And protestant theology constantly evolves - they just make it up as they go. The protestants of today hold beliefs that would shock the reformers. The “fundamentalist” ideas are only a hundred years old.
Hi,

I agree that their are some protestant churches out there that are falling into the hands of the liberals. But, the CC has evolved also. Fundamentalists get their ideas straight from the bible. Some of them take it a little too legalistic but at least their following biblical principles.👍 Which is more than I can say for our world today. The bootm line is that a church can teach the truth but it is up to the individual to follow it. I would guess their to be very few REAL, TRUE CHRISTIANS(I mean who give up their fleshly desires and follow Christ) out there. I mean in ALL denoms protestant or catholic alike. There are MANY MANY MANY protestants and catholics who do not walk the walk they only talk the talk.😦

Really? Let’s see…

So far, you’ve called me an “imbecille”, “illiterate”, and “redneck”.
PLEASE GIVE ME A POST # WHERE I STATE THAT:)
You’ve claimed that our pastors and preachers dictate God’s word.
I ASKED IF THAT WAS THE CASE…I DONT KNOW WHAT BAPTISTS DO🙂 (“your authority is the word of God…so you rely on the bible only and whatever yoour pastor says the bible says??”)

You’ve claimed that we’re not saved.
ONCE AGAIN THAT WAS NOT ME…PLEASE PROVIDE A POST # WHERE I SAY THAT!

You’ve claimed that we do not believe the church has any authority.
I THINK THAT WAS YOU THAT SAID THAT.
You’ve claimed that our celebration of communion is “shallow and meaningless”.
WHERE DID I STATE YOUR “LAST SUPPER” WAS MEANINGLESS AND SHALLOW…PLEASE PROVIDE A POST #
You’ve claimed that we only pray for two minutes a day.
ONCE AGAIN THAT WAS NOT ME…PLEASE PROVIDE A POST # WHERE I SAY THAT!

You’ve claimed that we’re divided (although, when asked, you can’t give an example of even one essential doctrine we differ over).
ONCE AGAIN THAT WAS NOT ME…PLEASE PROVIDE A POST # WHERE I SAY THAT!
I REALLY DO THINK YOU HAVE ME CONFUSED WITH SOMEONE ELSE…OR ARE YOU LUMPING ALL CATHOLICS IN THE SAME BOAT…SO IF CATHOLIC “A” SAYS SOMETHING THAN ALL CATHOLICS HAVE SAID IT???
I HAVE MADE A TOTAL OF 7 POSTS ON THIS THREAD( #43,60,62,65,66,77,80) …AND IN NONE OF THEM DID I DO WHAT YOU HAVE ACCUSED ME OF…THAT IS RUDE!!!

So has Science come of age in your view? And was it worth waiting for? Did we need it’s assent? Are we sure they have it right who once rejected Copernicus, who once taught a flat earth and who, in many, if not most cases, offer empirical arguments against God?

You clearly assert that God used a Big Bang to create the world. The God in the Scriptures didn’t. Perhaps your god did? Or have you, as many in the Church claim unchallenged, special charisms and personal revelations about this period in time?

Glad to hear that Ex-Nihilo, believes what God clearly reveals in the Scriptures. Sixtus seems very keen to support the authenticity of the Bible the Church has but quite reluctant to believe it’s actual content…

Consider this also: today’s evolutionists may reject a Big Bang, and clearly not ALL of them do, but who gave the world such a hare-brained and fantastical notion in the first place?? Evolutionists! If God be God follow Him, for a house built on the changing sands must invariably blow about with every wind of doctrine before crumbling.
Thought for any who are interested, I came across this article on EWTN, I hope this gives some clarity on how the Church approaches this subject. ewtn.com/library/Theology/schonevo2.HTM

Amen–my non-denom minister says the same thing. You said you were baptist right. Look 2 protestant churches that agree . I guess that knocks the number down to 32,998. YEAH:thumbsup:
Our church is only about seven months old (and we’ve already more than doubled in size!). When we started it back in April, one of the things that we really wanted to do was make sure that all of us on the ministry staff are accountable.

That means doctrinally, personally, morally, and financially.

We have an open door policy that anyone can come to us at any time and present a problem that they may have with our teachings or practices. We’ve purposely put oversights into place to make sure that their concerns don’t aren’t ignored or swept under the rug.

Any member or outside contributor to the church can make an appointment to see our books.

About once every five to six weeks, the pastor, and myself (as well as the other deacon) go to sit in front of an informal board of about twelve pastors and deacons from other churches. It rotates from week to week, but each one of us takes a turn sitting in “The Seat of Heat” and being grilled on what we taught or preached during that time.

This is to make sure that everything we say comes right out of the Bible. Is it common? No. But it is Biblical and it is something that we believe is necessary to ensure that none of our people comes to believe that they’re more important that God’s word.

By the way, please pray for us. We’re still meeting outside while the building is finished and it gets cold here on the Bay.

We’re also having to scramble to make modifications to the new building that we didn’t count on, because we’ve all been caught off guard by the explosive growth over the last few months.

So then, let me get this straight:

It’s perfectly acceptable for you to refer to me as “you all”, but not for me to point out what you all have done to me?

well that is what I said the first time but you said that was a lie:confused:
No, actually, I’ve never said that it’s a lie. In fact, I’ve been very much vocal about saying that it is the word of God.
well anybody can do that…🙂
You’re right.
Well I know why he gives them to the Catholic Church…I was curious as to what Baptist pastors say though;)
The Bible tells us that He gives them to us for the edification of the church.

So then, let me get this straight:

It’s perfectly acceptable for you to refer to me as “you all”, but not for me to point out what you all have done to me?
AFTER REVIEWING ALL OF MY POSTS…NO WHERE IN MY POSTS DID **I **SAY “YOU ALL”
I DID SAY “YOUR” MEANING YOU PERSONALLY…

I personally have not done sqwat to you…so YES I do take offense when you lump ALL Catholics together…when it was NOT ALL Catholics that said these things to you!

You’re right. You didn’t. That was my mistake.

However, you did say, “but we have not slung nasty lies like that at you so please do not fling garbage like that at us”, the “we” and “us” meaning the Roman Catholics here, as a whole.

I simply gave you examples to show that the Roman Catholics here have done these things.

If you’re that offended, then be mad at them for doing it, not at me for pointing it out.

Karin:
your authority is the word of God…so you rely on the bible only and whatever yoour pastor says the bible says??

mikemck:
No. This is a very common lie by Roman Catholics. Our sole authority is the word of God.

mikemck:
so what part in the quoted (#2) section above was a lie???

My disgust is that you said “The Roman Catholic church didn’t send Christ. It offends Christ” that is** OFFENSIVE** and uncalled for!

Thank you. Next time, try to be a little more vague.
Seeing as mickmck has been banned, I’ll just answer his factual claims.
But the letters weren’t written to Timothy and Titus.
1 Timothy 1:2 – “To Timothy, my true child in the faith:”
2 Timothy 1:2 – “To Timothy, my beloved child:”
Titus 1:4 – “To Titus, my true child in a common faith:”

Seems to me that they were written to Timothy and Titus, and we should interpret them as such.
From the Bible.
I don’t see in the Bible where it says that you, mikemck, or the congregation you attend, has the authority to appoint elders.

Ah, more childish name calling. I’m sure Mary is honored by these antics.
Actually, this was an attempt to get you to respond to my question, since you appear to be ignoring it. “Mikey” certainly shouldn’t be taken as “name calling” by one whose using the log in name of Mike. However, if I have offended you by adding the “y” I apologize. Now, will you answer the question and perhaps we can discuss what it is you’re misunderstanding. Because I know that a Baptist wouldn’t be here simply to harass Catholics (that certainly wouldn’t be a Christian thing to do), but rather to have clarified questions that they may have concerning Catholicism. Since you brought up the subject of Papal Infallibility, I’d like to help you understand what it is. However, before spelling everything out, I’d like to hear what it is you think it to be so as not to bore you with the facts that you may already be aware of. Many protestants have no idea what infallibility is and instead confuse it with impeccability. The two aren’t the same and certainly you have nothing against hearing something that you may disagree with.

So, again Mike (without the “y”), what do you believe Papal infallibility to be?

It had to have been the Holy Spirit (NOT THE WILL OF MAN) that has guided the Church throughout the ages for the following reasons:
  1. The same Catholic Church that was founded when Christ died on the Cross, and Revealed at Pentecost is STILL AROUND.
  2. WE STILL HAVE APOSTLES (THAT IS SUCCESSORS OF THE ORIGINAL 12 APOSTLES)
  3. The same teachings and doctrines and Dogmas that were taught in the days of Christ are still taught today in the Catholic church.
  4. The Holy Spirit guides the church (Magesterium) to teach infallibly regarding faith and morals.
I could go on and on…

Actually, I find the fact that Mike was banned both a good and bad thing. Yes, while I like the fact that Mike not being here limits the amount of harassment spewed toward Catholicism, I still wonder if he might not have been able to soak in some of the truth about Catholicism, had he simply asked the questions he had and left the insults behind. Those of you, who have read my posts in the past, know that I generally do not stifle my personal feelings when it comes to those who would attack the Church. However, optimally, I wish that we could all have civil discussions concerning the misunderstandings in our beliefs. If the conversations could only remain insult-free, non-accusing, and simply a question-and-answer dialog both Catholics and protestants might discover that we share many of the same beliefs. I need to remind myself of this as well, for I have failed to be charitable on several occasions. Perhaps that’s the Irish blood in me, which boils up when the Church appears to be attacked. Regardless, I will say a prayer for Mike and hope that he will discover the truth about Catholicism and thereby shed his coat of prejudices.

Are you thankful that the Catholic Church gave you the Bible?

Do you agree with her that the books she rejected from the Bible in the year 393 do not belong there?
