I am looking for suggestions on books written in the Catholic perspective for weight loss, compulsive overeating, or dieting.
The book “Trim Healthy Mamas” has done wonders for my wife!I am looking for suggestions on books written in the Catholic perspective for weight loss, compulsive overeating, or dieting.
I’ve thought about going to OA a few times, as I have struggled with eating disorders (bulimia and compulsive eating, and in the past, anorexia). Has it been a positive experience overall?I don’t know of any books, but I’ve found Overeater’s Anonymous to be Catholic-friendly. I’m the only Catholic in our small OA group & in the 1 1/2 years I’ve been a member haven’t gotten any flack, or even mild disapproval.
The OA literature is also suitable for Catholics. OA.org.
Thanks for that. Glad someone actually answered the OP’s question.Mary DeTurris’ “Cravings”
Very good book!
It has. It’s good to be able to talk with people who understand, rather than just say, “Eat less & move more.” If it were that easy, I’d have done it years ago! The 12 Steps are the key to recovery - you really have to work them and take them seriously. At every meeting we say, “It works if you work it!”I’ve thought about going to OA a few times, as I have struggled with eating disorders (bulimia and compulsive eating, and in the past, anorexia). One of my OA friends has dealt with anorexia, while for me the problem has been overeating & binging, and we’ve both found help with the 12 Steps.
You’re in California, so it might be easier to find multiple meetings. Go to as many as you can to find a good fit.
