i hate to say this, but the same thing could happen in the United States. We are not immune to this.

The religion of peace strikes again.

Where is the outrage from the mainstream media on this?

They’re still spouting the let them build the 9/11 Victory Celebration Mosque and they’ll leave us alone rhetoric.

I just noticed Marie5890 had started a thread previously in the Catholic News forum here at CAF when they had been taken hostage. Other prayers and comments can be viewed here.

They’re not martyrs, this is retaliation for the pastor who threatened to burn the koran:

The guy who wanted to burn the Koran was a Catholic??

No honey.
Seven or eight militants then charged through the front doors of the church, interrupting the evening Mass service. They rushed down the aisle, brandishing their machine guns and spraying the room with bullets.
They ordered the priest to call the Vatican to demand the release of Muslim women who they claimed were being held captive by the Coptic church in Egypt. When the priest said he could not do that, the gunmen shot him and turned their guns on the congregation, killing most of those in the front pew.

Through the prayers of the Mother of God, have mercy on us and save us. :signofcross:

They are now in the Bosom Of Their Lord. May their memory endure. :gopray:

Like Charlotte stated earlier, that is not true.

And even if it WAS true------does that excuse this? Is THAT what you are trying to say?

Come to think of this----what kind of a “Centrist” are you? From most of your posts I’ve seen,. you appear to be solidly in the Left.:confused:

Oh, please.

First of all, the article you cited doesn’t support your claim. It says that the attackers said they were revenging “the burning of the Qurans”, but since the Florida pastor who threatened to do this didn’t actually follow through, your claim doesn’t stand up.

Second, according to your source the Christians were deliberately targeted because of their faith. That would make them martyrs.

Where’s the outrage and denouncement from the Muslim community?
There has been plenty, but the US media doesn’t care to report on it. Instead, we have to scrounge around through the news reports of other countries to see such information.

Jordan condemned the attack:
jordantimes.com/?news=31521

The United Arab Emirates condemns the attack:
wam.org.ae/servlet/Satellite?c=WamLocEnews&cid=1285739389534&p=1135099400124&pagename=WAM%2FWamLocEnews%2FW-T-LEN-FullNews

And I’ve seen a news article which mentioned that Egypt condemned the attack. The US news media is infamously myopic. It cares little about international news unless it affects the US directly, or possibly affect US residents or financial interests. If you want to know what Muslim reactions are to news, you will need to actively search for that information. You likely will not see it on television, because such news doesn’t have a market.

Dale, those aren’t Muslim authorities. Those are pro-western Arab/Turkish governments condemning the attack. There’s a difference.

“The Secretary-General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, strongly condemned the criminal and terrorist act which targeted unarmed civilians who were performing their religious rituals in the Church of Our Lady of Salvation (Sayydat Al-Najat) in Baghdad on 31 October 2010, which killed and wounded a large number of innocent people.”

Well, not only some of the other posts here disagree with the above statement, Father Douglas Al-Bazi a local Chaldean Catholic priest also disagrees :

*…The vast majority of the tens of thousands of victims of Iraq’s violence since 2003 have been Muslim, but the small size of Iraq’s Christian minority and the nature of the attack have sent shock waves throughout the community.
“They kill us not because we are Iraqi but because we are Christian,” says Father Douglas al-Bazi, who has permanent injuries after being kidnapped and tortured four years ago. “It is different if I die by a bomb or in an accident — I will not say that I’m dying because of Christianity but they entered the church and they know inside the church there are only Christians. Our leaders say, 'We ask the Christians to be patient — to have the courage to live together to live hand in hand with the Muslims … Why are we begging? Saying, ‘Please, please,’ for what? To let us survive?”
Father Douglas says his Chaldean Catholic parish in the working class neighborhood of New Baghdad has dwindled from 2,500 families in the 1990s to less than 300. His Muslim neighbors help protect the church, but almost every day, he says, more Christians decide to leave.
“Of course I cannot ask anyone to stay,” he says. "Everyone tells me ‘Father, I am sorry — I will leave.’ I tell them, ‘Don’t be sorry, OK? No one is pushing you to die, what’s the benefit of dying?’ " *

They were and are being martyred.
