Catholics Defend French Cathedral de Lyon During Homosexual “Kiss-In”

LYONS, June 17, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Approximately 200 young Catholics came to the defense of the Cathedral of Lyons, France, during a “kiss-in” protest held by homosexuals in front of the building last month.

The homosexuals reportedly came on the eve of the “World Day Against Homophobia” in May to kiss each other in front of the cathedral, presumably in protest against the Catholic Church’s 2,000-year-old condemnation of homosexual sex acts.

In a video recently released by ACI Prensa, the counter-protesters can be seen forming a line several layers deep in front of the cathedral, holding up crucifixes, the flag of Vatican City, and a large banner stating “No More Catholophobia.” They chanted slogans such as “Saint Jean (the Cathedral) is ours!” and “Europe, Youth, Christianity!”

In video recordings of the event the homosexual demonstrators are seen jeering, blaspheming, and insulting the Catholics, while the Catholic counter-demonstrators are seen kneeling, praying, and singing hymns

And they wonder why in your face Homosexualists draw Catholic wrath as opposed to innofensive homo sexuals and those who suffer from SSA.This type of action in front of a Catholic Cathedral is just part of the larger culture war and if a few young Catholics get angry enough and let testosterone rule the day things could get very dangerous for the homosexualist radicals.I’d love to see these little cowards try this outside a mosque.They o it in front of Catholic Churches because Christianity espouses prayer instead of violence but I am proud of these young Catholics who would not let these desecrators enter and desecrate the Church which is precisely what happened in Montreal when "feminist"idiots decorated the inside of a cathedral with used tampons and one parishoner who was swinging a crucifix kept them away from the Tabernacle which they were attempting to desecrate.

This Catholic’s patience grows thinner by the day.
 
These young Catholics give me hope for the future! 👍 Praise God that they responded to the jeers and insults with charity.

This is part of the larger culture war between morality and ultra-humanism. May good Catholics and people of morality everywhere continue to stand up for what is right!

Amen to your saying that ‘I’d love to see these little cowards try this outside a mosque’ ! The homosexuals would be in BIG TIME trouble with the Moslems if they tried it!

I remember that ‘feminist demo’ at ‘Marie Reine du Monde’, the Catholic Cathedral of Montreal. That was horrendous! There were some courageous male tourists who put themselves between the ‘feminazis’ and the Tabernacle, to protect the Blessed Sacrament from profanation.

I’m with you, Soutane…my ‘Catholic patience’ is getting thinner, too! We have to stand up for Our Lord and for His Church [it’s not ‘our Church’, as misguided Catholics say], even if we must physically fight! We’re supposed to be the ‘CHURCH MILITANT’ , not the ‘Church Wimp’! :mad:

I moved to New Brunswick nearly 17 years ago but was born in a place not far from Montreal. I’m surprised I haven’t heard about it…

I’m not sure there was any intention to enter the cathedral. Certainly it wasn’t mentioned in the LifeSite article, or even in the Agence France-Presse article:

About 200 gay campaigners gathered outside the cathedral were heckled by dozens of counter protesters, including a group of skinheads wearing dark blue uniforms and gloves who gave a Nazi salute.

Police and paramilitary gendarmes kept the two groups apart, as they shouted slogans at each other in a face off that lasted more than two hours.

From both articles, it sounds like a typical protest rally and counter protest. Despite the LIfeSite headline, I don’t see any defense occurring unless you consider the counter protest to be a “defense of honor.” But I think the counter protesters simply gave the rally more attention than it would have achieved otherwise.

Ahh, I love how they mention neo-Nazis…and then later “The Catholic protesters…” Shoddy reporting. Makes it seem like the Catholics are the neo-Nazis. An excellent example of how not to write an article.

And, yes, I am a professional journalist, in case you’re wondering.

Edited to add: The better way to write it would be, “Several groups were represented in the counter-protesters. Among these were neo-Nazis…” To do otherwise makes it seem that the neo-Nazis and the Catholics were one and the same. Of course, this is ludicrous if you understand anything about neo-Nazi ideology (not Catholic-friendly) and Catholic theology (incompatible with neo-Nazi ideals). But you cannot presume that your reader will understand that the two are different groups. To omit the statements delineating “several groups” means that you effectively lump them all together, which is disingenuous.

Yes, its not something I would have done. On the other hand, its not unusual for news organizations to mention the presence of black-clad anarchists when they turn up at counter protests here in the US. My guess is that its a way to juice up the article.

Of course it is. Neo-Nazis protesting a gay kiss-in is very sensational. Sensational stories sell.

However, the reporter did a poor job. In addition to what I mentioned above, saying a Hail Mary hardly qualifies as “heckling.” Furthermore, the only person quoted is the president of Gay Pride Lyon. Where is a quote from the protesters? Hmmm…

Barb ,you’re my kind of Catholic.Sometimes it is necessary to kick the butts of those who profane the House of our Father.After all our Brother did it.When does the next Crusade start?.And no timid finger wagging please.Because I’m sick of Kumbaya Catholics too.These Catholic kids will make the little twerps think twice about pulling that stunt again.I’d make friends with people at the local mosque and have a formal defense treaty agreed to.

Yes, Our Lord was NOT A WIMP! He came from the tribe of Juda [symbol of the Lion], thr tribe of King David! And besides that, the ancient Jews HAD TO FIGHT in order to survive as a people!

And yeah, ‘when does the next Crusade start’? If I were in better physical shape, I’d be ready to KICK SOME SERIOUS BUTT if any homosexual twerps tried to get into, say, St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City! I’d take 'em by the scruff of the neck, ‘throw them out bodily’, and tell 'em, ‘You come back when you learn some respect for Our Lord’s House…and REPENT OF YOUR SIN while you’re at it!’

Lapell-if you don’t mind an American’s ‘stealing Soutane’s thunder’, I’ll tell you what I remember about the feminist ‘demo’ in Montreal.

It happened on ‘International Women’s Day’, which is in early March [can’t think of the date offhand]. There was a march in Montreal, and some of them invaded the Cathedral and began vandalizing it by throwing ‘used’ sanitary pads around and tearing up Mass books.

They may have done some damage in the sanctuary area under the dome. When they approached the Tabernacle, which was in the apse of the church, some brave male American tourists put themselves between Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament and the would-be profaners, so He was saved.

I think the demonstrators were arrested for what they did/tried to do.
 
I believe that the reason for the homosexual protest in front of the cathedral was that the protesters were, in some way, reaching out for help. Even though it came through something as awkward as a protest.

I think we too often focus on exteriors and forget the sacredness of the human being. We focus on the actions of individuals rather than trying to discern the heart of one who feels abandoned by God.

As Catholics, are first and primary action is to show to a dying world the love and mercy of Christ! Remember, God did not choose us and then set us free to do as we please. No. He chose us to be ambassadors of Christ and to be instruments of His grace and love no matter how difficult or unpleasant it may be for us. That is why Christ is so rigid when He calls us to take up our crosses and deny ourselves. We cannot serve Christ and our own passions. It’s one or the other, and we must choose who we will follow each and every day.

It** was** a protest. If anyone of them were looking for help, the youth helped them by affirming the moral teaching of the Church. It is no act of charity to affirm people in their mortal sin. Such “charity” paves the road to Hell.
