I found this rather interesting study.

I found the article useless though. The 24 % they say is “objectively faithful” is misleading. It would be more proper to include those who attend almost every week to account for what the Church actually allows.
The bottom line though is that only a third or so of those who say they are Catholic are Catholic in the sense that we normally think of as Catholics (go to Mass, Confession, help out a little or a lot in the parish, etc. ) It is something to consider when people speak of what Catholics are like as a group, if they include the two thirds of Catholics that are lapsed or occasional Catholics.
