I’ve already hit up my Pastor on church history for several reasons. [SIGN]Within my own local body, there is an unorthodox view of the Trinity that crept in. [/SIGN]Creeds and confessions are so helpful to refute old herseies that enter our churches. Therefore, I have challenged him to consider all of redepmtive history in teaching the flock. Redemptive history goes way beyond the Catholic Church, being revealed in Genesis 3. Personally, I do not see enough continuity between the Old Testament and New Testament in Catholic Theology. Of course that’s my personal opinion. In addition, I encouraged my Pastor to preach on Reformation Day on Sunday, which he plans on doing. I think you wll find that the Reformed Churches are more solid in church history than modern Evangelicals. However, Church History and Sacred Scriptures need to bring us back to Jesus Christ and Him crucified as being the center of our Christian Faith. 🙂 Please remember that the OP link was written by a Catholic, and his work is linked to Catholic Answers. So, it is actually Catholic Answers indirectly telling you to read your Bible more. :juggle:
Adam, I have heard alot of the reformed church’s. And what I have seen, while I find nice, nice ain’t gonna get you into heaven.

Love one another. Thats what they say. And if that was the Only commmandment God gave it would be great. But it isn’t.

Trust me Adam I know 2 preachers personally who are in charge of them. And they are wonderful people. But I also see its like do your own thing. Its like saying I can follow the Pope, You can follow Luther etc. Its not gonna work.

You either obey and accept the teachings of the CC or you don’t. Its not gonna be we want you to be Catholic so we will let you do what you want. We won’t tell you what to do, you do what you want just be Catholic. Its never gonna unite us I am sorry. Never. And the CC will never change.

The bottom line is Authority authority authority. And obey obey obey. You either believe the CC has it or you don’t. If you do you will obey what it teaches because in your heart you know its led by the HS. IF not you can go to any ND Church you want. If you don’t want anyone stepping on your toes, or telling you that you are sinning and you better repent and confess or you arent getting into heaven. Jesus said it, and he meant it.

I have seen these church’s. Everybody gets a star. Well that is not the way it is. If you go to the RCC you are gonna hear the bad and the good. You are going to hear that if you are sinning you soul is in grave danger and if you die in mortal sin you are going to hell. So you better get you soul to confession, repent, quit the sin before its too late. THat is what Jesus said and still is saying.

You are not going to get the answer from your preacher. Because in ND Church’s its up to you. As long as you accept Jesus and love him and be nice and do your best its all cool. Well Adam thats not what Jesus said. You can read scripture and what it says to you is what you should do. It may tell me one thing you another and thats cool. Thats not cool adam. That means there is some kind of denial in my book about the HS. IF the HS tells you one thing, me another something is wrong. And trust me its not the HS.

Your best Catholic apolgetists are ex-Protestant pastors!
I find it hilarious that you keep bringing this up as an argument for Protestantism 2nd Adam. Why do you think they are no longer Protestant?

Honestly, I really believe dear brothers like Scott Hahn let go of Sola Scriptura in error. If I let go of Sola Scriptura as an essential truth, I could easily be Catholic. However, being Catholic or Protestant is not a crucial error from my view. Hence… ECT III on Catholic Answers!

Explore that idea for awhile, unless you mean the Eucharist. 😉
The Eucharist is God Himself, but that’s not the point of this thread. I’m going to jump on the you should start a thread in the apologetics forum bandwagon.

“Catholics neeed to read their Bibles!” - every time I’m in the forum and I see this Title it makes me what to asked the original poster:

“What makes you think Catholics DON"T read the Bible?” I mean come on!?!

I really need to go back to work. Please post all of them again and I will try to answer them later tonight.
I’ll do it, but only because I’m a nice guy.👍

I feel like this is fairly significant to the discussion and would like 2nd to expand upon it. Do you believe there were more than the 27 books of the NT around at this time? Doesn’t it stand to reason that sooner or later a group of people would have to get together to try to figure out which of these documents should be kept and taught out of and which ones should be tossed? You say it is by the grace of God that Christians know that the Bible is the Word of God, but believing the way you do, wouldn’t that information also have to be in the Bible?

Do you know why Scott Hahn himself let go of Sola Scriptura?

Here’s what I would do. I would ask the adminstators on Catholic Answers to remove that Catholic article posted on Catholic Answers about “Catholics need to read their Bibles” if this thread is stumbling you.

So you don’t agree with your own definition of essential truth?

Is Sola Scriptura being an essential truth in the Bible? If it’t not, than it has to be wrong. You’re going to run yourself crazy trying to figure all that out. My advice to you would be stop the insanity and come home. We’ll be waiting like Journey, with open arms.

I believe in remnant theology. Every human being is either united to Adam or the 2nd Adam (Rom 5). All that matters is being a new creation in Christ!

For the Protestant, our greatest means of Grace is the Scriptures. Therefore, we try to mediate on His Word day and night!
This is a very true, but sad fact. Rather than meeting Christ in person through His Body, bible Christians are limited to what they can glean out of the scriptures. I thank God that He brings His word to life in the heart of those who read and pray scripture, but I earnestly pray that my separated brethren may be able to access His Grace also through His One Body, the Church.

Eph 1:17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him,
Eph 1:18 having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints,
Eph 1:19 and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might

Then let go of it already!

No where in the Bible does it list the books of the Bible and say that everything necessary for salvation is found “only in these books” aka “Sola Scriptura”.

Let go of the heresy you were taught “Sola Scriptura” and leap in the richness of Christian Tradition give to us by Christ Himself!

The only person that is stumbling over this is you who is shocked that Christians can stand to read their Bibles more. 🤷

2nd Adam, will you please start your thread about how Protestants don’t study Church history like you contend? Pretty please?

God bless

I heard his testimony tape years ago, but I don’t remember. Scott Hahn was a staunch Calvinist just like me. 😉
If you’re so into reading things written by ex-Protestants, and you feel you have so much in common with Hahn, why don’t you read a little of his stuff?

Well, through the Scriptures… we are being strenghtened in Christ. I guess it would be similar to how you view the Eucharist.
