Catholic website drawing thousands back to faith

Phoenix, Apr 7, 2008 / 10:28 am (CNA).- In less than three weeks, 3,000 Catholics returned to the Church in the Diocese of Phoenix due to the effort of a new lay apostolate, CatholicsComeHome.org. The program consists of a website and commercials aired on local television that effectively portray the truth and goodness of the Catholic Church.

In an interview with CNA, Catholics Come Home, Inc. founder and president, Tom Peterson explained that the ads are designed to take people to the website, CatholicsComeHome.org, where they can find answers to questions about Church teachings, and also to put them into contact with their local parish to be led home, back to the Catholic Church.

This sounds promising! I had often wondered whether or not anyone was using advertising for something like this. It works for a lot of other stuff, so it is nice to see it working to bring people back to the Church. I’ll have to keep an eye on this and see how it develops.

I book marked the site and am reading over it very interesting stuff…

Money is the problem always. They won’t try another ad till next year? As good as the ad is, presentation-wise, rolling out 1 or so a year won’t do it.

Christian Scientists are a tiny group yet theie ads are on BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) regulary. 4th largest media market in US - that is an expensive, expensive buy. This is a tiny group. Not like the Mormons whose ads are everywhere. Yet they can afford too.

American Idol? The Super Bowl? Let’s get real. As cutting edge as putting an ad on those venues would be, sounds like it will never happen.

I guess the question is where to spend their limited resources next? Do they target a nominally catholic area lioke say Boston? Or risk it and go for a much cheaper sparsley catholic media buy in Salt lake or Birmingham. IMO the latter.

I think its more important to get the message out - market in “cheaper” but growing areas rather than save up for 5 years to do a national buy. JMHO.

But I’d say if this group wants to go for it, save their money. Forget a Boston or SLC buy. Do a national American Idol buy. I think the ad would be “shocking” in a good way and would garner far, far more response than local buys could.

I sent my sister to this site and it has helped answer a ton of questions and teach her things about the faith. Never mind the fact I was telling her these same things! I think this is a great thing.

I sent this link out to many of my friends and family. My pastor loved it so much, he now has a link on our parish website, and in the bulletin.

This fellow was on Relevant Radio this morning and they played the audio from one of the ads.

Sure beats the daylights out of the “Brother Tom Reunion” ads that played a few years back. Hope it gets widely circulated. Kudos!

It works!

It’s bringing people back to the faith and winning new converts!

Let’s use it very rarely!

Reminds me of when I tried to start witnessing around town. Every excuse you could think of was brought out

Did he run the 2 minute version or the 30 second-ish version of those ads? I’ve seen the 30 second version on EWTN a few times?

Does anyone know if permission is needed by catholicscomehome.com for anyone to just buy a commercial spot at their local radio station for the audio version of these tv ads to be aired? Perhaps you could just play the audio from the videos like the way mentioned above?

It would be awesome if a movement could get started around the country to get parishes to raise money to do this. I don’t see that being a difficult task. The work is done for you. You just have to take it to the radio station. Thoughts?!

I first saw the ads, 2 different versions, on EWTN a few times and found it very inspiring. It mentions a few hard truth about the Catholic Church, like it was founded by Christ and been in existent for 2000+ yrs. Facts that I’m sure alot of Catholics don’t know about. I thought only EWTN has this kind of ads.

I’ve never seen a Catholic advertisement of the faith before and this was very surprising. It’s great to hear that it’s also played on secular channels.

the ads and website are both great:thumbsup:

EWTN ran the ads over the course of the Holy Father’s visit to the US.

i cannot wait to see more ads in other markets, just imagine the outpouring of grace when more people realize that Home is the One Church & live the faith!

Yes, the website and ads are great. I have seen them on EWTN and heard them on our local catholic radio station. I love the website. We ahve gone to most pages and the videos on there are very well done. if it can bring home one Catholic a month, then every two weeks, every week, …

One of the Catholic hospitals in our area has been advertising the Catholic aspect of the hospital during NASCAR. I have seen the ad for the past several weekends. Very well done, right down to the nuns in habits on the knees praying in the pew before the altar. 👍
