Actually you are wrong. Acts 9:31:

“h men oun ekklhsia kaq olhV thV ioudaiaV kai galilaiaV kai samareiaV eicen eirhnhn oikodomoumenh kai poreuomenh tw fobw tou kuriou kai th paraklhsei tou agiou pneumatoV eplhquneto”

The red part actually translates to Catholic Church.

ekklhsia kaq olhV thV = Church Catholic… Or Catholic Church.

Wow, such a slap in the face 2nd Adam. Tell me, is being condescending a fruit of Calvinism? How about being a “good” Catholic = growing in righteousness? Or growing in the love of our Lord?

Why do you need to be motivated to read your scriptures 2nd Adam? Are you “struggling” 😃 as a Christian that much that you can’t open a Bible and read it without anyone forcing you to?

Of course not because you have ripped the Scriptures out of the very traditions they were intended to be read in. I would rather “explore the Scriptures” with the successors of the Apostles.

And yet you yourself already have a higher view of tradition then the Scriptures since (and you freely admitted this in another thread) you went to out side sources (tradition) to determine for you what even makes up the “scriptures” in the first place (canon). Does this mean you are struggling with being a “good” Christian?

From another thread:

Sufficient? Was it sufficient to determine the canon of the Bible?.. :nope:

God bless
is that the greek from Acts? Do you have one of those linear bibles? Do they make linear CATHOLIC bibles? I cant find one anywhere.

No, not a bit! Please keep an eye out, because 2nd may get serious about this discussion, and then we can have at it. You will know he is serious when he opens one of these threads over in Apologetics. Until that happens, it is all just a smokescreen. 😉
your right. im leaving him to you. also i see we have someone who is familiar with the greek. this is gonna get good!🙂

I’VE GOT IT! I’VE FIGURED IT OUT! :newidea::newidea::newidea::newidea:

2nd Adam reads Scripture because he was predestined to read it!

Why do Calvanists gravitate to Romans virtually to the exclusion of the rest of scripture?
You can use Romans against their arguements as well…Romans 3 discusses how Paul Freed us from the works of the law, as opposed to just WORKS. They hate that.

Why do Calvanists gravitate to Romans virtually to the exclusion of the rest of scripture?
because that is what protestant do, they pick their pet doctrine and make that their focus, not the whole scripture. then exclude everything that doesnt agree with their pre conceived point of view.

What is a ‘Historic Protestant’?
I asked this question over a week ago, and am still waiting for an answer. It is a new term for me, and I am curious if it is a recent innovation.

It seems that 2nd prefers to trace his “lineage” back to the Apostle Paul, rather than just to Calvin. He maintains that people who have believed in the “true gospel” have always been in the Church. Perhaps this is what it means to be a “historic Protestant?”
No, the main division is about obedience. Catholics are obedient to the Pope and the Church while Protestants are not obedient to the Church, but to their own whims and ideas. As this thread and numerous other ones are proving.
I think from their perspective they are obedient to the Word, by which they understand themselves to be obedient to Christ. However the problem is that they are obedient to their own perceptions of what the Word says, and by extension, their own perception of God. In some cases this is so far disparate from what the Apostles revealed as to be unrecognizeable.
Code:
Also, it is very tiring and trying to play this 'pick apart the Scriptures with a Protestant' game. And it seems like often, very little changes: I mean, I have yet to hear a solid argument that proves to me that I should replace my newfound Catholic faith with someone's brand of Protestantism.
Well, give 2nd a chance! He may present (if he ever gets serious about it) such a cogent interpretation of the scriptures that you will be compelled to turn to “historic Protestantism”. You may learn, when you find out what it is, that it is what you have always wanted! 😉
When Protestants reduce the argument to one of the three sources, Sacred Scripture, then of course they maybe able to ‘win’ the argument since they are setting a boundary that a Catholic cannot agree to or accept. In truth, even Protestants rarely accept this boundary of Sola Scriptura because they invariably to their “tradition” (i.e. Calvin, Luther, etc.).
This is an excellent point. He made it clear that he wants to “take you on” (throwing down the guantlet to Catholics) within the restricted parameters of “historic Protetstantism”.

is that the greek from Acts? Do you have one of those linear bibles? Do they make linear CATHOLIC bibles? I cant find one anywhere.
I must give credit where credit is due. Church Militant showed me this great find in Acts awhile ago. It is from the Greek NT.

God bless you

I don’t understand your post. The Catholic Catechism defines the table of contents of Sacred Scripture.
Yes, the Catholic Church made the table of contents of the New Testament, which is not in the Bible. It is Catholic tradition from the 4th century. I noticed you have avoided addressing this.
The Catholic Church decided which books should be considered Scripture (in the canon) at the Council of Rome in 382 AD. There was no definitive list before that time.
People seem to take the Bible, in a sense, for granted, without being aware of how or by whom it was compiled
The NT was written** by, for, **

and about Catholics. There is nothing in it that is not Catholic. Sacred Scripture reveals and complements the Sacred Tradition. there are no conflicts.
2nd Adam;5851041:
I have to disagree. The Scirptures (OT and NT) were written for
the elect, remnant, Christians, chosen ones. The word Catholic is not even found in the Bible. All Scripture is God-breathed and not just the NT.
The Table of Contents is not found in the Bible. 2nd, you have not addressed the by whom, how and when the Table of Contents came to be.

I have to disagree. The Scirptures (OT and NT) were written for the elect, remnant, Christians, chosen ones.
I don’t think you can demonstrate this extra-biblical tradition anywhere from the Scriptures. The Scriptures themselves contradict this idea.
The word Catholic is not even found in the Bible. All Scripture is God-breathed and not just the NT.
If you check the Gk in Acts 9:31, you will see the earliest appearance of the words “kath holos” used to describe the One Church founded by Christ that is universal.

Of course all scripture is theopneustos. However, the NT was written by, for, and about the One Church founded by Christ, which is Catholic. 😃
Therer is only two divisions in spiritual reality. Each person is either still united to Adam, or has moved from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of light and is united to the 2nd Adam (Christ).
I agree. However, most of Christendom does not know this. Your perception that there are only two divisions does not negate the fact that there are hundreds of thousands.
Predestination is very broad within the Catholic Church. Most Catholcs are very pelagius in thier personal views.
I agree with this statement. It should be noted that the Church herself defeated this heresy in the early centuries, and that these are only personal views. Those espousing them cannot be qualified as heretics, however, because they never learned the Truth about salvation by grace, through faith, as taught by the Church.
Code:
The Apostles woould disagree with you as recorded in the Scriptures. Actually, much of the Catholic faith is not really good news (gospel) when you think about it.
It is not “good news” when you think about it, because your mind is full of misunderstandings. Fortunately, the Catholic Church does not teach what you believe she does, so it is good news to the rest of us. 👍
Of course we understand each other that our definition of the church is mutually exclusive of each other.
This is a false statement.
Actually, the regards to the remnant which goes way beyond Catholic Church members.
This is why it is false. Your definition, while true, is only a small part of the Apostolic Definition of Church. Yours is subsumed into the larger one.
Code:
I think the Catholic Church goes beyond my view of the remnant invisible church, since the Catholic Church includes other non-Christian religions as a way to Heaven such as Islam and Judaism.
This is a false statement also. The Catholic Church teaches that human beings can only be saved by the shed blood of Christ on the cross.
Did you see the thread about the struggling Catholic and the Catholic position on Islam?
No. I avoid threads about Islam.
If a Cathoic believes that the Catholic Church is infallible, to be a good Catholic is simply to believe whatever the Catholc Church claims to be true.
This is another false statement. Are you trying for a record? Have you considered posting your opinions with a qualifyer, such as “it seems to me that”, so that it will not appear that you are deliberately attempting to mislead others, coming across as if your statements are true?
Therefore, there is really no great motivation for Catholics to read their Bibles as exhorted by the Catholic who wrote the paper on the OP.
If what you have postulated were true, which it is not, this does not necessarily follow. The first Christians had no NT at all, but we see that they were very motivated to know the Scriptures.
It’s a modifed form of the dark ages in my view.
I can see your point. Good thing your premises are way off base.
I’ve been to a Catholic Men’s fellowship and saw that dilemma and tension found in Catholic men. One group were acting too Protestant by freely reading their NIV Bibles outside the guidance of the church. The other Catholic group wanted the Catholic Men to be catechized instead of freely reading the Bible.
It is definitely dangerous to read Scripture apart form the Apostolic Teachings. The unstable and the ignorant can twist them, to their own destruction.
Code:
It's the same on this thread since most on here really have no intentions of exploring the Scriptures with me.
We have focused on the foundation for studying scripture. We have rejected your premises as false. However, I will knwo you are serious if you make the invitation over in Sacred Scripture. I will keep an eye out.
Code:
If a Christian has a higher view of Sacred Scripture than Sacred Tradition, then that Chrisitan will always struggle in being a Catholic Christian.
Struggle does not mean one cannot live a successful Christian life.
Code:
That is quite the history of Catholic Christianity... and will always be that way. For me, the Sacred Scriptures is the Word of God; thus authorative and sufficent since God the Holy Spirit illuminates the Scriptures.
Certainly the Sacred Scriptures are indeed the Word of God, are authorative, and are sufficient. Certainly the HS illuminates the Scriptures in the hearts and minds of the faithful. None of these Truths imply that the Scriptures should be separated from the Sacred Tradition that produced them, or from what the HS has already revealed to the Church.

Let’s start discussing core biblical doctrine according to the Scriptures. When was Abraham declared righteous? We can study Romans chapters 3 and 4 as well as James chapter 2.

:yup:🍿:juggle:
I’m game. Post this over in Sacred Scripture.

Why do Calvanists gravitate to Romans virtually to the exclusion of the rest of scripture?
Calvanists are basically “Paulists”. They believe that Paul’s writings are the only place to find what they call “cohesive doctrines regarding salvation”. Any other scripture references are just extraneous. The organized presentation on the doctrine of justification (which they consider salvation) is found only in Paul.

is that the greek from Acts? Do you have one of those linear bibles? Do they make linear CATHOLIC bibles? I cant find one anywhere.
It is transliterated, not so easy to read. Yes, there is a Catholic edition of the RSV that is in Gk. You can find them online. Google RSV and interlinear. The verse says “the church throughout” which is translated “ekklesia kai kath holos”.

Yes, the Catholic Church made the table of contents of the New Testament, which is not in the Bible. It is Catholic tradition from the 4th century. I noticed you have avoided addressing this.

The Table of Contents is not found in the Bible. 2nd, you have not addressed the by whom, how and when the Table of Contents came to be.
It is no wonder 2nd is frustrated that we can’t move on to Calvin’s interpretations of the Holy Writ. We still have not established by what basis 2nd can accept what is in his hands as "Scripture’.

Sorry there Adam but I disagree with you 100%. While I first need to apologize for I have not read any other response’s I never got past what Adam said.

We Catholic’s do not need to learn from eachother when it comes to reading the bible. That is not what we are taught.

If you want to learn how to read and understand the bible LOOK NO FURTHER than the Catholic Church.

If we learn from eachother we are going by the teaching’s of Man not the Holy Spirit. It is forbidden.

Here it is Adam. Fresh off the press over 2000 years ago:D

You then my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus and what you have heard from me before many witnesses entrust to FAITHFUL MEN WHO WILL BE ABLE TO TEACH OTHERS ALSO. 2 Tim 2:1-2

God did not tell us to learn off of eachother.

You will know he is serious when he opens one of these threads over in Apologetics. Until that happens, it is all just a smokescreen. 😉
No kidding. I tried to challenge him to that but he wouldn’t take it.

When you guys are ready to discuss the actual contents of the Bible, please let me know.
I DID.
I answered your question in Post #
182** but you refuse to respond.**

**It doesn’t sureprise me though. Youv’e done the very same thing in other threads when I pinned you to the wall.

I would agree with the original poster of this thread — I see no evidence of revelation in Catholicism and other characteristics known to the true church, yet lacking in Catholicism.

Without bringing in the Book of Mormon, those characteristics relative to the true church of Christ are present in the Bible.

I will never understand the church that claims to have brought the world the Bible does not in read it as I would if I were a active Catholic — I am inactive now and from now on.

THAT is the stuff I love, the little nuggets of info like that…I love it. It refers to THE church as THIS church as in OUR church, as in CATHOLIC. LOVE IT!!!

Is there a link you can give me that leads to a site that has a catholic bible in greek (w. translation?)
