I would like to get Catholics Persective on why they do not think that Mr. joseph Smith, founder of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, is not a Prophet?
Because if you believe that the Catholic church is the one that Jesus himself setup and guides, why would you consider a person who’s prophecies and doctrines disagree big time with that one true church?I would like to get Catholics Persective on why they do not think that Mr. joseph Smith, founder of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, is not a Prophet?

Because I was a Mormon for over 30 years and I found the Mormon scriptures to be completely unreliable. I am now a very happy Catholic.I would like to get Catholics Persective on why they do not think that Mr. joseph Smith, founder of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, is not a Prophet?
Why would he be? Why would God choose to abandon the billions of people who believe they faithfully follow him through the Church he himself set up and promised would never fail, to re-instate his rule in a new continent with a man no one had heard of? The was not one faithful Catholic left? Not one faithful servant he could explain things to? Reveal the mistakes to?I would like to get Catholics Persective on why they do not think that Mr. joseph Smith, founder of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, is not a Prophet?
A devout Mormon once told me that Joseph Smith lied to his wife, his friends, and his early congregation about his sexual practices.
But seemingly devout Mormons do. Zerinus denies most everything that is common knowledge in the States about his ‘cherished profit.’ And to take him at his word, he is a devout Mormon.True prophets don’t lie.
The problem with Mormonism is simple and straightforward: it is a false denomination, denying EVERYTHING in Christian history and theology, claiming to be the NEW church of Jesus.
The fruit were this is self-evident: the Book of Mormon.
Read it and weep.
Yet, it wasn’t Jesus who gave the ‘golden tablets’ to that philandering Joseph Smith, it was some unknown angel who calls itself, Moroni. And there are no tablets or documents of any sort to back up Mormon belief. Including archeological and historical data.
The Book of Mormon is accepted by a number of LDS split-offs who are pretty orthodox and even believe in the Trinity. The Community of Christ is the largest. It wouldn’t surprise me if the Catholic Church even says the baptism of some of these groups is valid since they don’t follow the King Follet teachings. But seemingly devout Mormons do. When did the newly created Community of Christ change their name and their theology?
Was in the 1970s? or the 1980s? Or was it earlier?
The LDS call Joseph Smith, Jr. a martyr, yet he died in a gun battle wherein he fatally wounded two men. Only in Islam and Mormonism is a martyr someone who dies while killing people.I don’t ever remember Isaah,Jeramiah or Daniel getting into gunfights with people either as Smith did in Illinois.
I believe the RLDS changed their name in the 1990’s to Community of Christ. They want to appear to be more mainline Protestant and distinguish themselves from the LDS in the eyes of the public, as some of their teachings are very different than the LDS. My husband was raised in this group, and after attending Mass with me for many years, is now learning as much as he can about the Catholic Church and is strongly considering converting.
Katie,A question for the LDS and other followers of Joseph Smith: Exactly when did this apostacy occur? I have never gotten a straight answer to this question from anyone who believes that Joseph Smith was a prophet.
I went to their official site and read through their (yawn) history.
The name change came in 2000. On their Home page they list the scriptural bases for their ‘faith’, and of the many references to their credo, there is only ONE quote from the BoM and it follows 3 Biblical quotations on the same subject.
They stress Doctrine & Covenants more than the BoM although they claim the BoM “reinforces” Jesus’ message in the NT. An interesting spin than that of LDS self-promoting views of them being the “restoration” of us Apostate Catholics and our faulty Bible.
If you look at the other Mormon-related threads you will notice that the “Great Apostacy” is a fraud, without ANY Mormon poster telling in plain English what it was and when it occurred.
When many of us hammer Zerinus and wassup and chasjohn and alma for a direct answer, there is this
[silence]
Even the official mormon website is vague on what happened, when it happened and how do they know it happened.
Oh well.

I personally believe him to be a false prophet. One test the bible mentions to determine whether or not someone is a true prophet is if they predict things that don’t come to pass. Joseph Smith definitely falls into this category. Secondly, I think Joseph’s personal conduct during his tenure as a “prophet” is very suspect, especially with regards to his appetite for women. The whole manner in which polygamy started within the Mormon church stinks of corruption.I would like to get Catholics Persective on why they do not think that Mr. joseph Smith, founder of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, is not a Prophet?
Because Catholics believe that all public revelation ended with the death of the last Apostle.I would like to get Catholics Persective on why they do not think that Mr. joseph Smith, founder of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, is not a Prophet?
