=Justin1982;6749781]Oh there is a lot of misinformation fed to Baptists. I go door to door for my parish and hand out invites and answer any questions to those who have them regarding the Catholic faith. I recently crossed paths with a Baptist minister who told me he appreciated what I was doing, living my faith, but believed that, ‘Satan had me by the balls’ and that I should go ‘pray to my pope’. Personally I believe the devil has us all ‘by the balls’ and the sooner we all realize it the better off we will be as Christians and as a society. Relativism is the undoing of us all and I see how many heresies of the early Church have been revived today, inside the Catholic Church and all around society as well. As Christians we all need to strive to know the truth and though the Catholic Church is not perfect I do believe it is the closest to the Truth because who else can say that their church was founded by Jesus himself?
Justin my friend; very good post:thumbsup:

However when it comes to **Faith and Morals **[and only these wo broad catagories] the CHURCH simply cannot be in error. PLEASE READ John 14:16-17 and John 17: 15-19 , especially v.19:) IMPOSSIBLE… God Himself says so.

:rotfl:i would love to come across a baptist like this… it would be a great intro into teaching them about the fruits of the Spirit. my favorite was a penacostal who said i was a member of the whore of babylon, and that the devil was in charge of the Catholic Church, but that he still attended Mass once in a while for his families sake. really? i very rarely set foot in a protestant church,and never for a worship service. not because i believe they are of the devil, there is just nothing there for me anymore since my conversion. but why would you come near any organization and participate, if you believed it was of the devil? peace 🙂

im not on this site not to disrespect anyones beliefs-only to understand them and maby even learn something, but there is a lot of bashing on here. Me as a Baptist and you as Catholic are brothers in Christ. Do you think all baptist dont live it every day and not thank God for the chance. I mean no disrespect to any of you guys. Those of you who have family members persecuting you for being Catholic all you can do is pray for them but dont assume all Baptist are like that. thanks for listening and hope you guys be the best Christians you can be.
hi sonny, dont take this the wrong way, but you are in the minority. no not all baptist, but most. former baptist myself. and one of the things that downright upset me was my congregations attitudes towards Catholics. i like you believed them to be brothers/sisters in Christ. it came to a head, when we were asked in sunday school by the instructor, what we felt about Catholics and Catholocism. i was the only one standing up for them in a room full of antis…well except one. she was a visitor and the intructor was her son. and guess what? the poor woman was Catholic. i have since found out how she was able to keep her cool and grace in such a situation. afterwards she did let it be known that she wasnt to happy, and i was embarrassed by the behavior she had witnessed, and apologized for their comments. never returned to this church. never would. and i was a member there for a number of years. with your kind of tolerance you may end up like me someday…Catholic! maybe not but its good to know people like you are out there. peace 🙂

My mother in law is a little angry that both my wife and her soon to be married younger daughter both started their RCIA classes last night.
That is something I just do not understand. Why would a Baptist or anyone be angry because a family member is choosing to become Catholic (or any other Christian religion, presuming it’s not some cult?)

I’m a Catholic, husband is Baptist, so I sometimes join him after I’ve gone to Mass. The Baptist service is singing, sermon, altar call, and closing prayer with music. (Collection, too, of course) One of the great things about Baptists is that a very high percentage of them go to Bible Study on Sunday before services. I wish more Catholics saw the value in that. On the other hand, I know many who go to Bible study and skip the service. I enjoy the Baptist service, it’s always uplifting. The singers in my husband’s church are incredible - many recording professionally. But I don’t see their service as God-focused as it could be, probably because I’m so in love with the Mass, which is completely focused on Jesus and not on the performance of the singers and musicians. It is sad that they can’t appreciate the beauty of the Mass.
Does your husband ever attend Mass with you, and if so, what is his opinion of it?

I grew up in a baptist home too. I know that they believe OSAS and they don’t believe that the Eucharist is the Body and Blood of Our Lord. The “Lord’s Supper” is not the same thing as the Eucharist and I never was taught that it becomes Our Lord’s flesh and blood. I was also told that you could never lose your salvation but like another poster said, there was a loophole by saying that the person was never really “saved”. I decided to investigate the Catholic Church in 1997 and after some study and talking with other Catholics, I decided to convert. I came into the Church in April, 1999.

My dad was curious about my decision and he decided to investigate the Church. He came in in 2001. My brother followed in 2006 (i think). However, my other brother and sister decided to become Lutheran and married Lutherans. My mother is the only one who remains a baptist. She was not happy with my conversion nor with my brother’s but the worst was my dad’s. Ever since then we have had arguments about the faith. I can’t talk about religion with her and my dad’s choice has put a terrible strain on my parent’s marriage. Thankfully they are still “together” but I know there is a permanent rift between them. 😦
your parents are in my prayers. peace to you and yours. :signofcross:

I can attest to this, and by the way great attitude. I admire your respect for another Christian faith. I am a convert; Southern Baptist was my first religion. In my family my sister is a Pentecostal, my dad and step mom are SB, my mother (RIP) was SB then became Mormon, one step sister in law is evangelical, several uncles and aunts are Lutheran, one step brother is Mennonite, another step brother who is mad a God and disavows Him, but as for Catholics I am the only one that I know of. So you can see there is a diverse group of religious backgrounds in my family.

My dad and step mom who are SB, follow and believe as SB’s do, but are very respectful and supportive of our faith. They go to Church with us when they visit and have a great time. They will put down any lies or falsehoods about the Catholic faith if they know the truth, if not they will ask me or my wife, we supply the correct belief of the CC, and they will in turn put down the lie. They will not tolerate anyone bashing Catholics. My sister is my biggest nemesis about religion. Her take is that as Catholics we all are going to hell, our children, because we raised them as Catholics, are going to hell and that we are Godless people. So our greatest supporters and defenders are my SB dad and step mom.

When one neither knows THEE truth, or has THEE truth, one subjects themself to accepting only what they are able to figure out for themselves; or worse; accpecting untruth on the word of someone else, without investigating it.

It’s not what “are” not what Catholics actualy do and practice that causes the rift; NO, it is what people think we are, and THINK we do.🤷 😊

I often wonder what my Baptist inlaws think about my faith, but I’m not about to get into a religious discussion with them. My mother-in-law did give me a Catholic bookmark once, so I guess she’s okay with it, though there once was a time when I had the feeling she and my father-in-law weren’t. They never said anything about Catholicism, it was just something I sensed.

I just checked out the Baptist Board and talk about bashing. They are trashing Mother Theresa, (Teresa?,) and many of the posters are VERY anti-Catholic, one going so far as to call Catholicism “a wicked and ungodly cult.” :mad:

😦 Sadly, it is true to often than not they are anti-Catholic. My mom claims she isn’t but every mention of anything Catholic and she will immediately get upset. When I was still living with my parents, I would occasionally put it on EWTN. Immediately my mom would get very upset and demand that the channel be changed. She thinks that we are all “wrong” and that eventually we (meaning my dad, my brother, and myself…possibly including my husband in the bunch) will see the LIGHT and come out of that terrible church :(.

That’s a shame. I’m sorry you all are having to go through all that. 😦

I thought the following would be a little comfort.

Matthew 5:10-11 Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you (falsely) because of me.

Romans 12:14 Bless those who persecute (you), bless and do not curse them.

Thank you for those verses. I pray for my mom every day that she can at least be somewhat open to the Faith. It has hurt my parent’s marriage :(. Thankfully my dad remains a faithful Catholic but I know it has been very, very difficult for him. I keep hoping that things get better.

I have posted this elsewhere,

As a Southern Baptist who converted some 26+ years ago one of my greatest sins is in persecuting the Church Christ established. I have since reconciled that sin and am a better person for it. It was a long road to learning what the truth was. There were a lot of deep rooted bigotry that had to be purged with the truth, but with the help of a great Catholic lady, my wife, who exemplified and evangelized her faith with love, patients, and example lead me away from the sin of living in a spiritual wasteland and put me back on the path to God. What greater role can a woman of the church have than to lead a lost soul back to God?

I am a former Southern Baptist as well. My father is a minister my mom is the church secretary. Let’s just say it didn’t go over so well for them when they found out I was coming into the Catholic church about a year and a half ago. My mom and I still can’t talk about it…

I think the hardest thing for me to accept about the Catholic faith was salvation. SBs belive in “once saved, always saved”. Basically, once you made alter call and accepted Jesus you were going to heaven no matter what. There were many bumps along the road for me, but that was certainly the biggest.

I’m thankful for my Baptist upbringing because I learned a lot about the Bible and had a love for Jesus… and being Catholic completes the picture.
I am a former SB as well, taught Sunday School, was even a deacon. I questioned the “once saved…” doctrine as well, which is what got me started studying the Catholic teaching of the subject. This lead to studying the Sacraments, the Saints, and the origins of the Bible. Once I started RCIA classes, I was hooked. Once you have seen the truth, how can you turn your back on it? Upon Confirmation and first Communion, I felt as though I had finally come home.

I think one thing that we need to remember as Catholics is that we should guard ourselves from having pre-concieved notions about Baptists just as they have pre-concieved notions about Catholics. We really believe about 90% of the same teaching. It’s that other 10% that Satan uses to drive wedges of disunion between God’s children.

Don’t sweat those guys.They’re pretty much the kind of folks who don’t wanna be confused with facts because they’ve already got their minds made up. 🤷

Good ones! 👍

Then there is also:

1st Peter 3:9] Do not return evil for evil or reviling for reviling; but on the contrary bless, for to this you have been called, that you may obtain a blessing.
10] For “He that would love life
and see good days,
let him keep his tongue from evil
and his lips from speaking guile;
11] let him turn away from evil and do right;
let him seek peace and pursue it.
12] For the eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous,
and his ears are open to their prayer.
But the face of the Lord is against those that do evil.”
13] Now who is there to harm you if you are zealous for what is right?
14] But even if you do suffer for righteousness’ sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled,
15] but in your hearts reverence Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to make a defense to any one who calls you to account for the hope that is in you, yet do it with gentleness and reverence;
16] and keep your conscience clear, so that, when you are abused, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame.
17] For it is better to suffer for doing right, if that should be God’s will, than for doing wrong.

Pass on to him this version of the Miraculous Medal prayer of St. Maximilian Kolbe’s Militia Immaculata.
Daily Miraculous Medal Prayer of St. Maximilian
O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to you, and for all those who do not have re-course to you, especially the enemies of Holy Church and all those recommended to you.

Thank you Black Knight for the Miraculous Medal prayer. I needed to see that. I am sorry I took out some frustration in my post the other day, although what I said is true. It reassured me to read a lot of the older posts to see how well informed so many of the members are and how willing they are to share their experiences with this issue of differences in faith. To the member who said that we believe in 90% of what protestants believe - I don’t know if that isn’t just wishful thinking. Why we think it is as important as what we think. I think the 10% might just trump everything else. I will always and forever wonder what my sister and brother were ever thinking to abandon Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. When they meet God face to face someday and he asks them why they did this, I can’t help wondering what glib answer they will have for Him. It much different to say that you became a Catholic after being raised Southern Baptist than it is to say the reverse. I can see that you bring your love of the Gospel with you into your new Catholic faith and it is only enhanced if possible, by our Tradition and practice and the Sacraments bring it to life! But to go from being Catholic to being Southern Baptist is a very different and difficult thing to understand. It is a simpler way of believing and in many ways probably an easier way to live. As my mother has told me, being Catholic is a lifetime job and it isn’t easy. And we modern Americans like things easy, don’t we?
