Hello RobHorn,Prot 101… I can’t remember which thread it was, but you posted that totally asinine and ludicrous statement that “Jesus was a Protestant”…![]()
WRONG:
Like I said; Jack Chick hate mongering like this won’t prove anything or get you anywhere. I am putting you on IGNORE.Me neither… like I said…its garbage fed to fools by fools.
Me thinks maybe he do. Surely seems that way.
The above is from HERE**And wishing, as is just, to impose a restraint, in this matter, also on printers, who now without restraint,–thinking, that is, that whatsoever they please is allowed them,–print, without the license of ecclesiastical superiors, the said books of sacred Scripture, and the notes and comments upon them **of all persons indifferently, with the press ofttimes unnamed, often even fictitious, and what is more grievous still, without the author’s name; and also keep for indiscriminate sale books of this kind printed elsewhere; (this Synod) ordains and decrees, that, **henceforth, the sacred Scripture, and especially the said old and vulgate edition, be printed in the most correct manner possible; and that it shall not be lawful for any one to print, or cause to be printed, any books whatever, on sacred matters, without the name of the author; **nor to sell them in future, or even to keep them, unless they shall have been first examined, and approved of, by the Ordinary; under pain of the anathema and fine imposed in a canon of the last Council of Lateran: and, if they be Regulars, besides this examination and approval, they shall be bound to obtain a license also from their own superiors, who shall have examined the books according to the form of their own statutes. As to those who lend, or circulate them in manuscript, without their having been first examined, and approved of, they shall be subjected to the same penalties as printers: and they who shall have them in their possession or shall read them, shall, unless they discover the authors, be themselves regarded as the authors. And the said approbation of books of this kind shall be given in writing; and for this end it shall appear authentically at the beginning of the book, whether the book be written, or printed; and all this, that is, both the approbation and the examination, shall be done gratis, that so what ought to be approved, may be approved, and what ought to be condemned, may be condemned.
Hey thanks James, I appreciate the info. I didn’t know the Council Of Trent material was online. I will look at this passage over the next while and get back to you soon. The above is from HERE
As you read through the decree, you will note that the purpose is to protect the Holy Scripture from spurious and untraceable copies of the Bible.
Please recognize at this time the printing press was revolutionizing the world by the ability to spread ideas at dizzying (relatively speaking) speeds.
There was no copyright law at this time. The Church’s decree requiring a License to print and disseminate the Bible really is nothing more than an early copyright Law. Peace James
First, you give no reference for this “definition” and second, there are plenty of variant definitions to be found. The Bible describes Protestant concepts and practices since almost day one; especially in the ministry of Jesus.Hello RobHorn,
You’re doing well but I wanted to provide the definition of protestant to see if Protestant101 could explain where Jesus fits into any of the descriptions.
May the peace of the Lord be with you,
Prodigal Son1
I find it ironic that you dislike Jack Chick “hate mongering” as you put it, especially since Jack Chick has no problem spreading the hate through his pamplets.Like I said; Jack Chick hate mongering like this won’t prove anything or get you anywhere. I am putting you on IGNORE.
Oh, that was my mistake. I usually provide links to my resources and forgot this once. Funny how you seemed to have judged me so quickly though. Where did you learn that?First, you give no reference for this “definition” and second, there are plenty of variant definitions to be found. The Bible describes Protestant concepts and practices since almost day one; especially in the ministry of Jesus.
You remind me of the Glass Cathedral Man preaching a sermon on “Grace” using the Oxford Dictionary!
According to you… but in reality an exception or two to the case hardly defines false pretenses or falsehood. You’re going to have to work a little harder to keep your boat afloat. Facts are facts. Given that so many people who’s mother tongue is English…and they are virtually clueless about scripture…my statement stands as originally made.I have seen people who could barely speak English, from another country, and they bought the Bible on cassette from me so that they could learn English better. And as it turned out, she learned much more than “English!!”
When you say “very few people;” it borders on pretense and falsehood
Thank you…for verifying and proving my point exactly!! The truth is the truth…and it will set you free!!Like I said; Jack Chick hate mongering like this won’t prove anything or get you anywhere. I am putting you on IGNORE.
I’m sorry if my vocabulary confounds you, and compound complex sentences are a struggle for you. Its not my problem to rectify. The first line is quite a mouthful. Hmmm, who are these “gullible ones” that all this has been “foisted” upon. You don’t make one bit of sense, much less prove anything that could be called “truth.”
I do not engage in hate speech, hatemongering, or bigotry against protestants or anyone else. You are caught in a lie. I merely made a statement of truth that you object to. That is your problem. I don’t press any panic button…you’re not worthy of that action. I barely consider you to be more than a troll. You say that you come here to learn and discuss. This you do not do. All you have done is denigrate and criticize Catholics and responded snidely and attempted to play the victim. You object to being handled as you handle others. Tough. Get over yourself. I am not obligated to treat you as special. Not in the least.Perhaps the reason for your hate speech against Protestants is just that…You don’t have to press the panic button whenever you find someone with different beliefs than you; and that you cannot refute by the Bible
Its is ironic…isn’t it…but I guess coming from Chick its not hatemongering…though that is all it is.I find it ironic that you dislike Jack Chick “hate mongering” as you put it, especially since Jack Chick has no problem spreading the hate through his pamplets.
I agree, and frankly most of my friends and acquaintances are not Catholics…and I have no problems with the fact that their religious beliefs are not the same as mine… We can even talk about it and not get rowdy…because no-one is ever “judgmental”.Jesus taught us to love our enemies and I don’t believe Catholic and protestants to be enemies, therefore it should be easy to love those with a difference of opinions.
I pray that it will be so with all of us!!May the peace of the Lord be with you,
Prodigal Son1

Yes…I saw the information some time ago. I’ve been familiar with that trash for a long time…being from the South. Seems they are left mostly in public bathrooms…
And with you!!May the peace of the Lord be with you,

Wow…I visited a friend’s non-denom service last week and heard maybe only 10% of the scripture that we get in a weekday Mass.In Post # 357 of the Thread Protestant Questions About Purgatory Protestant101 brought up this point re: Catholics being taught to denigrate the authority of the Bible. I invite all to comment and to make clear the Catholic position re: the bible and the quotes on his posted link.
Protestant101 if this is your sole source for information I am not surprise that you have such a negative view of Catholics. If you would like to know the official Catholic Teachings on the Authority of the Bible, I strongly recommend looking at the Catechism of the Catholic Church. The section that will help you is Part one Sections 2 and 3. This is a good searchable site so you can look up things very easily.
Peace
James
Hello Ted,The Bible is a Catholic book. Why do Protestents take books out, then raise a Catholic book to a higher level than the Church that assembled it?
Sounds like Protestents are the ones with the ones that have problems authority.
LOL, you still remind me of that preacher! You both did the same thing. Well; atleast we could call it Protestant & Catholic unity.Oh, that was my mistake. I usually provide links to my resources and forgot this once. Funny how you seemed to have judged me so quickly though. Where did you learn that?
