Catholics must disregard Scripture to satisfy their doctrine.

It was always known from Scripture that the father, son and holy spirit are one Manny. Show me in Scripture where the Catholic doctrines of the Immaculate Conception and being saved by faith and works are. They don’t exist. Some of the Early Church fathers denied mary as perpetually sinless and they were Roman Catholic? Please…
The only place in which the phrase “Faith Alone” solo Fidei appears (James 2:24):

You see that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone.

We Catholics are not sola scriptura Christians, therefore SIA’s very premise is meaningless. I do not understand why some of you are letting SIA bait you into responding to this thread. By taking her seriously you are giving the impression that her presupposition - that the entire deposit of faith is contained in the Bible therefore we have a reason to defend ourselves against her charges - is correct, when it is not.

Moreover, SIA has hashed out this material time and again and
never accepts any answers given. She proved long ago that she is not here to do anything but bait people into arguments and stir the pot. The ‘ignore’ feature provided by this board is an excellent way to deal with such posters.

ok, here we go again. Show me where in Scripture, it says that a catholic priest has the power to change bread to flesh and wine to blood. Oh yeah I forgot, it doesn’t have to say it anywhere for Catholics to proclaim it as truth. You can just make it up as you go.
No priest has that power. No one is claiming that priests have that power. It is the power of God that effects the change. The priest is the instrument of the process, that is all.

I can surely see that you don’t much care what is Biblical and what isn’t,
What I quoted is Biblical. As is the post you still haven’t responded to.
Protestans say:

Just read the Bible.

The Scriptures say:

"But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation,’ 2 Peter 1:20

“How can I understand unless someone guides me?” Acts 8:31

“There are some things in them hard to understand, which the unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other scriptures.” 2 Peter 3:16.

"Prescribe and teach these things. Let no one look down on your youthfulness, but rather in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity, show yourself an example of those who believe. Until I come, give attention to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation and teaching. Do not neglect the spiritual gift within you, which was bestowed on you through prophetic utterance with the laying on of hands by the presbytery. Take pains with these things; be absorbed in them, so that your progress will be evident to all. Pay close attention to yourself and to your teaching; persevere in these things, for as you do this you will ensure salvation both for yourself and for those who hear you.
" I Timothy 4:
after all, it isn’t the top authority in your church.
God the Word is the top authority of Our Church, His Body.
If the pope declared Jesus a heretic,
You mean the successor of St. Peter in Rome, at the Vatican? Since he doesn’t at present confess the Creed of the One, Holy, Catholic, Apostoic and Orthodox Church (though he’s moving in that direction), what he says is not authoritative to me. But I will say, he obviously has much more right than you do when it comes to what Scripture says.
Catholics would burn their crucifixes.
Would that other you? Do you have a crucifix?

Can the laity be the instrument of the process…or is it just ordained Catholic priests?

Where does the Bible have the table of contents? You know that there was some issue on the canon (for one thing, the Jews have accepted another one).
I know! The Catholic church fell into corruption just after it canonized the bible. But, the bible is OK, since it came out just before everything fall apart. Yeah, that’s it!

Thanks! 👍 And, Catholics have been accused of making things up on this thread? I pray that assertion is simple ignorance of Catholicism that can be overcome.

Christ’s peace.

Jesus told his Apostles at the last supper, “Do this in rembrance of me.” The priests are the Apostles successors. This is done so by the laying on the hand. This is past on from generation to generation and continues on today. This is Apostolic Succession. Actually, I am not making this up. This has been believed for 2,000 yrs. Read the writings of the ECF.
Slight corerction:

The Bishops are the successors of the Apostles, and the gift is given by laying on of hands I Timothy 4:14, 5:22; Acts 20:28.

The bishops delegate the priests in their stead. Titus 1:5.

Continue on.

I am Catholic. You, for some reason, will not disclose your beliefs, except that they sound an awful lot like sola scriptura.

You might as well look over your car and take any parts off that aren’t listed in the owner’s manual, because they are “extra-manualic” and not needed. I’ll bet the engine’s connecting rods are not listed. Dare to throw them away and still claim to have complete car?

Point is, the car (faith) came first and the manual (bible) was written later.
And what good is the manual (Bible) is you don’t have the car (the Church).

Answer a fool as his folly deserves, That he not be wise in his own eyes. Proverbs 26:5.

deal gently with the ignorant and misguided. Hebrews. 5:2

In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth 2 Timothy 2:25.

Just to answer for the Orthodox Catholic Church: no priest is allowed to celebrate Divine Liturgy without the Faithful. Christ said “when two or three are gathered in my name, Lo! I am in the midst of them.”

Yes, I’ve stated a thread on this topic.

Interesting how the protestants are willing to take our word on what is the New Testament-after all we Catholic (Orthodox and otherwise) copies all the manuscripts, how do you know we didn’t change it, as the muslims allege?-but not how to interpret it. On the Old Testament they have taken the word of the Jews on it (that’s how some have ended up as B’nei Noach, Gentiles for Judaism), although the Masoretic text is based on a rejection of Christ, and was compiled centuries (7) after Pentacost.

SIA,
Out of curiousity, can you show me some extra-Biblical references of any early Christians that denied the Real Presence, besides Gnostics, Docetists, and Arians? (I’m throwing those three groups out because even Protestants would deny the bulk of their beliefs about Christianity, such as non-Trinitarianism.)

A paraphrased old Japanese proverb applies to the OP: “The nail that sticks up is pounded down”

Just for giggles, Rolltide, I did a google search for “church fathers that denied the real presence” and only came up with an independent baptist website that stated all the church fathers were heretics…LOL

Catholics Say:

Scripture Says:

Pattern repeated several times.
??? Who said anything about sola scriptura?
You did, see above. You are using Scripture alone (Sola Scriptura translated to English) to “disprove” Catholic beliefs.
I’m saying that your doctrines are anti-Biblical in many instances. Mary being co-redemptrix and such. Sola Scriptura doesn’t apply here. sorry.😦
So you don’t believe it was Mary who was the Ark of the New Covenant, that she was not pregnant with Our Lord and Savior, and that her yes to God (“be it done to me according to Thy Word”) would not classify her as a co-redemptrix?

In order for something to be anti-anything, doesn’t the one entity (Scripture) have to have a stance on the matter at hand in the first place??? You yourself said that there was no mention in Scripture of the Assumption. That cannot be anti-biblical!
