Prot 101… I can’t remember which thread it was, but you posted that totally asinine and ludicrous statement that “Jesus was a Protestant”… :rotfl: :rotfl: WRONG:
Hello RobHorn,

You’re doing well but I wanted to provide the definition of protestant to see if Protestant101 could explain where Jesus fits into any of the descriptions.

Prot·es·tant
  1. any Western Christian who is not an adherent of a Catholic, Anglican, or Eastern Church.
  2. an adherent of any of those Christian bodies that separated from the Church of Rome during the Reformation, or of any group descended from them.
  3. (originally) any of the German princes who protested against the decision of the Diet of Speyer in 1529, which had denounced the Reformation.
  4. (lowercase) a person who protests.
–adjective 5. belonging or pertaining to Protestants or their religion.
  5. (lowercase) protesting.
Jesus taught for there to be one Church, with one Shepard. Explain how any protestant church follows this please?

May the peace of the Lord be with you,
Prodigal Son1

Me neither… like I said…its garbage fed to fools by fools.
Me thinks maybe he do. Surely seems that way.
Like I said; Jack Chick hate mongering like this won’t prove anything or get you anywhere. I am putting you on IGNORE.

**And wishing, as is just, to impose a restraint, in this matter, also on printers, who now without restraint,–thinking, that is, that whatsoever they please is allowed them,–print, without the license of ecclesiastical superiors, the said books of sacred Scripture, and the notes and comments upon them **of all persons indifferently, with the press ofttimes unnamed, often even fictitious, and what is more grievous still, without the author’s name; and also keep for indiscriminate sale books of this kind printed elsewhere; (this Synod) ordains and decrees, that, **henceforth, the sacred Scripture, and especially the said old and vulgate edition, be printed in the most correct manner possible; and that it shall not be lawful for any one to print, or cause to be printed, any books whatever, on sacred matters, without the name of the author; **nor to sell them in future, or even to keep them, unless they shall have been first examined, and approved of, by the Ordinary; under pain of the anathema and fine imposed in a canon of the last Council of Lateran: and, if they be Regulars, besides this examination and approval, they shall be bound to obtain a license also from their own superiors, who shall have examined the books according to the form of their own statutes. As to those who lend, or circulate them in manuscript, without their having been first examined, and approved of, they shall be subjected to the same penalties as printers: and they who shall have them in their possession or shall read them, shall, unless they discover the authors, be themselves regarded as the authors. And the said approbation of books of this kind shall be given in writing; and for this end it shall appear authentically at the beginning of the book, whether the book be written, or printed; and all this, that is, both the approbation and the examination, shall be done gratis, that so what ought to be approved, may be approved, and what ought to be condemned, may be condemned.
The above is from HERE
As you read through the decree, you will note that the purpose is to protect the Holy Scripture from spurious and untraceable copies of the Bible.
Please recognize at this time the printing press was revolutionizing the world by the ability to spread ideas at dizzying (relatively speaking) speeds.
There was no copyright law at this time. The Church’s decree requiring a License to print and disseminate the Bible really is nothing more than an early copyright Law.

Peace
James

Hey thanks James, I appreciate the info. I didn’t know the Council Of Trent material was online. I will look at this passage over the next while and get back to you soon. 👍

First, you give no reference for this “definition” and second, there are plenty of variant definitions to be found. The Bible describes Protestant concepts and practices since almost day one; especially in the ministry of Jesus.

You remind me of the Glass Cathedral Man preaching a sermon on “Grace” using the Oxford Dictionary!

I find it ironic that you dislike Jack Chick “hate mongering” as you put it, especially since Jack Chick has no problem spreading the hate through his pamplets.

Jesus taught us to love our enemies and I don’t believe Catholic and protestants to be enemies, therefore it should be easy to love those with a difference of opinions.

May the peace of the Lord be with you,
Prodigal Son1

Oh, that was my mistake. I usually provide links to my resources and forgot this once. Funny how you seemed to have judged me so quickly though. Where did you learn that?

Protestant

I have seen people who could barely speak English, from another country, and they bought the Bible on cassette from me so that they could learn English better. And as it turned out, she learned much more than “English!!”

When you say “very few people;” it borders on pretense and falsehood
According to you… but in reality an exception or two to the case hardly defines false pretenses or falsehood. You’re going to have to work a little harder to keep your boat afloat. Facts are facts. Given that so many people who’s mother tongue is English…and they are virtually clueless about scripture…my statement stands as originally made.

Like I said; Jack Chick hate mongering like this won’t prove anything or get you anywhere. I am putting you on IGNORE.
Thank you…for verifying and proving my point exactly!! The truth is the truth…and it will set you free!!

The first line is quite a mouthful. Hmmm, who are these “gullible ones” that all this has been “foisted” upon. You don’t make one bit of sense, much less prove anything that could be called “truth.”
I’m sorry if my vocabulary confounds you, and compound complex sentences are a struggle for you. Its not my problem to rectify.

But instead of dodging your question… I will tell you the gullible ones are: People like you who go to those sites with that farcical information…read it and accept it as “truth” without ever having checked it out on your own. You accept lies and untruth at face value as “truth”. It is foisted upon you by fools who accepted the same lies as truth, and they regurgitate it, just as you do.

I make plenty of sense…you just haven’t the acumen to deal with it…or the truth that I speak burns you to the core…and you can’t deal with it.
Perhaps the reason for your hate speech against Protestants is just that…You don’t have to press the panic button whenever you find someone with different beliefs than you; and that you cannot refute by the Bible
I do not engage in hate speech, hatemongering, or bigotry against protestants or anyone else. You are caught in a lie. I merely made a statement of truth that you object to. That is your problem. I don’t press any panic button…you’re not worthy of that action. I barely consider you to be more than a troll. You say that you come here to learn and discuss. This you do not do. All you have done is denigrate and criticize Catholics and responded snidely and attempted to play the victim. You object to being handled as you handle others. Tough. Get over yourself. I am not obligated to treat you as special. Not in the least.

I am the least “prejudiced” person you will ever meet. I do not judge a person on race, creed or denomination. But if you fly the battle flag and wave it in my face… I will come out to meet you on the battlefield…especially when I know that you are wrong. If you say that I am not as “nice” as some of the others here…in that you would be correct. I am a bit “Jesuit-like” in my beliefs, and if you or someone else can’t handle that…step out of the area.

You have been apprised on a number of occasions that “sola scriptura” is not valid, and the Bible is not the end all to be all, and your “repetitively redundant” remonstrations border on OCD.

You and your ilk defy scriptures yet attempt to hide behind them.
That you place yourself and your beliefs above all others…and far more learned people than yourself borders on severe pride and arrogance. That you claim to be superior in knowledge to learned scholars…who’s very lives were consumed with studies of scriptures and holy writings…is beyond the pale. I have refuted you on “biblical ground”…and thats what bothers you so much… You and your kind have the same foundation as dam a built with salt trying to hold back flood waters.

I truly hope you were brave enough to actually push the “ignore” button…but somehow I doubt it. Your ego won’t let you. 😃

I will remember you in my prayers.👍

I find it ironic that you dislike Jack Chick “hate mongering” as you put it, especially since Jack Chick has no problem spreading the hate through his pamplets.
Its is ironic…isn’t it…but I guess coming from Chick its not hatemongering…though that is all it is.
Jesus taught us to love our enemies and I don’t believe Catholic and protestants to be enemies, therefore it should be easy to love those with a difference of opinions.
I agree, and frankly most of my friends and acquaintances are not Catholics…and I have no problems with the fact that their religious beliefs are not the same as mine… We can even talk about it and not get rowdy…because no-one is ever “judgmental”.
May the peace of the Lord be with you,
Prodigal Son1
I pray that it will be so with all of us!!

Hey RobHom,

Have you seen this information on Jack Chick?

Hey RobHom,

Have you seen this information on Jack Chick?
Yes…I saw the information some time ago. I’ve been familiar with that trash for a long time…being from the South. Seems they are left mostly in public bathrooms… Go figure  I routinely throw it in the garbage where it belongs. I personally can’t see how any sentient being can buy into that hate-mongering and disgusting propaganda. Chick is an embarrassment to Christianity…nothing less, nothing more.
May the peace of the Lord be with you,
Prodigal Son1
And with you!!

The Bible is a Catholic book. Why do Protestents take books out, then raise a Catholic book to a higher level than the Church that assembled it?

Sounds like Protestents are the ones with the ones that have problems authority.

In Post # 357 of the Thread Protestant Questions About Purgatory Protestant101 brought up this point re: Catholics being taught to denigrate the authority of the Bible. I invite all to comment and to make clear the Catholic position re: the bible and the quotes on his posted link.

Protestant101 if this is your sole source for information I am not surprise that you have such a negative view of Catholics. If you would like to know the official Catholic Teachings on the Authority of the Bible, I strongly recommend looking at the Catechism of the Catholic Church. The section that will help you is Part one Sections 2 and 3. This is a good searchable site so you can look up things very easily.

Peace
James
Wow…I visited a friend’s non-denom service last week and heard maybe only 10% of the scripture that we get in a weekday Mass.

ATTENTION!!!

There have been some posts on this thread that are very disturbing to me. I started this thread with the intent that some of the wise and learned people here could address the mis-statements made in the originally linked article.
I am disappointed that some feel it is license for some rather un-christian remarks.

As the OP, I will ask everyone to back off a bit and settle down. Accusations and name calling is unwarrented.

That’s All

PEACE
James

Hello Ted,

Some in this thread won’t accept our word for things they haven’t researched themsevles so I am providing the information below to endorse your statements. Hopefully, it shows the Bible didn’t come out of itself to grant it’s own authority and certainly it shows the Bible did not fall out of the sky (to use a quote Steve Ray loves.;))

The first canon took place in the year 360AD. This was the first decision as to what letters/books were the inspired word of God.

The Council of Laodicea, c. 360, produced a list of books similar to today’s canon. This was one of the Church’s earliest decisions on a canon.

Pope Damasus, 366-384, in his Decree, listed the books of today’s canon.

The Council of Hippo, a local north Africa council of bishops created the list of the Old and New Testament books in 393 which is the same as the Roman Catholic list today.

The Council of Carthage, a local north Africa council of bishops created the same list of canonical books in 397. This is the council which many Protestant and Evangelical Christians take as the authority for the New Testament canon of books. The Old Testament canon from the same council is identical to Roman Catholic canon today. Another Council of Carthage in 419 offered the same list of canonical books.

Since the Roman Catholic Church does not define truths unless errors abound on the matter, Roman Catholic Christians look to the Council of Florence, an ecumenical council in 1441 for the first definitive list of canonical books.

The final infallible definition of canonical books for Roman Catholic Christians came from the Council of Trent in 1556 in the face of the errors of the Reformers who rejected seven Old Testament books from the canon of scripture to that time.

You can read this directly from the source by visiting this link.

Any of this information can be looked up from other sources if anyone doesn’t like the source I’m using.

LOL, you still remind me of that preacher! You both did the same thing. Well; atleast we could call it Protestant & Catholic unity. 👍

From the very post on this thread, even the title, there been numerous insults hurled by both sides.

And that is totally aside from the false “facts” and misinformation.

This is, without a doubt, one of the most uncharitable threads I have come across in quite some time on this forum.

It is a poor witness for both Catholic and non-Catholics alike.
