I’m so sorry, but I do not believe that consistent atheists can have a real purpose of life. They might only create a banal purpose** in life** for themselves, which would be limited by their lifespan.But…just because the friend is a lapsed Catholic, it doesn’t mean she doesn’t do the above.
Many non-Catholics-to-Atheists do and live by and achieve the above.

People who envision the consequences that may happen after their death may not be consistent atheists. Such people believe in some sort of afterlife deep in their minds.
