Catholics Asked to Stop Komen Donations

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — The Diocese of Little Rock is urging its members not to donate to a breast cancer foundation known for its fundraising races across the globe because the group supports Planned Parenthood.
The diocese says the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation, which has invested about $1 billion in cancer outreach and research, gives money to Planned Parenthood to hold breast exams and offer education to women in its clinics.
“Donors cannot control how an organization designates its funds,” a diocese statement reads. “Therefore, money donated for a specific service … directly frees up funds to support other areas of an organization’s agenda.”
Marianne Linane, director of the diocese’s “respect life” office, said those other agendas includes abortions and contraceptive services. The Catholic church’s policy is that abortion is wrong in every instance.

I absolutely have cut off my donations to this foundation as well as the American Cancer society. Some one definitely has to make this clear. Don’t just stop your donations…email or write them and tell them why you won’t give. cms.komen.org/stellent/contacts.aspx

I ask, are there any Cancer research agencies that don’t support PP? If not we had better start one or make a compromise and donate to the existing ones because it is unfair to withhold donations to end cancer for this reason alone.

Msgr. Hebert is a ROCK STAR in my book 👍

You should have heard his sermon at the “Rite of Election” - when he said “we don’t need any more second class Catholics, the quota is full” I wanted to stand up and shout AMEN.

It was nice to see a Cajun Msgr. -there are many Heberts (pronounced A-bear) down here.

That article is lying, the catholic church hasn’t thought that abortion is wrong in EVERY instance, how about when the mother’s life is in danger? Don’t they give the individual the choice then

The article is 100% correct. Abortion is wrong in every instance. It is not up to us to choose who lives and who dies.

But this thread is not about that. If you are unclear on the Church’s teachings about abortion, please start another discussion. This one is about Komen.

How can you make the argument that Komen “unquestionably promotes life”? With a year ending 2006 revenue of 207 million dollars at one percent that would be a significant donation to the abortion mill Planned Parenthood. This is considered “slim” by the Staunton News Leader. I guess it is a matter of prespective. With recent scientific data published in the Journal of Americian Physicians showing that abortions can be classified as carcinogens. In light of this information one has to question why Komen, which “unquestionably promotes life” would fund Planned Parenthood. In 2004 41,316 women lost their lives to breast cancer. In that same year 1.2 million infants were slaughtered by Planned Parenthood. I wonder how many of those same women had to cope with the grief of their cancer and the grief of their abortion?

Maybe the editorial board at the Staunton News Leader once it gets over its “outrage” can thank the wisdom of The Catholic Church.

This is a first rough draft. I have no writing skills so any ideas
would be helpful.

Peace,
David

Nope.

If compromise kills then one does not compromise. 🤷

Rather than supporting any Komen fundraising, the Respect Life Apostolate encourages you to direct your donations to local hospitals that provide breast cancer services including detection, treatment, research and patient support groups.

Donations made in this manner would not only stay entirely in Arkansas (25 percent of Susan G. Komen funds go to the national foundation where some grants are made to clinics providing abortion), they would eliminate the administrative funds for a middle broker. Thus, there would be more money available to spend on detection, treatment, prevention and research.

A list of such centers includes, but is not limited to, the following:

I believe the Catholic Church allows for an abortion in the case of an ectopic pregnancy where both mother and baby would die unless the pregnancy is terminated. That is the only case and I could not swear that even that is allowed.

I could not find any support of PP from St. Baldrick’s which raises funds to find a cure for childhood cancer.

Nope not even then. The drug cannot be taken to end the pregnancy, the tube must be removed allowing the child to die by “indirect” means.
