Kevin I think that would (just kidding) on whom one asks.

For a lot all is needed is saying a mental prayer, faith and you are in period.

No sacraments needed.
I come from a Protestant background, religion is considered a personal affair between a person and his/her God: Do I have a right to dictate to another what they should think, or do I have a right to respect their decision?
For me a person’s life has to do with personal responsibility (theirs).

I come from a Protestant background as well, Even though my mer co-religionists would never admit to being members of a denomination or even Protestants. To them they are “just Christians”, like a lot of denominational Christians in so called “non-denominational” denominations.

Protestestants have individualism as thier hallmark. To them everything is individual. But the Catholic faith to which we both belong teaches that we are saved in the church. It is interesting to read the obits. When a Catholic dies the obit says Our Lord. When a Protestant dies the obit reads “his Lord”. That is just a basic difference.

Of course you we have the right and responsibillity to resepect individuals personal rights and responsibillities. But it kind of hints at “nothing matters, it’s all the same” relativism which according to our faith is false teaching.

To all the Once Saved Always Saved people out there, Riddle Me This Batman. If you think that the Bible is the one and only authority.
I Timothy 3:15… But If I should be delayed, you should know how to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of truth.

Catholics are not just Catholics, we are Christians. I dislike it when people segregate us from Christianity when we were the first church. Our founder was not men who couldnt except the truth, so they took and added what they wanted. Our founder was Jesus Christ himself. So, when you all want to talk or write about those Catholics like we are different just think about what I just said.

I was raised Southern Baptist and I am Catholic through the grace of God. I am going to lose my marrage because my wife is Southern Baptist and she cant except the fact that Im Catholic. I am standing up for the truth. I know that God will provide for me even though it will be hard to live with out my love of my life. I have been through it all with my chose of faith. I am the only Catholic in my entire family. The Catholic church is the One True Faith. We were the ones that Peter “rock” started with the help of Jesus. In Matt 16:18-19… And I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will rebuild my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

You can read out of the Bible and get whatever you want out of it. I was taught just to read the Bible and that’s it. You people who question the universial Christian Faith (catholicism), how dare you think you know more than other 2,000 years of men and women who have devoted thier lives to God. Im not talking about reading the Bible everyday. Im talking about every breath they took, they where praying. Every step they took, every thing they do was for God. They gave up thier lives to live a life close to God (Jesus- God in man). They fasted more than what we have ever thought of fasting. They studied and decipherd the Bibical text. So, when all you so called Anti-Catholics can evev come close to any Saint, then and only then, you can come in here and you can talk about the CHURCH. Because when you bash us, you bash Him (The Father, Son and the Holy Spirit).

Sorry, for being so harsh but someone had to stand up for the Church that Jesus Christ left to save not to condem humanity.

I have more scripture… I’m here to help people receive Christ in a way they never have done before. Protestants ony have one piece of the pie (Bible), we Catholics have the whole pie. We would love to share it. It never runs out.

Peace be with you all…

You all, that are Anti-Catholic, you need to read Rome Sweet Home by Scott Hahn. If it doesnt change your mind it will make you question your faith practices.

I am a Southern Baptist, and im kind of upset about some of the things being posted here. We do not believe catholics are not Christians. We dont understand some of the catholic beliefs because we dont go to catholic churches. I think we all have one thing in common is that we beleive Christ died on the cross, and rose from the dead in payment for our sins. Instead of bashing other forms of Christianity, why not accept that they are going in the right direction in that faith in Christ saves us all. Alot of thing being posted on here about Baptist on here are not true or a stretch. So lets not bash each other and let God do his will for each of us. Have a blessed day.

Amen! I understand how you feel. However, comming from a Southern Baptist upbringing in the deep south, I can tell you that some Baptists (and I don’t believe them to be representative of Baptists in general) do hold to the belief that Catholics are not Christians. Here’s a perfect example:

I just found this site to find out about catholic beliefs, and to try to educate myself. all I found was how catholics dont like baptist and a bunch of negativity. When I was in the army I went to a catholic church with a friend, and I addmit i was lost as far as the mass goes. I respect all Christians. I might disagree with some of their practices. Not everyone is called to do the same thing. Paul was called to spread the good news to the gentiles. I think all the diff. churches are called to spread the same news in diff. ways to diff people. I think we should encourage each other not bash each other.

Sonny are you not aware that Catholics don’t beleive in “getting saved”? And in the Baptist denomination “getting saved” is what makes you a Christian.

Since we don’t get saved, do you still think Catholics are Christian?

i believe when you are saved is when you put your faith in Christ and beleive that he died on the cross and rose three days later for payment of my sins. you may not call it saved but if you believe you are just as much christian as I am wheather you call it that or not. It doesnt matter if I think your a Christian or not. God knows your heart. I am to accept you either way. God bless

Thanks for the nice, kind response Sonny. Of course I have faith in Jesus. I was also baptised as a baby for the forgiveness of sins.

You should talk to some of my SBC relatives who say I am NOT a Christian, and will go to hell for not getting saved in the Southern Baptist way.

I have a SBC uncle who is a glazzier (stained glass installer) he was very rude to the priest in whose church he was installing stained glass. Pushed him aside and called him “young man” instead of father.

I have always called Baptist ministers Revererend or Brother, just being courteous and repectful.

Hi sonny,

YOUR RIGHT bashing anyones religion is not Christ-like and unworthy of any Christian!

However Christ intended only One Church, One faith. We would be less than true to ignore this fact.

Eph. 2:19 So then you are no longer strangers and sojourners, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, SINGULAR] built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole structure is joined together and grows into a holy temple in the Lord; SINGULAR] in whom you also are built into it for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.”

Eph. 4: 4 “There is one body [One Church] and one Spirit, [One Heart and One Mind] just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call, one Lord, One Triune God] one faith, One set of doctrine and dogma and Tradition] one baptism, [By water in the Trinity] one God and Father of us all, who is above all and through all and in all. “

I was a Southern Baptist for some years (almost went into their ministry) and you can read about my reversion to the Catholic faith at My Testimony.

Some SBs (Sometimes called “hard shell Southern Baptists”) are not very well informed about the Catholic faith and have been exposed to much a-C propaganda and misinformation. Some, like that uncle discussed above are not very nice, but that is a human failing and not something that is taught in the SB religion, even as similar misbehavior is not taught by our own Catholic faith.

Doctrinally, we have disagreements with the SBs, primarily because they are modern descendants of the Reformation errors.

I wish more were like Sonny and look forward to getting to know him in discussions.

Oh there is a lot of misinformation fed to Baptists. I go door to door for my parish and hand out invites and answer any questions to those who have them regarding the Catholic faith. I recently crossed paths with a Baptist minister who told me he appreciated what I was doing, living my faith, but believed that, ‘Satan had me by the balls’ and that I should go ‘pray to my pope’. Personally I believe the devil has us all ‘by the balls’ and the sooner we all realize it the better off we will be as Christians and as a society. Relativism is the undoing of us all and I see how many heresies of the early Church have been revived today, inside the Catholic Church and all around society as well. As Christians we all need to strive to know the truth and though the Catholic Church is not perfect I do believe it is the closest to the Truth because who else can say that their church was founded by Jesus himself?

Hi Justin and Sonny,
I have to make a comment about this - it hits close to home. I am a cradle Catholic living amongst other cradle Catholics, but unfortunately I have lost my older sister and one of my brothers to Protestantism. The problem that I see,is that among my fellow Catholics , I have never heard one say that a Bible believing Baptist is for sure going to hell because they don’t believe in the true presence of Our Lord in the Eucharist, or because they don’t have the sacraments in their faith or really for any “Catholic” reason. I never had a Nun or Priest or lay teacher say that non-Catholics were all going to hell and were worthless in the efforts to know and love God. However, what I have had to endure for over 20 years is my Bible believing Baptist sister, tell me and my parents and many family and friends that we are going to hell and that their beliefs and efforts to live a good Christian life are fruitless and a waste of time because as long as they don’t make that all important statement - that Jesus Christ is their personal saviour - that they are as sinful and worthless as Judas. While I agree that we are all sinners - I do not agree that I cannot cooperate with the Grace given to me as a gift and that through that my life is worth something in this world and the next. What makes a Southern Baptist believe that their faith in the Father, Son and Holy Spirit is their exclusive club ?! I don’t believe that saying Jesus is my personal savior is enough - I know I have to live it every day and if that means I do a good work today, I thank God for the chance to do it. I appreciate that non-Catholics want a dialog with us, but I won’t allow them to disrepect Our Lord in the Eucharist or the church he so lovingly gave to us.

im not on this site not to disrespect anyones beliefs-only to understand them and maby even learn something, but there is a lot of bashing on here. Me as a Baptist and you as Catholic are brothers in Christ. Do you think all baptist dont live it every day and not thank God for the chance. I mean no disrespect to any of you guys. Those of you who have family members persecuting you for being Catholic all you can do is pray for them but dont assume all Baptist are like that. thanks for listening and hope you guys be the best Christians you can be.

Well said Sonny.

Hopefully we can help you get the info that you seek.

I grew up in a baptist home too. I know that they believe OSAS and they don’t believe that the Eucharist is the Body and Blood of Our Lord. The “Lord’s Supper” is not the same thing as the Eucharist and I never was taught that it becomes Our Lord’s flesh and blood. I was also told that you could never lose your salvation but like another poster said, there was a loophole by saying that the person was never really “saved”. I decided to investigate the Catholic Church in 1997 and after some study and talking with other Catholics, I decided to convert. I came into the Church in April, 1999.

My dad was curious about my decision and he decided to investigate the Church. He came in in 2001. My brother followed in 2006 (i think). However, my other brother and sister decided to become Lutheran and married Lutherans. My mother is the only one who remains a baptist. She was not happy with my conversion nor with my brother’s but the worst was my dad’s. Ever since then we have had arguments about the faith. I can’t talk about religion with her and my dad’s choice has put a terrible strain on my parent’s marriage. Thankfully they are still “together” but I know there is a permanent rift between them. 😦
