It was not a misunderstanding…
Its ever so easy for an Evangelical to misunderstand our teachings on purgatory ( and I recognize that purgatory is a difficult tehological topic even for those who are honestly trying to understand)… but it can also be too easy for Catholics here to just throw around short sentences loaded with concepts that they have picked up from some apologetic without doing their own homework of praying and reading Scripture.
Obviously we have some Evangelicals here who do not understand purgatory. The question is: how do we tend to the need of our brother …
The Catholic Church claims to have the fullness of truth. But the truth is nothing without love and compassion. If we are what we claim… the new Jerusalem, then we can not at the same time easily be moved to answer our brothers uncharitably even if he speaks to us with venom…
