Catholics, Christians, Muslims, whatever you are -- How Do You View Buddhism?

I’m a cradle Catholic.I left the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church for 25 years to study Zen Buddhism in this country and in Japan. Zen may be practiced outside of the vehicle of Buddhism, but I became Buddhist. Just as I was ready to bring the practice to my home town [as expected by the Roshi], the Blessed Mother stepped in and I returned to the Church–complete with a full burden of oppression, which Our Lord is pleased to let me continue to carry.

What I can contribute from all that is this: Enlightenment is not Salvation.

The Catholic Church rejects the doctrines and beliefs of Buddhism, as all Christians should. First, it is based on pantheistic Brahminism. There were several Vendantic movements that began between the 8th and 5th centuries B.C. with the same morbid view that conscious life is a burden and not worth the living, and that true happiness is to be had only in a state like dreamless sleep free from all desires, free from conscious action. This fact alone should be a flag for all Christians that this is a religion devised out of the despair of man, and not based on a revelation of God’s love, forgiveness and hope.
