Bingo. On top of which the guy is an isolationist and wants to legalize drugs and prostitution. I am the biggest Consitutionalist you will find, but this guy is so far off the mark, he’s nuts. On economic policies, he might be OK; other than that, no way. And zero chance of winning.
NOOOOOO HHEEEEEE DOOOESNNN"T

GOod Lord.

He wants to decriminalize them AT THE FEDERAL LEVEL because he believes they can more adequately be controlled at the state level. You know, 10th amendment and all that.

Not the same thing as “legalizing” them. There is a difference. Learn it.

It’s not fortune telling nor “Crystal balling”. There are some in society that have extensive experience and knowledge of campaigns and electuons and make it their busienss to accurately predict outcomes. It’s called prognostication (spelling?). It’s no different than predicting outcomes of sporting events. Ron Paul will not be the Republican nominee. He will not be Presdient. Rick Perry will be the nominee. Write it down and take me to task later.
He’ll still be getting my vote. Then, when Romney, Obama, or Perry are president in a couple years and continue the big government spending, ignoring the problems with the fed, foreign wars, social security, medicare, nothing new gets done on abortion, I will come back and say “I told you so. You wasted your vote on a guy who made promises he had no intention of keeping.”

That’s not a Vatican source. And the Wikipedia piece does not state the Church’s official position on the war, rather it offers a reporter’s opinion of the Pope’s opinion of the war with a citation so vague as to be useless. 🤷
LOL Then, I will allow rhetorical questions to go unanswered rather than argue them.

Uh,no, there isn’t. If you take away the laws forbidding something then it is legal until the States make it illegal. Which a number of Paul supporters hope some States will not do. This isn’t as much about States Rights as it is about legalization of drugs. Pot the first drug of choice right now (followed closely by coke). Has been for a long time now for Paul supporters.

The list of wars the Church declares to be unjust is like the list of people the Church declares to be in Hell.

No, if you take away the FEDERAL laws on the books, then the STATES can still do something about it.

Nice last bit quip. Can you at least try to be civil? Most Paul supporters love liberty and are tired of the big government that the Republicans and Democrats keep forcing on them.

There you go again, cluttering up the discussion and confusing the issue by, uh… discussing things and citing to facts and stuff.

Just what about “There may be a legitimate diversity of opinion even among Catholics about waging war and applying the death penalty, but not however with regard to abortion and euthanasia.” do you find ambiguos?

If, as you say the Church tells us whether a war is just is not why would the Pope tell us there could be a legitimate diversity of opinion?
There are only two types of wars: just wars and unjust wars. The Pope is saying that there can be a “diversity of opinion” among Catholics about waging JUST WARS. There are certain objective criteria that must be met in order for any war to be considered just. I highly doubt our current foreign misadventures meet those requirements but perhaps it is time for the bishops to make that more clear.

Where in his statement is the word “just” used? . He also issued his statement when both the Iraqi and Afghan he wars were in progress. .

Well, the Pope is not talking about unjust wars. There can be no “diversity of opinion” on the waging of unjust wars. Waging unjust wars is a mortal sin. Since the Pope is not talking about unjust wars and there are only two types of wars, just and unjust, then the Pope is talking about JUST WARS. And the fact that he issued this statement when both the Iraqi and Afghan wars were in progress in no way lends any validity to your specious argument. You are cherrypicking a statement and then misrepresenting it. Read ALL of the last two Pope’s statements regarding our preemptive, interventionist wars.

But…but…what about “hope” and “change”??

I didn’t say that he’d win the WH, either, so your prediction is as valid as any. My own sense is that he’s too far right to be elected, that the GOP is close to going off the edge with their catering to the TeaPartyists and the religious right.
No, no. I know you didn’t say that I predicted that Perry would take the WH. I think it was Prodigal. I’m sure he meant no malice, just a loose statement. No biggie. I’m just trying to be clear because I’m already pretty far out on the limb with my prediction. I don’t want it extending out any further. I know I’m wound a bit tight, but that’s how I roll.

Yes, nothing is declared. All we have are the opinions (though learned) of bishops, priests, or in some cases, the Holy Father.

Yea!! Scott is talking to me!! I totally admire your position. Principles are useless unless we’re willing to stand by them especially when it might cost us something. Lord knows, I’ve taken positions that were unpopular amongst my liberal friends. It cost me dearly. So, in a weird sort of way, we have a great deal in common. Oh, oh, I don’t mean to insult you by insinuating that you and I have anything in common. 😉

Keep up the good fight.

I post Church statments , you post only your opinions and then accuse me of cherry picking. You position is untenable. it is obvious you nver researched what the Church actually teaches.

You pick one or 2 lines out of one or two cardinal’s statements to justify your opinions contrary to the Pope’s attitude. Wec try to explain the Vatican and Pope’s stands. Socialism is not an inherent evil by any stretch any more than Capitalism: The Popes have spoken against the Extremes of Each including the Unregulated World Financial Collapses of 10/87 and especially 2008. Socialism, which works well in every nation, has Never caused such a national or international collapse. Remember that the Wordwide Great Deppression of 1929 was Direct result of blatant unregulated “Free Market” speculation, with tiny or no Money backing. The Deppression Changed World History, Was principal in Hitler’s rise and WW II, etc., etc. Why ignore extreme capitaism, while generically attack socialism? And why support Some Wars as Jusdtifiable, when the World and Church view them as totally Wrong? Your minority viewpoints are against Church and Public attitudes. Please stop telling us we are wrong; CAF is for Exchanges of Ideas, not picturing the USCCB, the Vatican, the Church of justifying something it does Not, or just opinins.
  • No One Allows Capital Punishment except about 5 countries and Some of our States. We can have our own opinions, as Cardinal Ratzinger wrote, but not attack basic Church Teachings wordwide on wars, Capital Punishment, or universal socialism and normal capitalism, Bob. Peace, Love

Really? Are you familiar with this quote: “No one can be at the same time a sincere Catholic and a true socialist.” from Pius XI? Are you aware that the problem with capitalism is the actions of individual capitalists working within the capitalist system? The problem with socialism is the socialist system itself. The Church does not condemn capitalism as such, but recognizes that there must be some restraints put on the capitalist system. The Church does not treat socialism in the same way and for good reason:

It is because socialists have elevated the material side of man over the spiritual side and made the production of goods the organizing principle of society. Socialism is condemned because it never abandoned its roots in a materialistic philosophy, ultimately grounded in atheism. And as long as it remains really socialism it will always have that cast to its principles. Incidentally, this is why European socialist parties have so often jettisoned their distinctive economic programs, but do not abandon their hostility to the Church, to protection of unborn life, to Christian marriage, and so on. The atheism and anti-Chrisitian ideology that lies behind all true socialism remains, even when socialist politicians have embraced many of the exploitive economic practices of capitalism.

I recommend that you read the whole article…mind you, I’m not sold on distributism, but I think the author explains the encylical of Pius xi very well.

I admire anyone who holds to principle in the face of great opposition, as long as the principles are Godly and just.
