I’VE GOT IT! I’VE FIGURED IT OUT! :newidea::newidea::newidea::newidea:

2nd Adam reads Scripture because he was predestined to read it!
and he is following an apostate like calvin because he was predestinated to do it! and he will be led to the truth of catholicism, because he is predestinated to do it! lol at least i hope that is what happens. he seems like a decent enough guy. but if he were so comfortable in his point of view, he wouldnt be searching so hard to be convinced by the catholic point of view. i think he just needs the right reason to convert. keep working on him, he will be catholic eventually.lol!👍

I would agree with the original poster of this thread — I see no evidence of revelation in Catholicism and other characteristics known to the true church, yet lacking in Catholicism.

Without bringing in the Book of Mormon, those characteristics relative to the true church of Christ are present in the Bible.

I will never understand the church that claims to have brought the world the Bible does not in read it as I would if I were a active Catholic — I am inactive now and from now on.
actually you would be more in agreement with the catholics my friend. even tho you are not catholic you do accept an authority outside of yourself. that would be the quarum of the 12 apostles in the church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints correct? and you would acknowledge you as a member of the latter day saints, you believe you are the one true church correct? and you believe that the marks of the true church are found in the mormon church correct? also you do not believe in the bible only. you have an additional record of scripture. so in a sense you would be closer to the catholic viewpoint than the 2nd adam view point. i guess the point im trying to make is that 2nd adam is an authority unto himself. he accepts no other authority. whereas the mormons and the catholics do. we may not read the bible the same as you, but you also do not go by your own intelect to interperet scripture. therefor you are closer to us than to second adam in that reguard even tho we are worlds apart on doctrine. have to admit i do have a soft spot for mormons. at least you are reaching out to people and trying to live Godly lives in this world. especially liked what your people did down in new orleans after the hurricane. its my understanding that it was your people who were one of the first relief workers down there. God bless my friend.:tiphat:

Why do Calvanists gravitate to Romans virtually to the exclusion of the rest of scripture?
Romans is the book which expounds the gospel more than any other book. If a
Christian is grounded in the book of Romans, he or she will have a solid foundation.

It’s funny that most of the Catholics want to discuss anything but the contents of Scriptures. You can try to avoid the issue of the contents of Scripture by bringing up Calvinism, predestination, Mormonism, etc. I’ve seen this with Mormons when I have tried to discuss Scripture with them on another Religious site. I’ll take a break from all postings that have nothing to do with the actual contents of Scripture. When a Catholic wants to discuss Scripture such as when Abraham was declared righteous, I’m up for it.

yes but you still need to have the whole council of God, which can only be taught by qualified leaders( priest bishops the magisterium) to fully understand the gospel. the only way to be truly grounded and and have a solid foundation is to submit yourself to the authority Christ and his apostles set up. that is the only way to avoid errors in interpretation. it cannot be done by oneself. also what did the people do before the nt was written. they submitted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and the church to become grounded and have a solid foundation.

This is a good example of an extra-biblical tradition.

Actually, that is exactly the issue we have raised that you have refused to engage. What basis do you have for your “contents of the Scriptures”. How can you be sure that the collection of books you use is accurate?

I will know you are serious about this when you post a thread over in Sacred Scripture. You are not really very likely to glean a lot of “Catholic” interaction here on the non-Catholic forum. 😉

Maybe it is true what some have said about you? You are smoke and mirrrors? Are you afraid of the Apologetics section?

Why don’t you just go to the Sacred Scripture part of this website.🙂

i have given you the contents of scripture adam. several times. you have no answere. i gave you word for word what james said. others have gone so far as to give you the original meaning of the greek. we are discussing the contents of scripture. you are the one who keeps bringing up calvin. it is hard for you to kick against the goads. the very thing you accuse the catholics of doing, you yourself are doing. dont get me wrong its a great intellectual exercise but i dont think we are going to get anywhere no matter what anybody offers you. even the original greek will not convince you because it does not fit in with your preconceived ideology.🙂

If you hide your challenge in the area where there are the most non-Catholics, you will not have to make good on the “challenge”?

Starting this thread here, instead of Apologetics doesn’t make any sense either! Don’t all non-Catholic Christians assume that Catholics ought to read their bibles more? 🤷

you are incredible brother:thumbsup: ive never had an instance in all my debates with protestants where their ears were so plugged up, and their selective hearing was turned up so high:D he cant take you on, because if he does and opens his mind, he just might find that your right and he’s wrong. hopefully he does come to that conclusion, it would be wonderful to have him on our side. i used to be just like him. anti catholic to the core. man was i wrong! God bless.

If that’s the case why is there a whole section on this forum devoted to Scriptural Apologetics. Really, I think your statement here can most charitably be described as hyperbole.

I’ve never tried to avoid what Scripture teaches. I’ve tried to understand why so many people can read the same scripture and come to so many different interpretations when left to grapple with it alone.

And I have to say that I know several non-Catholic christians who have devoted bible passages to memory, but that does not seem to help them live Christian lives. They seem more self-righteous than saved to me.

So, if you want to engage in scriptural apologetics, why not go to the Scriptural Apologetics section. You’re certainly welcome there.

Peace,
Robert

Okay, lets discuss prayers for (not to) the dead for example

2 Maccabees 12:46 It is therefore a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead, that they may be loosed from sins.

Acts 9:40 And they all being put forth, Peter, kneeling down, prayed. And turning to the [dead] body, he said: Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes and, seeing Peter, sat up.

Seems to me, prayer for the dead is fine - yet many Protestants I talk to would disagree.

That was a beautiful thing to say:D

Yes I find this the case also. I try to tell them time after time as Catholic’s we do not believe in death any longer that Jesus took that away. 🤷

I have to leave for a few hours. However, this thread is based on a Catholic article on Catholic Answers.
JL: For this reason Luther’s phrase: “faith alone” is true, if it is not opposed to faith in charity, in love. Faith is looking at Christ, entrusting oneself to Christ, being united to Christ, conformed to Christ, to his life. And the form, the life of Christ, is love; hence to believe is to conform to Christ and to enter into his love. So it is that in the Letter to the Galatians in which he primarily developed his teaching on justification St Paul speaks of faith that works through love (cf. Gal 5: 14).

Paul knows that in the twofold love of God and neighbour the whole of the Law is present and carried out. Thus in communion with Christ, in a faith that creates charity, the entire Law is fulfilled.

I agree with what you have shared!

It is transliterated, not so easy to read. Yes, there is a Catholic edition of the RSV that is in Gk. You can find them online. Google RSV and interlinear. The verse says “the church throughout” which is translated “ekklesia kai kath holos”.
Are you saying the Catholic translations like the NAB will use the word Catholic instead of Christian?
