Catholic women, do you feel opressed?

No, not at all. In fact, I feel more liberated since I returned to the Church.

I don’t feel even the tiniest bit oppressed! Actually my conversion was an amazing, liberating experience and I feel more and more like myself as time passes.

I’ve also noticed that most of the modern day feminists I’ve run across tend to think that women are only “liberated” if they have a certain secular lifestyle. Talk about oppression.

If the question is to understand how women feel living their Catholic faith, then NO I don’t feel oppressed as a Catholic woman living my faith.

I don’t feel the least bit oppressed. I’m a believer in authentic femininity, although you’re most likely to find me in jeans and a t-shirt! 😃 I don’t feel oppressed because I can’t be a priest. I don’t know any Catholic priests who can experience pregnancy either! It’s like Fr. Corapi says, different, but equal in dignity.

As for the argument that the church looks down on women…someone please explain to me, then, why we absolutely revere Mary. Last time I checked, she was a woman!

Oppressed by the Church? On the contrary, the Church lifts me up, encourages me and celebrates me as a Catholic woman trying to live out her vocation as wife & mother.

Oppressed by the world because I am Catholic? All the time.

I do not in any way feel oppressed by our Holy Mother Church or by authentic Catholic teaching. I do, however, feel oppressed by our culture and society quite often.

To the ladies who are struggling, don’t give up!!! If you feel like you are having to hide yourself, ask if that is the “self” you want to be. Do you really want to be that person? If so, is that person in accordance with God’s will for your life and His plan for your salvation? That’s the tricky part, idn’t it? Sometimes I feel like I have to hide part of myself, but for me at least, it is like tossing the dirty laundry off the floor and into the closet before company comes. It’s a part of me that I would rather do without altogether, only I haven’t been able to divest myself of it yet. Also, consider making a devotion to Our Lady of Sorrows. I do this during my times of struggle, and I find that it really helps me. Remember that you are not alone, even though it may feel like it often. You are in our prayers and your guardian angel is right beside you!

No, as a Catholic woman I surely don’t feel oppressed by Catholicism. Nor I suspect would I have felt so even at the time of St. Thomas. And while we keep hearing about how “Catholicism” used the saint’s writings to ‘subjugate’ women for centuries, why then I wonder did our esteemed Protestant sisters (and brothers) seem to go far further in their constant use of "scripture’ to harangue women as ‘the weaker vessel’? If you want to point fingers for the arguable cultural ‘suppression’ of women in the last 500 years, you’d be far more likely to point at the man-made ‘interpretations’ of many (not all) Protestants in espousing and portraying an oppressive view of women, whereas the Catholic women were often far stronger and had great chances. Though one might claim that Catholic women were ‘humbled’ Catholic MEN were likewise!

That would be a big HEdouble hockey stick NO!!! See we can cuss 😃

My eyes have been open to the beauty of being a female when i i feel in love with the church. Have you read some of the popes wrtitings on marriage and the beauty of females or seen the examples of the women from the bible?? It will blow anything else out of the water!!!

Not a bit. My husband treats me like a queen. Every male Catholic friend I have treats me with enormous respect. Compared to how your average guy my age (20’s) seems to treat women most of the time, there’s just no comparison.
