Not into it. The Mass should connect us to the Church that stretches back millennia, not tie itself to whatever the latest pop culture fad is.

Which isn’t to say there’s not a place for some sick beats or whatever the kids call them these days. If you want to go to a concert, go to a concert. Just don’t turn the Mass into a concert.
 
I’m not into it either. That doesn’t make me unaware that there are others who are. Can’t both be available?
 
Either version of the Didache Bible is a very solid Catholic Bible.

IMO, the Didache Bible is the best modern Catholic study Bible available to Catholics.

When the Ignatius Catholic Study Bible (ICSB) OT is finished, the Didache will be supplanted by that as the best study Bible for Catholics, IMO.

The Haydock Bible is also a tremendous Catholic study Bible - by far the best from a traditional perspective. But it’s a 19th century Bible using an 18th century translation, so it’s quite dated - it’s also very rare and pretty expensive to buy online… I wish I owned a Haydock Bible.
 
The 2020’s are going to be great for translations for English speaking Catholics.

The full ICSB should be here in the early 20’s.

The new NAB NT translation is slated for 2025.

And the second edition of the LOTH is slated for mid 20’s as well.

I plan on purchasing all 3 as soon as they’re available. Something to look forward to!

I’m having a hard time understanding your question. I’m Catholic; I believe in the Church, that it was founded by Christ, and that ‘The gates of hell will not prevail against it’.

If the gates of hell won’t prevail against it; I’m not concerned with the local non denom with it’s bright lights and Christian praise concert atmosphere (CD in the lobby!).

The simple truth is that the non denoms are nice…certainly enjoyable, but at least the ones I’ve been to have been like evangelical light. It’s not even close in terms of depth when you compare it to a Catholic church, any Catholic church, that has the Real Presence.

If you know about the Real Presence, then everything else is just superficial.

We may get smaller, because people are distracted by this. It’s happened before. Arius grabbed a bunch of people. We were never promised an easy time. But the Holy Spirit has this.
 
The hymns in the 1st edition are not the hymns from the Latin typical edition, which is a major defect of the LOTH.

Also the Bible translation used is dated and doesn’t match what’s used at Mass.

Lastly, the 1975 LOTH was hastily made using an older translation methodology which the Church has since changed.

Remember how the pre-2011 Mass translation was compared to the one used now? That’s going to be the difference between the 1st and 2nd ed LOTH… The 2nd edition is going to follow the Latin version underlying it much more closely.

Almost all of the actual work has actually been done… It’s just in the process of being approved, and I believe they are waiting for the 2025 NAB too…

Yes, when LOTH2 is promulgated all who are bound to recite the LOTH will need to move to the new translation.

Say the LOTH2 is released in January 2025 - the Church will probably say that as of Dec 1st 2025 all who are bound to recite the LOTH must have made the switch to LOTH2 by then.

And from the link I gave you touching on the hymns: “Many of the nearly 300 Latin hymns, some dating back to the early centuries of the Church, have never had an official English translation. ICEL is working to translate all of these hymns in a manner that is faithful to the Latin that is both metrical and able to be chanted.”

I’m looking forward to LOTH2 even more than I am for the complete ICSB - and trust me I am filled with anticipation for both!

One of the wonderful things about LOTH2 will be it’s use of the NAB5.

There will be a new Lectionary sometime between 2025-2030 which will use NAB5.

So by 2030 a Catholic will be able to go to Mass and hear the Scripture reading, open their LOTH and read the Scripture, then open their Bible and study the Scripture - and the Scripture passages will match exactly in all 3 places.

It will make memorizing Scripture so much easier. It’s gonna be incredible.
 
i have a friend who is luthern but thinks like a catholic. she says that in her service they have communion but i ask her if she believes that its christ and she says that she believes it christ. i am a little confused because people tell me that lutherns dont believe in the real presence. i need to evangelize her but dont know how since she believes jesus is present in her service.
 
By saying “ and my Bible I use, period”, you’re still talking about the green one, right?

The Church is a 2,000 year old institution with 1.2 billion members…

The Catholic Church will be here till the end of time, and I’d bet my life and every member of my families lives on it.

No, there’s nothing wrong with the Bible you have now.

And it’s gonna be much more than a few years - close to a decade, or maybe even a decade.
 
Nope. Not worried about that at all.

Abused, persecuted, driven underground maybe, but not closing.

Then why worry about the continued existence of the Church when you have Christ’s promise?

Why go to a non denominational church when you have the Real Presence?

Not trying to be snarky. Honestly confused.

We have a non denom close to us. It has a riveting speaker as a pastor, lots of clubs, and a great praise band.

But the pastor ultimately can slip into theological error and they don’t have the real presence.

I kind of feel sorry for them.
