Environmentalism has become earth worship. The destruction of our economies and the role back and restraint of technology will only bring human misery.

Going green = global warming to which some absolutely refuse to believe no matter what.

Isn’t that cool? I had read that Vatican was probably going to be the first country to be run on completely renewable resources. Hey. I was impressed. 🙂
The Church seems to take a long time to make certain decisions.Mostly because the decisions the world wants Her to make are WRONG.But,when it comes to the stuff that is really good for us,…She takes the lead every time.
I hope my fellow Catholics see this, too.
I posted a thread about the stewardship of God’s creation, along these same lines. It got slanted towards animal rights and factory farming. This all embraces what has been recently called the “NEW” 7 deadly sins.Which are old hat. But, a very current theme. One which effects us all in very profound ways.It shows just how “PRO-LIFE” the Church really is.It’s more than just murdering babies,… it’s ALL life, inclusive.Period.
B16; aka Papa ratzi; aka Pope Benedict XVI ROCKS!!

…The Vatican has gone Solar…
The Vatican is powered by the Son–the Light of the World, (see John 8:12) in co-orporation with the Father and Holy Spirit. Sun, light and solar panels in the Vatican hint at a spiritual reality: we draw our energy from above.

Benedict sees environmentalism as part of a deeper spiritual shift away from what he called in Australia the “folly of consumerism,” toward a lifestyle rooted in the traditional virtues of self-sacrifice and solidarity. The pope also sees care for the earth as part of a continuum of moral truths, including defense of human life and dignity.

It seems to me that as Christians we should be doing all we can to improve the conditions of our environment. As Catholics,we should be at the front of this movement and not trailing behind the neo-pagans and leftist types.

One of Pope Benedict XVI’s more intriguing recent episcopal appointments is that of Karl Golser, 65, as the new bishop of the Bolzano-Bressanone diocese in northern Italy. Not only is the diocese a particular favorite of the pope, who has taken his summer vacations there since the late 1960s, but Golser is also a longtime associate of Benedict. He worked under then-Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger in the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in the early 1980s, and stayed in touch with him afterward.
What also makes the Golser nomination striking is that he’s widely considered among the leading eco-theologians on the European Catholic scene, which means that Benedict has chosen to introduce a strong new environmental voice into the episcopacy. On Dec. 9, Golser spoke with NCR by phone from his home in Bressanone about his appointment and the pope’s distinctive approach to environmental questions. Golser will be formally ordained a bishop in early March; between now and then, he said, he’ll finish out the academic term in his capacity as a professor at the local theology faculty.
IT’s ABOUT TIME!👍

Wow.The intellectual capacity of the average dullard never ceases to amaze me.So,in order to emphasize the role of the Catholic in today’s society allow me to shed a little more light on the subject. This is from

The Vatican yesterday added its voice to a rising chorus of warnings from churches around the world that climate change and abuse of the environment is against God’s will, and that the one billion-strong Catholic church must become far greener.
At a Vatican conference on climate change, Pope Benedict urged bishops, scientists and politicians - including UK environment secretary David Miliband - to “respect creation” while “focusing on the needs of sustainable development”.
The Pope’s message follows a series of increasingly strong statements about climate change and the environment, including a warning earlier this year that “disregard for the environment always harms human coexistence, and vice versa”.

There is no reason for nastiness on this subject. Regardless of what you believe regarding “global warming” aka “climate change,” using solar panels at the Vatican is a good thing. We are called to be good stewards of the planet, and their purchase of solar panels does not hurt the economy.

This does not mean I will support carbon credits or any other such nonsensical political ideas, but I do try to do minimize pollution in any form. This is prudent even from a local environmental standpoint (e.g. smog).

The Vatican aims to become the world’s “first carbon neutral state”, and is growing a 37 acre forest in Hungary to offset its annual carbon dioxide emissions.

It has undertaken to use renewable energy for 20 percent of its needs by 2020.

Holy Father’s Christmas Address to the Roman Curia

Which means

As the faith in the Creator is an essential part of the Christian Creed, the Church can not and should not be confined to convey to his people only the message of salvation. It has a responsibility for creation and must rely on this responsibility even in public. And he must defend not only the land, water and air as gifts of creation belong to everyone. It must also protect humans against the destruction of himself. It is necessary that there is something like an ecology of man, understood in the right direction. It is not a metaphysical exceeded, if the Church speaks of the nature of man as man and woman, and calls for the creation of this order is respected. This is in fact of faith in the Creator, given the language of creation, which would be self-contempt and then destruction of the work of God . This is often expressed and understood by the term ‘gender’, is ultimately resolved in the creation of self-empowerment and the Creator. The man wants to be alone and have always and exclusively alone what he is concerned. But living in this way against the truth, lives against the Creator Spirit. Tropical forests deserve, yes, our protection, but no less worthy man as a creature, which is writing a message that does not contradict of our freedom, but his condition. Great theologians have qualified Scolastica marriage, that is the link for life for men and women, as the sacrament of creation, that the Creator has established and that Christ - without changing the message of creation - he received in the history of salvation as the sacrament of the new alliance. It belongs to the announcement that the Church must bear witness to the Creator Spirit in nature as a whole and especially in the nature of man, created in the image of God.Starting from this perspective should be re-read the encyclical Humanae Vitae: the intention of Pope Paul VI was the love of defending against sexuality as consumption, the future against the alleged exclusivity of the present and the nature of man against his handling.

I used a website to translate it because I don’t speak Italian.

My Oh My! Must we resort to name calling? Did you know that an honest presentation of scientific data indicates that for millions of years the planet has experienced a series of warming and cooling cycles, many of which were far more severe than current trends? You think cars are going to destroy the earth?

The earth will be around a long long time after we are gone.

😉

No, it is not just cars, it is cars, factories, cutting down the rainforests, excess of garbage with no place to efficiently store it, excessive amounts of coal being burned in the world, etc. It does not matter if there is scientific data pointing to a certain theory that you like. The growing consensus in the scientific community is that there is a problem with global warming and that this should be a major concern of ours.

“On Feb. 2, 2007, the United Nations scientific panel studying climate change declared that the evidence of a warming trend is “unequivocal,” and that human activity has “very likely” been the driving force in that change over the last 50 years. The last report by the group, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, in 2001, had found that humanity had “likely” played a role.”

I don’t need a scientist to tell me that Global warming is happening, I can see it happening. The more you deny it, the worse the problem is going to be.

You can? (looking out window… :winter: …most snowfall in 58 years!) 😉

The Netherlands are pretty close. I applaud the Pope and Catholic in thier foward thinking on this issue.

Don’t you think that excessive snowfall could be due to environmental problems? It doesn’t just mean warmer weather, it means weather that may be unbalanced as well. Despite the snowfall you received, polar ice caps the size of countries are melting increasing the amount of undrinkable water in the world, causing flooding and huge storms.

Didn’t you see that movie the day after tomorrow? Of course that is an extreme scenario and I am not saying that is the case here but it shows what could happen. It does not mean just warmer weather.
