Because the only thing the left understands is when the money runs dry. I am almost ashamed to say that my late cousin is in your Canadian Football Hall of Fame (5 Gray Cup wins as a QB there)
This is sick what is happening up there, but, I feel for all those Canadians that do not buy into this. They are innocent bystanders. Pray for them. I know how it feels to live in a place you love, but, have to deal with crazy government tatics, I live in California… I have seen people post, “I wish California would just fall of into to ocean.” That breaks my heart. But, I am too sensitive at times. :yup:

Looks like the leftist “kangaroo court” is at it again:
I only live a few miles from the Canadian border and I will not be crossing into there any time soon. In addition, I will not be buying anything made in Canada.
I’m Canadien, and I aplaud you for your position.

I am seriously considering more and more to move to the US or anywhere else.

Je n’ai plus de pays chez moi.

Make sure you find out where your gas, oil, natural gas, electricity, food, technology etc comes from.

Good luck boycotting the United States Largest Trading Partner.👍

You talk the talk, let’s see if you can walk the walk.

And this isn’t the only example of the law being used to persecute Christians in Canada. One of the most flagrant examples involved a gay student at a Catholic high school in the Toronto area several years ago. The gay student wanted to take his gay partner to the senior prom, and the high school said he could not. Then the gay student went to court and the judge ordered the high school to let him go to the prom. Nor, the judge ordered, could the high school cancel the prom. Local politicians including the mayor of Tornoto applauded this decision, the state in this way becoming involved by their open support. And a corporation hired a limosine to take the gay couple to the prom. There are other cases as bad as this one over the last several years.
Bad decision? It’s a free country with a constitution…this Catholic High School that you mention…is publicly funded! You can’t discriminate against someone in a publically funded institution.

Did you know that Catholic Schools are constitutionally protected in Canada…that is tax funded Catholic Schools…that’s right, everyone, even the atheists have to pay for them!

**If the Catholic School can discriminate against homosexuals, then what’s stopping the Public schools from discriminating against the Christians?
**
The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. It’s a two way street.

I must be missing something here. What are the Catholic bishops of Canada doing to fight this? What are they doing to defend one of their priests from persecution? What are they doing to face down the government and this so-called tribunal and have them back off?

Well, you are more than welcome to come here… I would love to have you here. We will trade you for Susan Sarandon. She wants to move up there again, ya know.

Well, that all sounds really bad to me. That was the worst thing the Catholic Schools could do. What were they thinking?

The Tax funded Catholic School System has existed in Canada since 1841…43% of the Canadian population is Catholic.

We have always enjoyed a publicly funded Catholic School System.

" Catholic boards have the constitutional authority to take matters of faith into account in hiring, advancing, promoting and dismissing employees."

** Institute for Catholic Education (ICE) Founded by the Ontario Council of Catholic Bishops**
Code:
... actively contributes to the work of the partners around issues of Curriculum, Teacher Education, Faculties of Education, etc.
Not quite sure what your objections are to a Catholic School…you seem to forget that millions of Canadians can go to a Catholic school, instead of a few hundred wealthy kids who attend a Catholic Private school.

I guess you would rather the Catholic Schools shut down in Canada

Well, let’s see… Thank you for the information on the amount of time Catholic Schools have been publicly funded. I really do appreciate it. The thing is Canada today is a lot different than Canada 1841. When people start to use the fact that these schools are Government funded as support towards their government regulating them… well… that is where the problems come in.

On another note, please don’t accuse me of wanting something I never eluded to wanting, that is putting words in my mouth, and dishonest. Our Catholic schools in America are not Government funded. “A few wealthy kids” are not the only kids who are able to attend Catholic Private school in America. By the way, I know one mom who worked two jobs in order to send her daughter to Catholic School. People make it work here when they really want it. She doesn’t feel jilted in life either. She feels good about the hard work and sacrifices she made in order to get her daughter through Catholic School.

I think I get your point, but, I am fighting in the trenches at times. Not always a fun place to be, but, a place where we are needed… I am not going to walk away… Although, it has got pretty tempting. Especially lately.

Where in the Charter of Rights does it grant you to take whoever to the Prom? Can you point it out? I do recall FREEDOM of Religion. Its also in the Canadian Constitution that we would have our own Religious school.

You are wrong to say that everyone must pay for the Catholic school system. People are given the choice to either pay for Catholic or Public. If you don’t believe in what Catholicism stands for, then don’t support it.

If Marc Hall (the student in question) went to a Public High School then this wouldn’t have been an issue.

A Catholic school is an extension of our Catholic faith. Homosexuality is a sin and there would be no point to having a Catholic school if we couldn’t ensure it would be a Catholic environment.

It depends where you live.

We directed our taxes in Saskatchewan. We didn’t do that in Newfoundland and Labrador or in PEI. All taxes were put into a pot and split between school boards based on student population.

In Ontario you were given that choice. Thanks for the update though. But the point is, with regard to the Marc Hall case, if people don’t agree with all that Catholicism teaches, then don’t support the school system that enforces what it should teach.

It’s nothing new to have Catholics disagree with some of their own Church’s teachings. As long as Catholic schools are supported by public monies they are open to lawsuits such as Hall’s.

You might be interested to know that until the denominational system was dismantled in 1998, there were no PUBLIC schools in Newfoundland and Labrador. All schools were religion based:
Catholic, Pentecostal & Integrated (Anglican, United, etc).

The Articles of Confederation didn’t allow for a non-denominational system. The province had to petition Parliament for a change to the Articles of Confederation and it had to be approved by a majority of the provinces.

And the Seventh-Day Adventists – they were the 4th school system.

IIRC, the referendum made for strange bedfellows: the Integrated and Pentecostal school boards recommended their members vote YES (dismantle the system) while the Catholics and SDA’s advocated NO.

No one can answer this one for me? I cannot believe that the Catholic Bishops of Canada aren’t doing a thing to fight this so-called “Human Rights Tribunal.”

This is just a guess, but I suspect it’s because the law forbids words that subject people to hatred or contempt.

Christian charity also forbids us to say things that incite hatred and contempt.

The bishops complained about the hate laws when they were passed. I suspect they’re waiting for something more clear cut to stand up and defend. The website in question sounds rather radical and probably doesn’t represent normal catholic priests and bishops. It would possibly tarnish the image of the Catholic Bishops to come to its defense.
