You are right! Great web site. Remind your friend that she is from a blbie-centered church. You are from a Christ-centered church. They have no Eucharist as commanded by Christ in John 6 and by St. Paul in 1 Corinthians 11. Her church is, what, 100 years old, max? Tell her that your parish priest can trace his ordination back to one of the twelve Apostles. Pretty cool, huh? How far back does her pastor go? 8-10 years?hi there everyone…
a free evangelical friend of mine just call me and all other catholics ritualistic pagans. she said that everything we do during mass is unbiblical and takes us further away from god. i know she is dead wrong, but how do i defend the church?
where can i find in scripture that we are a bible based religion?
thank you soo much

Tell her that Catholics use the entire bible, and the original bible, not the “censored” version that Luther altered. There are seven books of Old Testament that she has never seen. Granted, some Evangelicals almost ignore the OT, because it shows a continuum of God’s covenant with man from Genesis right through today. This calls to mind the antiquity of your faith, which her church completely lacks.
Mention to her that the bible, sacred as it is, amounts to essentially Cliffs Notes of the life of Christ. Witness: John 21:25
“Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written”.
So, everything is NOT in the bible. Since it is not, how does she find it out-who does she go to when she wants to know the parts not written in the bible? She must go to the same source that her church got the bible from: the Catholic church. Tell her that everything she has heard about the Catholic church is wrong, and you will be glad to correct her.
You are in the right place: Buy a copy of the Essential Catholic Survival Guide as well as Karl Keating’s book: Catholicism and Fundamentalism, both coincidentally available on this same site! Her Christian life has been horribly stunted, which she does not know, and it is actually her soul that is in more danger than yours, exactly because of her church’s ignorance and/or misinterpretation of John 6:53. You have eaten His Body and drunk His Blood. You have life within you. Does she?
You will likely talk forever without making a dent in her beliefs. PRAYER. She cannot resist the power of prayer on her behalf. Patrick Madrid, perhaps my favorite Catholic apologist and author of Search and Rescue, maintains that we should pray the same amount of time for someone as we plan on talking to them. Your work is cut out for you. Christ’s peace be always with you. PRAYER.
