I think all of the Catholics on the forum getting all worked up about comments like that isn’t worth your time. The guy (or girl) just came to rub in your faces something they think they know that you don’t. I wouldn’t worry about it. The comment they made doesn’t even make any difference, the liturgical calender was created by the Church (not the bible) and can be altered by the Church depending on the needs of the Church. agreed?

I can’t remember the name of the book, but the tongue-in-cheek part I do remember seems to apply to the OP:

“During the reign of Henry VIII, Rome split off from the Anglican Church to form the Roman Catholic Church” :rotfl:

Sorry no!

There is no such thing as the ‘Roman Catholic Church!’

Catholic means universal always everywhere. To say ‘universal’ then say Roman is a contradiction 😛

Christ founded a Church. That is Universal [Catholic]. It is lead form Rome. That does not mean Roman Catholic. That is a derogory name given to imply a sort of ‘limited’ universalism.

The Church of Christ the Christian Church is in both this life and the next [the Church at rest]. The community [as it is no longer a Church seeings Christ founded ONE Church] which broke with the teaching authority of Christ calls itself Anglican.

Anglican is taken to be some sort of quasi-Catholicism separated from Rome. It is not. There is but one Catholicism or universalism.

Any congregation not in union with Christ’s authority on earth is not a branch of Catholicism but a Community. One Church One Faith. Outside from which are our dearly loved but seperated brethren.
I am not Roman Catholic, I am Universal [or Catholic] Christian in union with Christ’s authority on earth. The Christian Church and the Communities of Separeted Brethren.

It’s really simple when you boil it down. You can’t change what you want and do what you want (contrary to scripture) and say that you are ordained by the Holy Spirit to do so. Just non-sensical.
Helloooooooo! Christ said “Whatever you bind on earth is bound in Heaven…” I think most prople would understand the concept of “whatever”

Let’s pray for RefPlus.

Christ’s PEACE.

What are cinnamon buns and bunnies?
A cinnamon bun is a sweet roll made with honey and cinnamon.
Do you have a recipe?
No, but the baker across the street from where I am staying here in the mountains of BC has one - apparently it cost him $20,000.00, so obviously he isn’t about to share it - suffice to say that cinnamon buns are “cin”-fully delicious!! 😛

Yer preachin to the choir, there, brother! I was paraphrasing a book that was making a sarcastic commentary about the point of view of some of the English Reformers, not attempting to make a point myself 😃

Very good 👍

May I plagiarise that to use in the ‘this or that’ thread?

Oops :o

Feel a bit silly now…

Sorry! 😦

Did you know that the Gregorian calender that you follow along with us Anglicans was altered in the Catholic church away from its original form? What you call ordinary time was originally not that at all. We still follow the calender in its true tradition by counting the Sundays after the saesons of Epiphany and Pentecost instead of merely referring to it as ordinary time. Who changed and who remained true to original tradition?

Point taken 🙂

I for one think the Anglican system is preferable (I also think it’s a pity the CC got rid of archdeacons after Trent) - but is this issue really important ?

It’s not exactly an articulus stantis vel cadentis Ecclesiae - is it 🙂 ?

this is just a small example of many distortions that needed to be refocused during the Reformation. Thank God for Thomas Cranmer, Martin Luther, King Henry 8 and many others. God bless the Church of England for the preservation of Christ’s traditional church.

The Catholic Church is definitely the original because we have the nicest basilicas and cathedrals! And the Anglicans and Lutherans, and all them stole them from us 😦 Sad times…

AND… The Catholic church as presented today is really not the original Christ church as it was meant to be preserved.
And therefore, the gates of Hell DID prevail against the Church…and therefore the Bible was wrong…

Logically there is no workaround my friend. Either the Bible which you hold to be 100% true is in fact 100% true, and therefore the gates of Hell did NOT prevail against the Church…and therefore you have placed yourself outside of Christ’s Church

Or if the Church is wrong, then the gates of Hell DID prevail against the Church, so that means that the Bible is not 100% true, and a belief system based entirely on Biblical truth is just smoke and mirrors.

Welcome phil8888 👍

Actually, that is not necessarily a bad thing. In our area the Anglicans have begged us to take over some of their [formerly our] Churches. They have even offered to pay us to take them or give them for free 😛

But our Diocesan office has resisted the temptation as they have become nothing more than massive financially crippling liabilities.

In many cases we rent [and often for a peppercorn rent] their Church buildings. That is a much more sensible option.

Far better they keep what they have acquired…and then they get the privildege to maintain them! 😛
