Catholics Decry Anti-Christianity in Israel

Protest “Horrible Offenses” on TV

JERUSALEM, FEB. 19, 2009 (Zenit.org).- Leaders of the Catholic Church in the Holy Land are condemning the “revolting attacks” against Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary, broadcast by Israel’s Channel 10 television.

A joint communiqué issued Wednesday explains, “In these days, during a night show on Channel 10, a series of horrible offenses were launched against our faith and consequently against us, Christians.”

The communiqué was signed by the Latin patriarch of Jerusalem and the Franciscan custos of the Holy Land, among others.

“The show directed its attacks to the holiest figures of our Christian belief in an attempt, as the director of the show himself specifically declared, to destroy Christianism,” the communiqué stated.

I am thoroughly saddened at what is happening in Israel when it comes to our Faith. This is not the first time that action was taken against the symbols of catholicism.😦

It is an outrage and where is the moral indignation of the world for this behavior?

I have said this many times. The oppressed have become the oppressor. And it looks like they can do anything they want to do. I hope and pray we do do no tlose our holy sites…:byzsoc:

You might look at the Franciscans in charge of the Holy Lands website

The list all of the attacks and the harrassment that Israel allows to be done to Christian civilians

**Hezbollah has condemned an Israeli TV channel for airing a blasphemous show that offends Christianity, Jesus Christ and Virgin Mary (PBUT). **

In a Thursday statement, the Lebanese resistance movement described the incident as an ‘offense against the rights of a holy messenger of god’, IRNA reported from Beirut.

It was not surprising to see ‘Zionists’ broadcast such sacrilegious material, given their history, which is filled with ‘the massacre of prophets, destruction of mosques and churches and offensive behavior toward Islamic and Christian sanctities,’ the statement said

I do realize that. I suppose they would decry anything against Israel.

The sad part is that Christians in the Middle East is no safe haven anywhere…

Yes they are ,but they are also telling the truth about Israel
Code:
You are speaking the truth also…I hope and hope that Israel doesn’t so turn so much within themselves that they can only see protecting themselves only and not worry about anybody else. this is the a bit scary…

Let us pray…

It seems all I read are catholics upset with israel. Evangelical Christians are totally supportive.

When I hear a non-Catholic/Orthodox/liberal Protestant Christian of prominence - as in an evangelical - condemn this then I will think it is indeed perhaps over the line.

An evangelical co-worker had no problem as this is a private station. She feels the catholics are upset as a tit-for-tat over the Williamson thing.

Catholics may be trying to stir something here that is not here.

I doubt that the Franciscans are trying to stir up anything at all…they are reporting the day to day harassment that the Christians face

Evangelicals I know see this as anti-Semitic catholics trying to stir up trouble.

So far only the catholics are protesting. Stung after Williamson and the growing oppoition to Pius 12 being canonized?

Now evangelicals seem to be the first to call foul on anti-Chritian efforts in this country especially and beyond too. I’ve spoken to several and they are being reasonable. This is a private station. Not an official outlet.

The question they ask, and i heard this on a Chritian call-in show, why are the Catholics making such a fuss? Trying to divert attention from something?

If you will note the times this has started it was long before the current sitution

I guess you are content to hurl rocks at anything catholic no matter how esteemed the person that writes the article is?

I hardly see the Jews or Evangelicals as enemies

There is none so blind at he who just won’t see

Why should heresy be intolerant of blasphemy? They often go hand in hand.

From the BBC…who is hardly pro catholic

You continue to dance around.

Catholics are making this an issue because of new hints of anti-Semitism in the Catholic church over recent issues. That hint is always below the surface and damning IMO. Just be deep into history. Read, read read.

But evangelicals are, IMO, the bellweather on this. And the few I’ve heard on radio and know personally are attacking the Catholics and - not Israeli seculari TV on this. For fomening a false issue to divert the the anti-Semitism now being exposed openly in the church. Pius 12, the SPPX.

It is a diversion by the CC IMO - and that is why evangelical Christians are not foisiting a false “perseuction” over this incident.

IMO this says a lot more about the CC than the secular Israeli TV source. Like who is zooming whom and who is tryiong to divert attention/divert the argument. Ain’t the Christians - well except for some Catholics.
