Catholics, if you found yourself on an all-Protestant planet, what would your church choice be?

The Presbyterian are american copies of the Dutch Reformed church (yes, in that order). It was the official state church of the Netherlands up till Napoleon. They were the church that held the Synod of Dordt, where the 5 points of Calvinism were decided upon.

Still weird that everytime protestantism is mentioned, people in the non-catholic religions forum get all nasty and worked up. No such thing happens when things about Eastern or Oriental Orthodoxy are posted. That might have been different were there no Reformation šŸ˜›
Thanks for the info! That simplifies things. Google was a bit of a confusing flood of info.

And YES it’s a curious thing the reactions to protestant mention. My next thread will be far more benign. It will simply say ā€œSay something nice about the Protestant church!ā€ hahaa ducks and runs for cover…

As I see it, if the Catholic and Othhodox Church did not exist, then neither would Sacred Tradition, and the writings of scripture would have to be discerned by fallible men, so who knows what books would be circulated? There would be no orthodoxy, and we would try to discern who is God, through writings of all sorts! It would be worse then the Jesus seminar without a codified canon, so I guess I wouldn’t be doing anything more than seeking esoteric knowledge to explain the universe and mankind. I guess I would be some sort of platonic gnostic, subjecting text (what ever they may be) to my own interpretation and authority! If that planet existed! Because without sacred Tradition, there would not be " protestantism" as we see it today 😃 But, since this is a hypothetical, and I gather that the planet is made up of protestant Christianity as we see it today, I guess I would be some sort of ultra-liberal, once saved always saved guy! Why? Because, it just seems easy šŸ˜‰

Why would an all-Protestant planet resemble our planet’s version of various forms of Protestantism? How would Protestant denominations have evolved differently in a world without Catholicism? The papacy could never be in the running for the Antichrist Award, for one thing.

hahahah, good point. If there is no Catholic Church, what are they ā€œprotestingā€ against? 😃

Sounds like 1500’s Europe, doesn’t it? You’re right, this is supposed to be a different planet. Just forget I brought it up. 😊 šŸ˜›

Jon
Hey Jon - No problem…It DOES sound that way…and to answer that proposition, I would choose a denomination that has the fewest ā€œrulesā€ and believes fully in the principle of ā€œprivate interpretationā€ - then I can just believe what I want (which of course if Catholic)ā€¦šŸ‘

Actually as a professed Catholic…be me the only one on the planet…

The Catholic Church would still exist on this Protestant planet, albeit if just one member…like just bringing things closer to home…if one catholic was remaining in Spokane, WA, the Church would still exist.

I would participate in any existing prayer and Bible study, and works of serving the Lord…but for worship, I would probably use my own sources, the MIssalette and Liturgy of the Hours with spiritual communion…and pray for my separated brethren’s disunity…to be in communion with me some day.

Already asked and ignoredā€¦šŸ¤·

Tsk, are you really that confused that you don’t get the question? Come on…

Semantics…

Ok what NON Catholic church would you choose?

(But then one of you hall monitors will come by and say "Yeah but there wouldn’t be ā€œnon Catholicā€ churches if they didn’t know what the Catholic Church was, so you have to use a different adjective entirely… wait I dont think they’d have adjectives on that planet, come to think of it, so use a noun… wait…:whacky: lol)
