Catholics favor "gay marriage" according to new poll

Jared. I hope you realize someday that what you have just described is secular humanism. It’s OK to struggle with the Bible. I think we are meant to do that. But we aren’t meant to simply reject it.

We are all sinners and we all deserve the greatest punishment. It’s not just the people of Sodom and Gomorrah, it is us as well. We are no better than them. We recognize this in the Mass when we ask for God’s mercy. If we could only see ourselves through God’s eyes, what horrible wretches we must look like. For example, how many of us are practicing chastity given the sexual temptations that surround us?

The secular world flatters us and tells us what “good” people we are. Don’t believe it. The saints are those that sacrifice themselves for others. This comes from a love of God and a love of others. When you accept God’s love, the anger slowly drains away. I know because I am writing from personal experience, and until recently held the same beliefs that you have.

Put all your trust in Jesus. May God bless you.

Women participate in the Catholic Church. That is only limited in teaching without the priest’s consent, or giving the homily which is only for the priest.

The New Testament teaches all foods are clean. It’s not what goes into a man that defiles him, it’s what comes from within a man.

We do not stone anyone to death and we are taught to love all people. That means loving all sinners, yet rejecting the sin.

Moving away from the Bible to adopt a more rational way of life is wrong, just as moving away from the Church to adopt a more rational way of life is wrong. Where does your rational get it’s authority? I fail to see it as following Christ.

Not only is that train of thought not what the Catholic Church teaches, I believe it’s not what the Lutheran Church teaches either.

How can you not care what the Bible says, yet hold Catholics to your interpretation of scriptures? Can you sincerely not see the double standard?

It’s not about ‘‘rights’’. I cannot recognise something that simply does not exist. Personally I don’t care one bit if a pair of homosexuals want to go to the town hall, spout some romantic words and have a JP stamp their license. I simply cannot call that a marriage.

The Catholic Church recognises the marriages of those of other faiths as valid. What it cannot do is give recognition to something that does not exist.

Go right ahead. I can only see that being a problem in a few cases where a Catholic is marrying someone of your particular brand of neopaganism. Even then, I wouldn’t think it’d be too much of a problem.
 
I can see what the prior poster was trying to say about divorce. Yes, it’s betweeen a man and a woman, but it is also sinful. So is artificial contraception and adultery. Should we also look to make these things illegal…since it goes against Church teaching? I can understand the thinking that gay marriage is wrong, but that does not mean it needs to be illegal…and I don’t see the Church looking to make those other things illegal. In addition, laws allowing gay marriage does not force gay marriage within the Catholic Church.

I still fail to see how that matters. The most anti-Catholic organizations in the world could have been behind the funding of this poll and it wouldn’t mean that the numbers shouldn’t be discussed. Even if they are slightly skewed, which isn’t even necessarily true, they certainly aren’t coming from no where. The church does polls of things like this from time to time as well and it is pretty clear that American Catholics don’t faithfully adhere to all of the Church’s teachings.

I personally don’t trust the numbers from this “poll” which is not even a poll. It is a study of previous polls which did not even all ask the same questions. In addition, the results are being reported in an inaccurate way by equating “civil union” with “gay marriage”. And misleading polls like this are used to shift public opinion by creating a sort of “peer pressure”.

It also creates a false “news cycle” that pushes once again the “gay marriage” agenda onto the public. People begin to feel that there is a momentum behind “gay marriage” which is what the promoters of this agenda want. The group that released this poll has no legitimacy, but their “poll results” are being announced in mainstream newspapers like USAToday. This is a P.R. campaign. They are getting free advertising through the ploy of using a “poll” to create fake news.
