Here lets add this link also before a long debate about “Judging” occurs which I already see coming around on a related thread which I do not want to derail. Just to cut through the chase of Love, Judging etc.

Love your neighbor doesn’t include being ignorant to the daily reality of the world either. The Truth is still the Truth regardless how you might understand it.

I thought there was a black rock that they venerated there.
I’m not sure what you mean here…but it does not sound good.
The Dome of the Rock was build on top of the original sight of the Second Temple in Jerusalem destroyed by the Romans. Acquired when Jerusalem surrendered during the muslim conquest of Syria in the 7th century. 😉

Peace

Judge not according to the appearance, but judge just judgment. (John 7:24).

And we charge you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you withdraw yourselves from every brother walking disorderly, and not according to the tradition which they have received of us. (2 Thessalonians 3:6).

Built by the Umayyad caliph Abd al-Malik.
I spoke to a few Orthodox Jews about how that works out in Israel. They were rather quiet on the topic. It works about as well as the Mosque on the Twin Tower sight. 😃

At the time Muhammmed had the alleged dream, the farthest mosque was either Medina or Mecca.

And the site was approximate to St. Mary Major of Justinian…a grandiose Orthodox Church. It was a habit of the Umayyids to use religion to make claims to the land. Some say then, well Muhammed ascended up to heaven next to the Catholic Church at that time!

The nephew of Muhammed was present at the land claim, and was very angry the Umayyids made claims to build a mosque on ‘the rock of Abraham’. For him…he believed it was the rock used as the altar to slay Abraham’s son…but it was to be held as sacred…nothing built on it.

And this is why you have the problems between the Sunnis and the Shia’s…ancestral descendents of Muhammed because they believe they have more authority from God for the truth of Islam than the Sunni’s.

I cannot see how. The Qur’an is clear that Abraham built the Kaa’ba.
The Qur’an also seems to deny the crucifixion of Jesus, when one takes the relevant passage in sura four at face value.

If true, this gives one little reason to accept the notion of Abraham building the Ka’bah without other supporting evidence.

Why does the Muslim rejection of the Crucifixion have anything to do with the building of the Ka’aba?

And you forget something: the Qur’an is a direct revelation by Allah, memorized by the Prophet (saw) and which remains unchanged to this day. Therefore the passage about Abraham building the Ka’aba is correct.

The koran is NOT a direct revelation by allah. If you take the islamic teachings, it is claimed that an angel revealed these so called “revelations” to mohamad.

Allah never spoke to mohamad.

God speaks to all of his prophets. God does not and has never sent Angel Gabriel to be his mouthpiece to reveal "revelations.

Gabriels job in the Bible is to pass on a message and return to God.

God is not the author of confusion.

memorized by the Prophet (saw) and which remains unchanged to this day. .
If you read ahadiths, especially Bukhari, it is mentioned that mohamad did forget some of the koran verses. Also, mohamad was so confused, there were at least 7 different variations or recitations for many verses.

The stoning verse was completely forgotten by everyone. It never made into the koran, therefore it became a hadith and part of their islamic tradition.

To the best of my knowledge, even the most skeptical scholars of Christianity believe that the crucifixion of Jesus is an undeniable historical event. For the Qur’an to contradict it should raise one’s eyebrows.
And you forget something:
Not this time 😃
the Qur’an is a direct revelation by Allah,
How do you know that the being which appeared to Muhammad was actually an angel? Recall that the prophet of Islam was seriously considering committing suicide after an encounter with the self-proclaimed Gabriel. Yet, the New Testament records the Blessed Virgin Mary reacting in a manner far more positive to his visit.
memorized by the Prophet (saw)
Memorization of a text does not prove divine origin. Jewish pupils would learn the Old Testament by heart, but Muslims generally hold the version that we have now to have been profoundly corrupted (with not a shred of evidence).
and which remains unchanged to this day.
A text remaining unchanged for a long period also does not prove divine origin. This would indicate the dedication of the Islamic community to maintain the Qur’an for future generations. If one believes a work to be the literal word of God with a copy eternally present in heaven, quite enough of an incentive exists to compell the umma to handle and pass on its holy book with extreme care and diligence.
Therefore the passage about Abraham building the Ka’aba is correct.
Please see above. 🙂

I m muslim
It is true that all Accusements of violence (true or false) make anyone be affraid of islam or may be hate muslims, the media did a good job to create and raise this hate.
However as i know the good teachings of catholics of peace and love and thwe wish of peace to all
Why dont we first try to know real islam and real muslims and after that choose to love them or hate them

Islam (what it is?) - “Islam” means (surrender; submission; obedience; peace)
All this meanings come from the origin word ,

To believe in the hereafter, day of judjment the hell and the heaven
And finally to believe in the destiny,
To believe in all this means to be muslim

Maria,

What country do you live in? That would give people insight. We never knew much of Islam before 9/11. And so now we know enough of different regions and different kinds of Islam.
