic terminology. I think the term “liturgy” may be more appropriate for Lutheran and Catholic discussions.

There are some Lutherans who use a lot of the OF Mass, which of course is Latin-based. Lutheranism seems to be confined to the Germanic tongues; at least I think it was until Vatican II but I’m sure there are exceptions.

I asked since the question since hn160, a Lutheran, in post #8, referred to the “Lutheran Mass.” I hope he answers.

Okay, fair enough. I guess I just prefer to emphasize that on a Sacramental level, the Mass and the Divine Liturgy are the same thing.

And the SSPX does offer masses. They do “have” the mass.

Luther’s changes to the liturgy were inherently conservative. He retained the Ordinary of the Mass and the Propers for each specific day of the church year. While he encouraged the use of vernacular for services he did not require it and some 200 years after Luther’s death some Lutheran churches still used Latin on high holy days - including Bach’s own church in Leipzig.
